If nobody has any other objections to this, I'll hex it into the full movie tomorrow, and then stop working on this for a month. I have an objection to you stopping to work on this for a month. :)

The fight against ludwig left me utterly speechless. Even though I've watched all the work you have done this far, I'm sure that I'll still watch the finished version, perhaps several times. :) Good luck with the upcoming challenges.

Ok, I hexed the last levels into the full movie, so you can now download the complete movie of the first 60 levels (49 minutes): www.viper7.com/smw/VIPer7-Mario96v5.smv

Heh, the Donut Secret water board has that annoying bumping sound too. :D
I watched the whole movie again, and didn't notice too many ceiling-bumps in Donut Secret 1 (except for the part where I swim below the screen, there it's kinda unavoidable). There were quite a lot of ceiling-bumps in Vanilla Dome 2 though, but I'm not gonna change that now, because it doesn't matter in regards to speed, and changing it now might only lead to desynchs. And as nobody complained about it before, it's not such an issue anyway :P So, that's it for now, I'll try to stay away from the game for the next 4 1/2 weeks :D I will check this board a few times though, so if you have any ideas for improvements or whatever, feel free to post them here

Just watched the run so far. The butterbridge is truly just wonderful. I verymuch enjoyed watching those two stages. Also the Reznors and the 4th castle. Damn fast. Damn entertaining. Just too sad that you are taking a break. But you've earned it somewhat. :)

Butter Bridge and the consequent castle were very beautifully played. I lack good compliments enough, so I'll just thank you for the latest update. :)

I just figured out how to watch smv's and I'm glad I did. It was a wonderful run so far. I was told earlier that a full SMW-run would be too boring and that all courses would be only fly-throughs... that later part is of course true, but I could never imagine the way you do it in. I love it! Can't wait until the rest of it. :)

There's a simple problem solver with the fly-through: Don't fly-through. If you show enough skill to beat levels quickly, effectively, and impressively, people will eventually overlook the fact that you've.. A.) Not used warps to get to the last level, and B.) Didn't use a cape outside of levels that almost absolutely NEED it. I, for one, wouldn't mind watching a full Super Mario World run. I find the one that uses warps to get to the very last level unimpressive. I'd be more impressed to see that someone took the time to go through each individual level to beat it at the fastest time. Not just zip through to the very end. Not to mention, those very last few levels (the ones on the two vertical lines that read 'Groovy' or 'Narly', etc.) would be awesome to see beaten blazingly fast.

I'm guessing you haven't been following this thread. The reason for flying is not because the player is lazy, but because of the fact that flying is the fastest way for mario to move. If you download VIPer7's WIP you'll realize that he is neither lazy nor is his run boring to watch. And star road is complete, so you can see Groovy and Narly being "beaten blazingly fast".

Speaking of which, Viper is due to return in two days and continue working on this run. Let us all pray to the great video game god in the sky that he hasn't forgot, gone missing, is in a coma, got himself a girlfriend or any other such divertion. The only acceptable reason for absence is one's own funeral.

Er, what Rom do you use for recording? I'm trying to play the latest video (from page 25) with SNES9x v1.43 and I get desyncs with all the roms I could find. a31bead4 (US [!]) and 19fbbe83 (Other random rom, probably US as well, maybe with different header) desync on Yoshi's Island 2 with you running into a block after the row of koopas. ec0ddac (Japanese [!]) desyncs somewhere along YI1, ending up with a head first crash with a Rex 346afd89 (European 1.0) and bc54a5a6 (European 1.1 [!]) end with you jumping into the bottom of the first Banzai Bill. =/

You might want to switch to using Snes9x 1.43 WIP 1, instead of final. Should fix desynchs with this and most other snes runs on the site. Edit: Everyone likes links!

OK, the exam was quite hard, I'm not yet sure if I passed it, I'll get the result on Thursday Anyway, I started working on my SMW run again yesterday. First of all had to redo Mondo, because GameCube04 had done this trick in his video where he lifted off on the very first platform. In the end this wasn't such a big timesaver as expected, because running back and forth also cost some time (yes I already could have lifted off at the left end of the platform, but that would have been slower in the end). So, I now finished Mondo 90 frames and 2 timeunits faster. As expected, this caused some desynchs in the following levels, with which I spent several hours to fix... Sometimes it was enough to just enter the level with 1 or 2 frames delay, but in some levels I had to play some passages again. These were: - Outrageous: Mario kept getting hit by the last Piranha Plant, so I had to fly over it. Just before the goal I could perform a cool move, bumping on a Wriggler (I think that's his name), then against the Hammerthrower and then on a bullet, which resulted in a 1UP (I had only gotten 8000 points in this level before) - Donut Secret House b: Several ghosts were in slightly different positions. At the second ghost ring I had to do a duck jump, otherwise Mario wouldn't have fit through the hole without getting hit. But it looks pretty cool now :) I also had to do parts of the fight against Big Boo, I think it's also a bit more exciting now (I'm jumping between the two small ghosts) Strangely, Donut Secret House a didn't desynch at all... - Vanilla Secret 1 a: I had to redo the last part after flying through the koopas, you probably won't notice it unless you watched the old video 20+ times :P - Vanilla Secret 3: Mario kept landing on one stupid dolphin, so I had to redo almost the entire level. But you probably also won't notice this, as it's such a boring level and I even collected the very same amount of coins :) After all, I now enter Forest of Illusions 1 83 frames faster than before, and collected one more 1UP. You can download the video of Mondo-Castle#4 here. Or just download the hexed full video, from start to Castle#4 here (yes, I called it version 6 now) I also started a new video in the Forest of Illusions, you can download the first level here. I'm already afraid of Forest of Illusions 2, that level will require lots of testing, in regards to taking damage or not... (I would prefer if I could finish the whole game without taking any damage...)

Wohoo, Viper is back! :) Watched FoI1, have one question: it looks like you pick up the key as fast as possible, but is it possible to do it without landing on the block afterwards?

Someone on the SDA forum suggested doing YI1 and the yellow switch palace after star road special so you can use the cape in those levels. Are you going to change that, or is there some reason I'm not thinking of that it wouldn't save time?
