I don't think flying through levels would be a problem, just stay close to the ground get as many coins and bounce off of as many enemies as possible while flying. Also, I don't like the dragon coin idea, only get them if it doesn't waste any time, but don't go out of your way to get them.

agreed with mfried- I think that flying at ground level if anything would actually be more entertaining(though harder) than running. Perfectly flying in between, under, or onto your targets would look very impressive, as well as being faster than running.

That would really be more of a theme run (i.e. frogsuit or chip carries dale). But I'd certainly watch it. Control would be outrageous. Tubular, even :)

while it's themed, I'd think it's also the fastest way to progress through the game; assuming you avoid all obstacles which would slow you down, it may be just as fast as flying over the whole level no?

flying > running....simple. I can't say that at any point that flying IS slower than running, even if it's a castle, like...I think it's the 2nd castle, or maybe even the third, where there's a part where you go up real far, There's a lot of that I've been able to fly in a real game speed run. So while it might seemed themed, it's the quickest way, by far. Just of course if I did it, I would go as close the ground at all times as possible, i would most certainly use all the different ways of flying, to get as much score as possible, while being real tricky with the actual level obsticales, enemies included! Now one thing remains :: looks at the topic name :: As soon as it's worked out, im doing a 96 exit run! - Volkov

In my unassisted run i got 366 for Donut Plains 1. My total time was still 2.6 seconds short of the WR, but the idea is you go to the upside-down purple pipe and crouch jump off the flying dude into the pipe. Right after entering the pipe you exit and cut off a huge portion of the level. Since I don't make assisted runs, I'll let the current master of the game Volkov utilize this tactic in his next run. PS. w/ assisted run you should be able to fly into the pipe, probably saving 2-3 more timeunits.

You could get 363 with only flying and 369 with the pipe but it would be slower for realtime with the pipe. With collecting the feather of course!

Has anyone tried to do a complete speedrun at the full game yet?

I was thinking about doing it but it's just absurdly time consuming. There are a few levels that are very hard to do w/o dying. I don't really feel there is that much of a demand for it, but if there is a huge demand, i'll get serious about making one and submitting it to SDA.

I think it would be really cool. There isn't a video up of that kind of thing yet, so I think there would be some demand.

When you finish, drthps, I'd like to see the video. And by the way, you still speak English better than I speak French... and I take French in school...

There are also a few levels that have time-dependent endings--to get full completion, you'd have to waste time on some occasions.

I'd love to see a full game run, for SMW. Hell, I'd do it myself, but I lack the PC power to record the input without it desyncing on playback.

I saw one movie of the whole game on zsnes, and of course it was not rerecorded. I lost count at how many times they redid the secret levels you find in the star map because they died. Oh, and before you ask, I don't know where I got it so don't bother asking. It was still an impressive run as there were quite a few tricks done.

Curently I'm working on improving the existing video of SMW. Now I want an opinion, do I fool around to much? Check out the pice below (only course 1) and say what you think. Thanks! http://www.geocities.com/mahabadama/smw.zip There, link's up again and now it goes all the way till after Iggy's castle! Edit: All sorts of ideas and reflections are welcome. I need all the help I can get!

Not bad. Although, it looked like you had some miniscule excess waits on the world map. I'm not sure whether they were as short as possible.

You should verify that your movie beats the existing records. Stop the movie exactly at the moment the rim turns into a smoke cloud at the end of level (use SLOW motion - be really precise about it). Take note of the number of frames your movie now has. Then do the same for the fastest movie (currently Alexis Neuhaus's movie). Compare the lengths (number of frames). If your count is bigger than Alexis's, do it over. :)

I will. And I have to say thanks, I was a bit slow on the world map.

Here is a thought that has been bothering me since the first SMW videos: Is it possible to get a speed boost in the first course by jumping on the right side of the football guy (forgot the name, sorry) at the end? Jumping on either side of it does push you forward/backwards but do you need to slow down or turn left before you jump on it? I definately think this is something that should be tested.

What ever happened to this one? Are you still on it, Volkov?

has anyone seen him on the users browsing the forums list? I don't think he's been around for a long time.

You might be right, I'll look in to it. By the way, anyone know where I can get the .smv file for the existing record? It doesn't seem too exist. And now I have stage two in my pre-view movie. Take a look and say what you think.

What do you mean it does not exist? http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?name=world -> download snes9x movie file (.smv) Works very well for me.
