or how about missing 1 skulltulla from LoZ OoT? I had all but one, it was in that big room full of rocks. I even went out and bought a new rumble pack so it could help!

I think that Super Mario World is way better than Super Demo World :D , and I'd rather see that people tried to improve SMW, I tried it myself :D : http://savefile.com/files3.php?fid=9412032 (You don't need to download it, don't think it would give you that much (SMW (U).)

I was watching the end of the SDA Super Mario World run last night, and I got to thinking while watching him running around on Yoshi throughout the end. I think seeing a Yoshi Run on all Levels would be fun. It would definately show a lot of skill in the game, of course, I know some parts wouldn't be able to be done with Yoshi, The Castles, Ghost Houses, Some Level Parts, etc. But. Using a Yoshi has some Advantages. Faster Running Speed and Flying Speed come to mind, though Yoshi can't fly as far, unless eating a Blue Shell, or is a Blue Yoshi eating all assortments of shells. It's easy to go through the game with just Mario. It's just something to think about. ;3

You can fly while sitting on Yoshi.

I know you can, I never said you couldn't. I'm just saying, you can't fly as FAR on Yoshi without a Blue Shell, or a Blue Yoshi eating any shell. This would certainly be a skilled run to pull off.

As Yoshi Fan I would like to see such a run. Yoshi is one from my favourite characters.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to fly just as if you didn't sit on Yoshi.

I wouldn't know. I've never been able to pull off a floating Cape trick with Yoshi, so..

I don't think you can pull off a floating cape trick while on Yoshi.

while on yoshi and wearing a cape, what you can do is get running speed, jump really high and then float down.

>I don't think you can pull off a floating cape trick while on Yoshi. You can. There was an example movie in some other SMW thread. Here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2476&start=260 >Using a Yoshi has some Advantages. Faster Running Speed and Flying Speed come to mind ... I don't think this is true, but I will happily be proven wrong.

Yoshi does have Increased running speed. I just watched that movie. It can be done, but it doesn't look like it can be maintained for an extended period of time. From what I saw, it's too hard to keep Yoshi afloat.

I'd like a small run. There's been talk about it at SDA and I've been waiting forever.

I'd like to see a Yoshi run too.

Just to clear up a few things: Yoshi does not run faster than Mario, they run equally fast. Yoshi does not fly faster than Mario, he flies slower (the same speed as running, and the same speed as Mario's spin flying). Yoshi flying with a blue shell is also as fast as running. The flying glitch with Yoshi as demonstrated by hanzou and JXQ lets Yoshi fly as fast as regular flying with Mario, however it's not possible in some levels (I think) and of course takes some time to set up, so I'm not sure how useful it would be. It's possible to remain flying like this and it can be maintained as long as needed. From what I understand you can not perform dives or X-spins without losing time and/or control though. My own thoughts is that a Yoshi run does not really belong on this site. I'm all for concept demos in general but TASing with Yoshi is incredibly boring, from my own experiences. You basically can't perform any tricks what so ever, and everything is slower. Edit: Also, regarding the statement that this would take skill to pull off, unless you're talking about a non-tool assisted run, the opposite is true. When you're riding Yoshi the game becomes much simpler, and most of the time optimizing things you normally can do is no longer possible, so it basically just becomes Yoshi's Island 2 over and over again (hold right and occasionally jump).

In our world, there's not such thing as "too hard". ;) I think the reason that hanzou only flew for a short while with Yoshi was because he was just showing that it could be done. You'll notice that he did fly up and down a couple times.

i'm still not sure wether this run would be *really* interesting. well there *are* published movies here with very interesting variations like "never press the 'run' button" or "use princess only". although you might be able to pull off some cool tricks, if you'd start to say "using yoshi constantly, except for ghost houses, and castles, and boss fights and occasion XY", that particular run would become a bit pointless in my opinion

That 'never press the 'run' button' TAS was actually an April Fools joke. I think doing a Yoshi run qualifies as "uses a sub-optimal character" like the princess-only smb2 run. There still arent many of those...

If memory serves me right, when the princess run was released, it was the fastest SMB2 run around. Unfortunately, I checked back in the archives and I'm having difficulty actually confirming this to be true. It's possible that because the movie was simply released in the earlier days of TAS, when there weren't as many games done more tolerance was given to 'variant' runs.

I recall there being a time when the Princess only run was the fastest SMB2 completion on the site.

wether a suboptimal character qualifies for a speed run wasn't my point (obviously it does, e.g. in SMB 2 japan with luigi).... crux of the matter is that i doubt it will be exciting to focus on a character which isn't available all the time. well, maybe a short demo of any level might change my mind.....i admit i have no real idea yet how a yoshi run could differ greatly from an "ordinary" super mario world TAS.

Hi everyone. Time to revive this topic. I've started a new 96 exit run of SMW, doing a level occasionally when I haven't had anything else to do. I've reached Donut Plains 1, the first crossroad, and what I want to know is if anything new has been thought of in this game. Things I'm interested in mainly include world map route changes and completely new strategies/routes in specific levels. I think I have most of the levels and improvements figured out but I'd like to hear any ideas you have. The plan for now is to follow the same route Viper7 did, except skipping Yoshi's Island 1 and YSP for later and finish Donut Plains 2b and Donut Secret 1b the first time around. Correct? Thanks for your help everybody. Also, please keep in mind that this will not be finished anytime soon, if ever.

Yoshi flight trick in Vanilla Dome 3! You could possibly eliminate Yoshi altogether with savvier flying in that stage, but you'll still need to get him for the wings in Cheese Bridge Area anyway, right?

There is a green block which is in the way when you enter the boss room in one of the castles. I think the green switch can be taken later without adding extra steps on the world map. I'm just repeating what I have read, it's all in this enourmous topic somewhere. With the new running and hopping trick, you don't need to skip YI1 and YSP for later.

hanzou: That's right, Yoshi isn't needed in that stage but because of CBA we want him anyway. Truncated: Flying is faster than hopping. Also, taking the green switch palace later is what I plan to do.
