Stop spamming, Robbie (Ridgway). About Nidoking's DVs: Is that even necessary? I mean, I have a feeling you could kill the Elite Four with DVs of 0000.

Well of course, if I teach Thunderbolt. But I want to try to do it without teaching Thunderbolt. The issue is whether I can critical Thrash Blue's Cloyster in the final battle. With an attack DV of B, I was unable to do it. Pokemon Yellow is a GBC game, if anyone is wondering why I chose GBC mode. Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Game_Boy_Color_games#P Edit 2: I meant attack DV of B, not attack of B. :D

Whoops, I forgot about Nugget. Remove Thunder Wave from the above list then. And redo part of the run.

Ooh... Post 666 for FractalFusion... dudududu... Anyway, does that inventory jamming thing work as effectively in Pokémon Red? Seems to me it does, but I've never played Pokémon Yellow.

It should, since you pick up the same items as in this run (or close to it). Other possible items to pick up are the Awakening (Poketower), Take Down TM (Silph Co.), and Double Team (Safari Zone). I'm not going to change it now, but I could have benefited by not taking the Potion in Viridian Forest and taking something else later, since I scroll through less items that way. But then it would lead to questions like "Should I overspend on Pokeballs or Escape Ropes?" because of the same conclusion. Keep in mind that I do not want Escape Ropes on the top, because I switch the Bicycle with the top item. Run is currently in Poketower. Thanks for alerting me to my post count. This post takes me past two thirds of a thousand. :)

I just beat Rival after getting 8 badges, at around 1:22. Now to go through Victory Road, and beat Elite 4 and Rival. As much as I would like it, this run is not going sub-1:30. It's simply not possible. I hope to beat 1:32 though.

Well, of course it's going to be fast with a Level 100 Nidoking. Unless that is a different TAS. ;3

Holy Miltank! You're going as fast as a Deoxys in speed form!
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

Are there any big changes for this, as compared to Pokémon red? I hope not, because then 90 minutes might be doable for a Red TAS.

There are some big changes, and I don't think Red/Blue can improve on this. Also, I underestimated the time, because the final time is 1:35:11 (in-game 1:33).

Watched the run yesterday, and I'm very impressed with it.

I am going to attempt a non-assisted speedrun of this game using the newfound fading experience glitch to get the L100 Nidoking. I did a very informal run-through of the game on a plane with no maps, routes, or strategies at all really, just blazing through with the L100 Nidoking. I ended with a time of 2:11 and the current record is 2:28, but I think I can get sub-2:00 with proper optimization. I am wondering where I should differ from the TAS of this game. What things would and wouldnt be possible to pull off non-assisted? Should I teach Nidoking the same moves as in the TAS or would those moves make it necessary to manipulate max damage toward the end (which I couldnt do)? Also, where would be the best place(s) to pick up all the repels I would need? Also I have some stupid general questions: 1. Does the in-game clock run while the game is saving? What are all the instances (if any) when the in-game clock pauses or doesnt run? 2. What are the differences between repel and max repel? Is it level of Pokemon they are capable of repelling or the time/distance the repelling effect lasts for? 3. What does Rival's Eevee evolve into if you lose the first battle with him? I'm pretty sure (for the TAS at least) letting Eevee kill you with 2 max critical Tackles is faster than killing him with 3 critical Thunderbolts at the beginning, especially if you have to go through all that paralyzed dialogue. If you lose this battle, you regain health afterward and dont black out, so losing on purpose would be beneficial, although it would ruin the "no damage" aspect of the run. Thanks for the help.

The only question I can answer is the one about the eevee's evolution: it depends on how you fare in your first battle against him, and the second battle (the often-missed one near the entrance to indigo plateau). You get a Vaporeon if you lose the first and skip the second, a Flareon if you win one battle, and a Jolteon if you beat him both times.

Max Repel is just Repel that lasts longer. I recommend reading this thread at SDA.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that it's the first pokémon in your party (it was so in R/B, but Yellow could be different I suppose).

True. He's Scottish. He likes haggis. There's going to be a cultural fair at my school, and he says "Will you try haggis if I try beignets?" (I'm lousianian). I say: BEIGNETS ARE GOOD! HAGGIS IS NOT! On-topic again: Well, once again, we have yet another glitch found. The SDA topic is pretty informative. However, I'm not sure what's going on with it, as Primo has been having trouble reproducing it.

I have noticed something by accident. Pikachu while surfing, is faster moving than normal. I know this probably wont make it into the run but, just thought I would point it out.

1. How the fuck do you teach Pikachu Surf? 2. Is it faster than biking?

About the first one, there are several ways to do that: 1. Enter the R-2 Prime Cup's Master Ball division (you have to beat the first three divisions first). Assemble a team that contains a Pikachu that does not yet know Surf. You HAVE to use a Pikachu from your Game Boy game. You cannot unlock Surfing Pikachu using a Rental Pokémon. Do not register your team! Pick it directly from your Game Boy cartridge. You now have to beat the Prime Cup's Master Ball division using a three-Pokémon team that always contains Pikachu. Pikachu has to be in every one of the eight battles. You are not allowed to use any continues. If you do, you won't get Surfing Pikachu. Once you have fulfilled all the above conditions, you are shown an award screen with Pikachu standing on a surfboard. 2. Use the hybrid technique 3. Use a glitch move changer (Has not 3trainerpoke been proven to sometimes do this?) Since I dont think you need the surf badge to work it, maybe?

That involves using Pokémon stadium or an as-yet-undiscovered bug, and it doesn't seem quicker than just using the bike-on-water bug.

maybe make a yellow run without doing sorts of major glitches, maybe a Nuzlocke Challenge. Have your Pokemon's HP down in the red and the level up fanfare doesn't interrupt gameplay. Even catching a Pokemon if yours' HP is in the red doesn't interrupt gameplay. Weaken Mankey while it weakens Pikachu. Buy 3 Poke Balls. You don't need to fight your rival in route 22. Mankey learns Low Kick at Level 9. Use Mankey once you catch it, and keep using it until after Brock. Battle Misty using Pikachu obviously. Then use Pikachu 'til sometime after getting Charmander, After getting Charmander, have Pikachu faint. Catch Abra at route 5/6 to Teleport to Cerulean City's Pokemon Center. Catch a Dugtrio and teach it Cut. Use Dugtrio against Lt. Surge, then use Charmander the rest of the way. Don't evolve Charmander until it learns Flamethrower. Teach Fly to Charizard after it evolves at Level 36. Get TM Earthquake from Silph Co. 10th floor Teach Surf to Squirtle, teach Strength to Mankey? The quiz introduction isn't repeated. Useful moves: Pikachu: Thundershock, Quick Attack Mankey: Scratch, Low Kick, Strength(outside) Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard: Ember/Flamethrower, Slash/Strength(outside)/Earthquake(Charizard), Fire Blast, Fly(Charizard) Abra: Teleport(outside) Dugtrio: Dig, Cut(outside) Squirtle: Surf(outside) Useless moves: Pikachu: Growl, Tail Whip, Thunder Wave - Reason: None Mankey: Leer - Reason: None Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard: Growl, Leer, Rage, Fire Spin - Reason: None Dugtrio: Scratch, Growl - Reason: Use only once Squirtle: Tackle, Tail Whip, Bubble - Reason: Not used in battle
