I just finished my first shot at a TAS of Dizzy the Adventurer. It was the last Dizzy title released for NES and came bundled with the ill-fated Aladdin Deck Enhancer. The run is about 8 1/2 minutes and features some crazy egg acrobatics. If anyone would like to critique it I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance! I recommend uploading it to Microstorage, so people can watch it.

I thought this was pretty good. I haven't played it in a long time, but if you submit this (which I think you should) then be sure to have very good reasons why you left items where you did. It is the only thing that I was unsure of. Good job.

Thanks for the encouragement! I will definitely write lengthy notes about all the various tricks. I'm debating doing another revision first though.

Hold on, I thought The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy was the last NES Dizzy game. I'd like to see a TAS of that game done so badly... Regardless, I'll watch this in a bit. This game was pretty interesting as well.

Dizzy the Adventurer is based on "Dizzy Prince of the Yolkfolk" which was the game before "Fantastic Dizzy". I believe it was ported and released on the NES after. I could be wrong though.

OK, so I'm going to go ahead and revise this as no one seems to think this is a bad candidate so far. The route is solid except for possibly one part where I get the star right before the harp -- it would be slightly faster to get the harp then the star (slightly less back tracking). Other than that I just need to optimize the cloud jumping which is a headache. Here's a dumb question -- should I end the movie after the very last input or after the last input that actually affects gameplay? After kissing daisy there's about 15 seconds of the dialog between dizzy and daisy where you just push A.

You should end input after pressing A the final time to skip the dialog text. Your input has to take the game to its end i.e. the game credits or whatever.

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks. I've started my new run, already saved 10 frames on the first room. Guess I learned a lot while playing through the first time!

Glad to hear of more excitement! I hacked the RAM to monitor dizzy's speed, so it looks a LOT faster now, though I had to start over from the beginning ;)

Are you sure that the use of death was the best idea? Unless, of course, your momentum carries you into the water. I remember that happens in this game. Other than that I saw no problems and there was a good improvement on your previous movie. The concept of this game doesn't make it terribly interesting, so that may bring it down on the workbench. I think this is short enough though and well enough played. I'd vote yes. Unless you have any further improvement ideas you should submit.

Thanks for the feedback again Mukki, glad it looks decent. As far as the boat goes, it is at a different elevation from where Dizzy jumps so he "always" rolls off the end and falls in the water. The third crossing in my movie where Dizzy actually makes it all the way across without slowing at all was somewhat a miracle (at least to my eyes since I know it can't be done...) I could probably spend another 6 weeks improving this and gain a second or two, but as you say it may be deemed "too boring" anyways so I'm leaning towards submitting.

I haven't watched this but I'm a fan of this overlooked series and when I have time I'll definitely look it over. I don't think a 1 or 2 second improvement on a game like this which noone knows or cares about is that important... if you find a faster route, like different items or something, then that's definitely worth redoing for, but other than that I don't think anyone will care about small timesavers in games without the letter 'M' in the title.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.
