I have to wonder whether a run of this game would be accepted. Let's see, the differences: You start off with a Pikachu every time; Every so often, you battle Jessie and James; Trainers and Gym Leaders sometimes have different Pokémon; Many Pokémon can learn new and/or different moves; Some major glitches from Red and Blue were fixed but new ones were created. Well, it wouldn't hurt to try.
Why, oh, why do I even <i>try</i> to understand my own species?

Brock would be pretty bad with Pika, but since the Mew glitch still works, it should be about the same as Red/Blue after Mt. Moon. Although I'm not sure if the poke doll trick works in Yellow, which changes things quite a bit.

A run of this game would probably be something like... -Catch Caterpie/Metapod -Evolve to Butterfree -Use Confusion to beat Brock -Catch Mew (or whoever else) -Follow virtually same path as existing run A run without glitching might be mildly interesting, but then the first accepted Pokemon run here didn't use glitches anyway, so there wouldn't be so much difference between them aside from a few Rocket battles and different strategies elsewhere.

No, a run of the game would involve this: Catch Mankey. Powerlevel it to level 9* before beating Brock. Never use pokémon centres. Use Low Kick to beat Brock. Beat a bunch of trainers, teaching Mankey Bide and using Potions to heal the damage taken, as necessary. Glitch a Gyarados at level 100. Use Gyarados to beat Nugget Bridge, go into grass patch, catch Abra, use teleport, glitchedly teleport to last battle against rival, kill him with Gyarados. I think a time goal around 30 minutes isn't unreasonable, considering the glitch where you teleport to the last battle. Sure, it would be completion with only 1 badge, but like the 16-star Mario TASes, it would be pretty damn cool. * If you luck-manipulate to see nothing but level 5 metapods, it would take about 12 battles and that forced battle. But Mankey does have the PP, and if necessary against come trainers he can use mass amounts of Leer to get OHKOs with Scratch.

Finally, someone is gonna TAS Pokemon Yellow. Why dont you glitch an Abra instead of Gyrados and speed it up by a good amount? (Asuuming it can be done, it could shave off 4 minutes)

How do you perform the teleport-to-last-battle glitch?

Not worth it. You will take much more than 4 minutes trying to beat the final battle with only a level 20-something Mankey.

Let's see here... you need a special of 38 to glitch a Kadabra. The rocket in Cerulean is the first opportunity for that, and you could already have a wild abra by then Glitching and abra is out of the question. It needs 148, even higher than Mewtwo.

Whoa. See, it's been a long time. I'd forgotten the ability to catch Mankey early. Other than that, I wasn't aware of this teleport glitch. If this game is in fact that much glitchier than its predecessors, then I retract my statement and would in fact like to see this done.

So this teleport glitch can't be done on the other two? If that's so then would a glitched run and a non-glitched run both be accepted?

Unfortunately, the Teleport glitch requires Gameshark codes. 2, to be specific: 01002FD4 017619D7 Those codes? 1. Teleport goes wherever you want it to. 2. Teleport goes to Hall of Fame. Sorry for getting your hopes up. Hehe. Please don't kill me. I thought the only gameshark code needed for this was the Abra code, which could be overcome by waltzing all the way over to Cerulean. Again: Please don't kill me.

I found a place almost at the very beginning to trainer-fly glitch in Yellow. This trainer is only in Yellow, and sees you from the maximum distance. He is second last person in Viridian Forest, before the last U-bend: How to use glitch: 1) Play until you reach Pewter. Get Escape Ropes and Pokeballs. 2) Use Pokecenter. 3) Go back to Viridian Forest and use trainer-fly glitch with Escape Rope. 4) Let the guy outside Pewter take you near Brock's gym. 5) Go and trigger a battle with a Pokemon with a special of 7. 6) Use Pikachu's Growl 6 times on that Pokemon. 7) Go back to Viridian Forest. Clear the message "Hi, do you have a Pikachu?". 8) Get L1 Nidoking. 9) Glitch L1 Nidoking to go to L100. P.S. I keep getting "You missed the Pokemon" when trying to catch Nidoking. P.P.S. Not anymore, at least if I damage it with a Pidgey.

That is a pretty nice method. I think that would pretty much obsolete R/B. And you don't need to damage the Nidoking to catch it, I just tested.

Why is step 4 necessary? It's fast movement, but not to a place you want to go just yet.

If you don't trigger a NPC event (trainer battle in Brock's Gym or this), it won't work and everything in Viridian Forest is deactivated (even the trainers in Viridian Forest will not battle).

One more thing that makes this different from R/B.. I believe in yellow, you level more slowly(takes more exp to level). I remember discovering this as a kid, but it was a long time ago so I'm not so sure now. Could someone test it?

It depends on the Pokemon. There are 4 types of level-experience relationships: Fast, Fading, Medium, and Slow. The fastest in the early game is Fading, which Mew and all 3-stage evolution Pokemon except the bugs get. The R/B starters all belong in this category. One difference I noticed in Yellow that is not in R/B is that you cannot Escape Rope from Bill's house or the Pokemon Fan Club. Not sure about Safari Zone. Edit: It is possible to Escape Rope in Safari Zone.

Won't you need to 10)Feed L100 Nidoking a Rare Candy to keep its exp from overflowing? Or does the game not level you down due to Exp loss?

When Nidoking gets to L100, the game permanently sets its Exp to L100 experience (in this case 1059860). So it won't overflow.

I heard that if you use a rare candy on the pokemon, it goes to level 100. (Could be rumor)

Here goes Pokemon Yellow: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4453/0215%20-%20Pok%C3%A9mon%20Yellow%20%28U%29%28RSAT%29.vbm Run goes up to Brock beaten (which is only the beginning of Nidoking's rampage). Pikachu's DVs: 32CC Nidoking's DVs: FBEF You might notice that I am picking up superfluous items. The reason is that I want to jam the inventory to prevent gym leaders from giving me useless TMs and saying how good they are. List of items I plan to pick up (* means required items): 1) potion (viridian forest) 2) pokeball (buy in pewter) 3) bide tm* 4) fossil* 5) nugget* 6) ssticket* 7) dig tm* 8) cut hm* 9) tbolt tm* 10) bike* 11) max ether (after rock tunnel, hidden) 12) pokedoll (buy in celadon) 13) fly hm* 14) elixir (poketower) 15) rare candy* (poketower) 16) pokeflute* 17) escape rope (buy in lavender) 18) cardkey* 19) surf hm* 20) goldteeth/strength hm* Bubblebeam TM is not on the list because I will use it right away. I need to use an item later (probably elixir) to get the Secret Key in the Cinnabar Mansion.

As far as I know, if you use a Rare Candy on a L1 Pokemon, it goes to L2 no matter what its experience is, and its experience is set accordingly. So it doesn't work.

Why do you want a Charmander? Is it something necessary to beat the game? Sorry, I haven't played pokemon Yellow in ages.

Charmander is probably the Cut slave.
