Many a good run has been cancelled on this site, often for little good reason. For example, FractalFusion's record-shattering Pokémon Yellow run. He received 17 yes votes, and 3 meh votes. Yet he cancelled it, due to "bad reception". 85% is not "bad reception". At my school, 85% is the standard for an A+. Here are the quotes from the people who said bad things about the run:
Those 3 people effectively convinced FractalFusion to quit his run? Bah! I, like many other people, was incapable of finding a ROM of Pokémon Yellow, and waited a long time for the AVI file to come out. I was stunned when FractalFusion cancelled his run.
I have no disrespect for an author who makes a video not worthy of publication. However, when an author cancels a run which otherwise would have been published, I get very mad at that author.
Ah, this puts some things into perspective for me.
How do you know Fractal's reasons for canceling a run? And now you're "very mad" at him? Come on, man. This should have just been a PM to him to discuss things and try to get his perspective, rather than an attack on his decision for everyone to see simply because it doesn't reflect the way that you would have handled it. People don't make TASes just so that you can watch them in pretty AVIs. Stop this nonsense.
<Swordless> Go hug a tree, you vegetarian (I bet you really are one)
People who like the game and eager to see any run for it will most likely vote yes regardless of any other factors.
People who like a run and appreciate it in its entirety will definitely vote yes.
People who like a run but know nothing whether it is good technically will likely vote yes.
People who don't really like the run but appreciate the effort most of the time vote yes.
People who don't like the run may abstain from voting.
People who don't know/like the game will most likely not even watch it.
That's why non-yes votes are always more representative than the otherwise, especially when it comes to popular games, since their fame/popularity already tends to initially tilt people's impression towards a positive vote.

Really? Wow...
Some people just don't feel that their runs are being received as well as they had hoped for. That's just a personal preference. I remember someone almost cancelling a submission because it got 2 no votes (this was like 1-2 years ago, though). Some people just don't like the idea that their work isn't being appreciated enough.
Concordantly, I've seen runs with 70+% approval rates with good confidence get rejected because the judge didn't like it. Don't think of the voting system as a clearly defining reason to publish or not.
As I see it, the run belongs to the person. If they don't like it for any reason, or if they want to cancel it for any reason, they have the right to do it. People may not like it, but well, it's their run.
It's not really much, but that's how I feel about it.
I felt it wasn't up to par with site standards.
But if it makes you (Chamale) feel better, I can work on a better version and submit it again, though it's hard to entertain through the whole run.
The line of speed negatively affecting entertainment has already been crossed in Pokemon 1st gen.
See also: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4262. Only one no vote and it is cancelled, though I don't know where the no vote came from.
Chamale, by "school" do you mean secondary school? Or are you really talking about college/university?
...
Fail.
Hardcore fail.
Insert here some wacky analogy about some guy that causes a lot of deaths or other big trouble because he only did 85% of his important job correctly. :p
75%?
I'm actually more interested in the figures for B and C.
My, Chamale was quite imprudent when he used that as an argument. :P
(But then again, it's his typical quality…)
This thread is ridiculous.
I'd like to note that it's common for grade schools to have lower standards for grades like this. Yeah, I know, it was sooo long ago, wasn't it?
Look, I'm in junior high, OK?
Anyway, the point of this wasn't to vent as a particular author or movie. It's just that generally, I think less videos should be cancelled. The judges can decide if a movie is up to tasvideos' standards.

I think that authors have the right to cancel their runs whether you like it or not. If someone feels that their run is not up to site standards, that can only be a good thing. That is, they are of the creed that the site doesn't need to be bogged down with poor quality/boring runs, or that they have seen an error in their submission and have decided to fix that.
If anything, I would like to see more cancellations and less rejections in the submission queue. There comes a point where people should be able to tell when their submission is doomed to rejection and save the judges some effort.
As for the grade thing: everyone is probably more used to the concept of 10% grade incrementation. The fact that what your school considers an A+ is what the average school would consider a solid B makes me wonder how bad you have to do to fail your grade. I mean, the work done at any grade level is determined by the information being learned, so I don't see why a school would give kids a break like that when all they're learning is stuff like Algebra or Geography.
