If I do Kuwanger before Eagle I'll have to go back to his level again and get the heart container. With the SDA route I can use a charged up shot gun ice to grab the heart container in one pass.

I think its possible to get it without any upgrades actually. FractalFusion did a test run, its probably a few pages back and I'm pretty sure he did that. Good luck.

Okay I found his test run and I watched it. It's probably faster to do Sting after Kuwanger, but it all depends if the time to get the heart container in his level is quicker than fighting Storm Eagle without the proper weapon. Here's what I've been fooling with. It's not optimized but you should get the idea. I don't think it's possible to just use the boomerang to get the heart. I think Fractal tried that anyway.

As an aside, I managed to get stuck in Kuwanger's level: http://www.savefile.com/files/140771 I am right at the branching point of any%/100%, and I will go for any%.

Yes, I tried. Edit: I just watched your heart test movie. Charged Shotgun Ice unfortunately requires the X-Buster upgrade, which requires the helmet upgrade, which is in Storm Eagle's level. :(

Gah, forgot about that. Well I guess it's either find some way to get the heart upgrade with the boomerang (not likely) or follow your test run route.

Fractal Fusion, that was awesome. It didn't look useful :(, but it was really cool. Hope you can find some way to make it save time.

Very nice discovery. I wonder, did you try to wobble as much as possible to get out of the wall? I couldnt tell because of the .avi.

I'm going to start working on the intro stage. Hopefully Vile won't give me too much trouble...

I tried to get out (jumping, dashing, pressing left/right) but it didn't work. The inside of the wall is solid. No ejection occurs.

Just remember that the difference between perfection and my run for the intro is very small. - Jump at the beginning. - Jump at the bottom of the downslope. - Don't charge too early. The horizontal coordinates for the camera is in 7E00B4-7E00B5 (little-endian). Miniboss health is 7E0E?F. The ? can be 8 or C. Intro miniboss health is out of 32.

I'd say the run is good, even though you lost a frame somewhere (compared to my run).

I did? Hmm wonder where.. Edit: I think around frame 1600 I'll experiment some. Edit 2: Alright found it, and I even gained 1 frame on Fractal at this point it seems.

I was thinking about doing MMX 100% if anyone else isn't going to. Mainly for more practice in boss manipulation. My question is should I use the SDA 100% route? That is.. Chill Penguin - > Storm Eagle - > Flame Mammoth - > Spark Mandrill - > Armored Armadillo - > Launch Octopus - > Chill Penguin again - > Boomer Kuwanger - > Sting Cameleon - > Spark Mandrill again - > Armored Armadillo again. I can't see any other route working. Feel free to point out of I'm wrong though, or any other helpful info.
I've actually tried to do a 100% run before but never finished. Here's the route I picked Chill Penguin -> Storm Eagle -> Flame Mammoth -> Boomer Kuwanger -> Spark Mandrill -> Armored Armadillo -> Launch Octopus -> Sting Chameleon -> Chill Penguin again -> Armored Armadillo again. One comment on your video so far: I noticed you fire a missed shot in order to charge the X-buster. You can just charge from the last killing shot from the previous enemy. I should say that I've seen a few TAS attempts (and published runs) of Megaman X that, while fast, are somewhat lacking in entertainment. Yours seems to have more potential in the latter department so I hope you continue to do so. Megaman X has huge potential for entertainment value. For one thing, I personally would have found it more entertaining if you fire the small charged shot high at the first enemy to cause it to skid to explosion and jump over it. You can do so without losing time, I believe. Edit: Oh. It looks like in my previous attempt, I jumped over the first enemy rather than destroyed him. Partially so I could hit the second with a charged blast, but also because it's harder to avoid the first enemy than to destroy him and thus, I think more entertaining. I think I'll redo my test run and see what you think. Probably won't be as fast as yours, but may be just as, if not more fun, I hope.

There are a couple parts in there that cause lag if you charge up too early.

Should I jump at the bottom of this slope? Does it matter how many frames you hold B? I held B for like 4 frames at the start of the intro because thats what Fractal did.

Yes, and hold B for highest and longest jump possible (max airtime). Hopefully luck works out.

3 frames faster than Fractal right after the second Bee Blade. It took me forever to figure out that you need to delay a frame to get the second Bee Blade to shoot missiles. The intro is pretty frustrating.. I'll be glad when I'm finished with it.

Sting Chameleon done. 542 frames saved in the levels so far. Download movie. Another 5 seconds will be saved after Storm Eagle is beaten.

Looks nice, I thought the bommerang that kept spinning after you beat Sting was funny. I'm stuck in the intro stage at that slope. I keep loosing a frame there and I can't figure out why. I know it's only 1 frame, but I want a perfect intro stage. As far as I'm concerned, the rest of the game I'll let a few 1 frame errors slide. Edit: Think I found where that error is...

Hmm. I'm a bit torn on this one. There are a lot of parts that seem like they could be more entertaining (although maybe those are sacrificed for speed) but then other parts were very impressive. I've never, even tool-assisted, been able to dash under those rock monsters in Sting's level, and the boomerang tricks took the cake. I'm tempted to do a MMX run with a strong entertainment emphasis instead of speed. I'm not sure what the point in that would be since it couldn't be tried on the same merits as a time-attack (and hence not publishable?). Maybe as a demonstration?

Speed can be entertaining, but generally sacrificing speed for entertainment is not a good idea. Games that have entertainment that is fastest are the best TAS games, but you should only try to make things entertaining if it will not lose speed, such as in areas (side-scrolling phenemenon) where faster possible advancement is not possible, most notably in bosses. I also find extremely tight maneuvers to be very entertaining, so use frame advance to do things either on the first or last possible frame; also the killing of enemies, especially on a big scale and with no loss in speed looks very entertaining.

haha absolutely brilliantly done parrot12gree! Now I assume Fractalfusion can use that trick in his run.

Nice, I'll use that one in my run when I'm there. (I've been a bit busy, but it'll get done.) Edit: Maybe you could find a way to grab the heart container in Sting Cameleon's stage with the boomerang, and without beating Launch Octopus. I think it's impossible, but maybe you can find a way. :)
