New Donut Secret House - 43 frames slower! + the best Big Boo fight ever
...which is the reason I checked this smv. And WOW, this was indeed the best Big Boo Fight ever. I almost slept away infront of the screen! :p Also the re-record count is extremely high.

I actually did these files from my current run, and then just hex-edited them into individual files for easier viewing, which is why the re-record count is 0. Fear my real-time skills. !!!!

I liked the fact that they were an even number of frames long and with 0 rerecords. Nice touch, it made them look pretty. Also the boo fight rocked lolz!

hey, jimsfriend... what rom are you using?

What determines if a sprite does or does not show up on a screen? In star world 4 for example, certain koopas locations depend on what koopas you jumped on earlier. Also sometimes the rotating platforms do not appear. I am asking because I was trying Cheese Bridge Area again just to be sure it wasn't possible. I go all the way to the end of the level, then I spin jump on the saws to the left a little and two saws are missing. I don't know what causes this but if I could manipulate the game into making the first gate tape disappear I could get the secret exit. Also when I was TASing DP1, after trying a shell jump at the end sometimes the chuck and lava plant near the gate weren't there. Then I went left and the info block was missing. I would just like to know what causes sprites to disappear so maybe CBA could be manipulated to make the secret exit accesible.

Hey , i heard in speeddemoarchive, jimsfriend wanted to do a small completion of super mario world. he gave the route Jimsfriend: Here goes: Yoshi's Island, no yellow switch Take regular exit out of Donut plains 1 Donut Plains 2: Take one of the hard shell dudes into the pipe leading to the secret area up the pipe so I can get the vine to come out and climb up to the key Beat it again regular. Donut Ghost House-Casle #2 are fine. Vanilla dome 1 regular exit. Vanilla dome 2 both exits (get the red switch palace) Finish vanilla dome, shorter bridge, and castle #4 (i think)... Ludwigs castle FOrest of Illusion 1 FoI2 secret exit Blue switch palace Vanilla dome 1 secret exit Vanilla secret 1 secret exit (placing the spring on the blue switches to jump uber high and get into the pipe) Star road can be done Bowsers castle can be done Ok so i did that today, and here it is: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2154/mario%20small.smv it is about half done, it stops at the blue switch palace. Im tired, ill do the rest tomorow. I didnt work on it too much but, its just to see if the route works. I tryied to still make it a little bit entertaining, maybe jimsfriend can use the same ways as i did

Well... you got quite a lot to improve of it. You are losing you P-speed a dozen of times, you run into walls, quite a lot of tricks you aren't using, I thought it was able to go to the star road at once using lots of tricks like juimping on shells and walls?, why aren't you taking the red switch palace before you beat Vanilla Dome 2? And a lot of things more...

I know, but I could still give some comments :D. But I really thought it wasn't needed to go around and activate so many switches...

There's a much shorter route avaliable, Castle 2 -> Vanilla Dome 1b -> Vanilla Secret 1b -> Star World 2

I know, i have a old topic. but thats all messed up and filled with bad smv's that are very slow. I wanted to start off fresh because I learned many tricks to Super Mario world. I wanted to try a attempt for 11 exit again. From the tricks that someone gave, that if you fly into a door you can maintain flying once you get off. And i think i can pull of about 2-3 seconds faster then the current JXQ's speed run. Here is a smv of Yoshi Island 2. Its very entertaining but im redoing it today, because Skamastag says its 30 frames - 40 frames slower. Also i know the hopping glitch so its much faster. Here it is: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2241/mrz-smw%202.smv [EDIT by Bisqwit: Post moved into the existing SMW threads. Stop creating so many new topics! Existing threads often do just fine.]

mrz, Good luck with that, it'll be difficult as hell, let me tell you. Read and reread the supermariotrickspage lots and lots of times. Pay special attention to the hopping glitch, fadeout lag and memory addresses. You'll need to master it all. Reading the last 20 or so pages in this topic would probably be helpful too since there's been lots of fairly advanced discussion going on. Edit: And yes you can end YI2 36 frames faster than you do. Make sure to always optimize movement on the world map. Frame advance is obviously a must at all times.

It is indeed faster. It can still be improved another 5 frames though, I'm assuming from the title screen/world map (I didn't check). Not sure about original though, wasn't the first half basically exactly what I did in my 96 exit run? Not that I'm blaming you, being original in YI2 is pretty much impossible these days :)

No worries :) Anyway, I should probably let you know you won't be improving JXQ's 11 exit run if you let 5 frames go to waste like this, his run is incredibly well optimized already.
