nullDC now is Open Source. http://code.google.com/p/nulldc/ Maybe some genius of you can make it rerecording. Just a heads-up.

If anyone does happen to take up this task, you should be told that Phantasy Star Online doesn't seem to run properly. Just thought I would mention that in case whoever they are decides to work on getting games emulated properly. xD PSO just randomly crashes at a certain spot when it comes to doing a quest. It's not far in.

I have been in touch with the head dev of nullDC about adding both rerecording and Lua, and he does seem keen to the idea. I just hope it works out soon.

Well, at least with those added the Emulator will be a little better. Hopefully, we can also get someone to work on the compatibility issues. I've always wanted to play PSO, but it always crashes in the same spot. :/

If they are to add re-recording and LUA support, one of the emulator gurus here should probably get involved with the project to make sure the implementation is one which meets the needs of this community. There are a number of games on DC and Naomi hardware which would make for great TASes.

They haven't been able to successfully add savestates yet, so robust rerecording is a far, far way off, unfortunately. I think we will see dolphin and pcsx2 well before nullDC.

I noticed a few days ago that there is a Dreamcast emulator with save states called Demul. I think it's been around for years already though, I just hadn't noticed it, because Chankast and NullDC are considered to be the best (they lack save states). Can be fun to research how luck factors and things work in games, and maybe do some future planning for a TAS, if Dreamcast TASing is possible some day. A Shenmue 2 TAS would probably be like 7 or 8 hours, I think only the movies in the game add up to 5 or 6 hours.

Demul has been putting some serious work in still with Atomiswave/Naomi and Naomi 2/ Dreamcast emulation it seems. The latest build from their site certainly has most titles quite playable and very little graphical defects.
