I have created an unofficial patch for FinalBurn Alpha which adds movie re-recording support plus some other goodies. FBA is a windows-only emulator that runs a good selection of popular arcade games, such as those on cps2 hardware (Street Fighter II) and NeoGeo hardware (Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown). Team FBA is currenly working on an SDL port. A binary is available here (right-click, save-as): http://filespace.org/blip/fba.rar Here are keyboard shortcuts which you might find useful:
  • F3 : reset (this edit made by feitclub 11/6/04)
  • F8/F11 : decrease/increase savestate slot
  • F9/F10 : load/save savestate
  • F1 : fast-forward, or advance a single frame while paused
  • PAUSE : pause the game
  • Shift -/+ : decrease/increase the emulation speed
  • Shift Backspace : toggle frame counter display (when recording or playing back a movie).
Unfortunately, you can't remap any of these (yet), but you can pause the game in order to give yourself plenty of time to issue commands (like loading a savestate). Please note that this is an unofficial and unsupported patch for FBA. Please don't bother the FBA devs with questions or bugs regarding this patch. For more detailed information on the actual source patch itself, follow this link. EDIT: (11/6/04) I just learned about F3=reset, so I added it to the list of important keyboard shortcuts. It's impossible to record a worthwhile movie without beginning with a reset. - feitclub

Can you patch my toaster to support rerecording? :D I mean it's like you can put rerecording into anything. Good job.

Thank you very much. I look forward to trying this. A Metal Slug time attack would be incredible.

so, I can't seem to open any neo-geo games with this thing, though other things seem to work fine. let me know if it isn't ok to discuss this, but it gives me a romset incomplete message, all neo geo games are missing their graphical data apparently. "asia-s3.rom" and "000-lo.lo" are missing according to it, but i've never seen those in any romsets. EDIT: fixed this problem.. yall dont need to know about it probably :)

I'll answer the question for anyone else with this problem. In order to run Neo Geo games you must have a "neogeo.zip" containing key BIOS files. It is usually available alongside any collection of Neo Geo games. No, I can't tell you where to get it, but it is very easy to find.

Just go to a popular search engine (it rhymes with "broogle") and type in the name of the file you are looking for. That's what I mean by easy.

Yeah, but then you have to sift through all the resulting sites that DON'T have the file. (Most of those sites also say things like, "We can't give you the ROM, but we're sure you can find it easily with a search engine, hyahhh hyahhh hyahhh! Can't let the IDSA bust us, hyahhh hyahhh!")

Say, blip, I've got a little problem. When I start "recording input," it doesn't reset the game. This makes a time-attack impossible. Can you help me solve this problem?

AWESOME! You da man blip :D Good you made that for that Emulator and not MAME32k or something, this one requires a much less good computer to run flawless than the others. So I, with my super-modern-high-end 500mhz and 64mb ram computer can too use this :D

Yeah, I guess it should. Maybe someone should do M.E.S.S. which has loads of consoles and others. Then again, You might as well just write a controller plugin for N64 and PSX instead as those are the only ones I want to see (Well, N64 really, but I'm sure someone would say PSX one day or another, which they already have). EDIT: You know this was done in July, just brought up again

By using the - key I was able to bring the speed lower than 100%.

You should read the movie-patch-v2-blip-readme.txt included with the emulator.

of course I read it before posting, I m not that kind of noobs. do you I figured out how to speed up the game by myself ? but I cant use the minus key.. , I cant decrease speed.... the - key just doesn't work... edit : I finally understand : I use an azerty keyboard.... using a qwerty one and changing the language in windows solve the problem.

Here's what the emulator is lacking: *Hotkeys remapping *Record from reset * F8/F11 : decrease/increase savestate slot I really hate this. I prefer the way FCEU is. Btw, when the emu is paused, we can change slots but can't see what is the number. *We can't reset the emu, F3, when paused. *Loading a savestate while recording makes graphics to glitch during 5 seconds. Well, it's doing this in 1944, I am not sure in other games. I thought doing some timeattacks but it's too complicated the way it is.

It also seems that when a movie is over, it automatically pauses it. This means that it will not go on to the credits by itself(at least, not without some help from the encoder).
