The 10 minute limit is another reason I think Google Video is a better answer.

taipion, i see you have uploaded a LOT of videos to youtube, but the information you provide is still too vague, if not deceiving: "NES Ninja Gaiden 2 (USA) in 09:30 by Josh Ballard (aka. FunkDOC). classic console games being played extraordinarily, using an emulator as a tool to overcome human limitations such as skill and reflex. - Takes damage to save time - Aims for fastest time - Abuses programming errors in the game - Genre: Platform - Genre: Action" People are probably bypassing the confusing "classic console games being played extraordinarily, using an emulator as a tool to overcome human limitations such as skill and reflex." and understanding the video as if played normally. I think it would be a good idea to change the description, in consideration to the people vieweing the videos. Change it to something like this: "This movie was made using an emulator with savestates and slowdown to allow for super human precision on the controller input. It's meant to show the game pushed to it's limits instead of gaming skills. For more information on tool-assisted emulator videos, please visit the Tasvideos site at http://tasvideos.org/ NES Ninja Gaiden 2 (USA) in 09:30 by Josh Ballard (aka. FunkDOC). - Takes damage to save time - Aims for fastest time - Abuses programming errors in the game - Genre: Platform - Genre: Action"

Maybe you noticed not, but the description is actually a direct copy from the front page of Nesvideos. And maybe you noticed it but it's too easily ignored in your opinion. To which I don't comment.

True i did not notice. I think it's confusing. Especially on the youtube context.

This is Director39 and I have a question about uploading the videos from this site to YouTube. On my account there, I have thought about uploading some videos from this site onto YouTube. Of course, I would label the author(s) of the videos on the video description. I have seen, however, other users who have done this and their accounts have been deleted. My question is, are people who download videos from this site allowed to upload them to YouTube?

They aren't forbidden to do it, just please include all information you can, and use our own AVIs for that. And don't edit the avis. Keep everything in order and it should be fine. Don't forget to link to the especific movie page on this site, because the video may have been obsoleted.

You have to have the permission of the original author of the runs before you can host them. Otherwise, the author can have YouTube remove the video (and in repeated offenses, block YouTube accounts). Honestly, though; why put them up on YouTube? Is it so much of a hassle to come to our site and download the files like everyone else does?

Best of my knowledge, you can as long as you follow these 3 specific rules. 1. Give credit to the author 2. Make clear that the run is a TAS(Tool-assisted) 3. Link to the site (http://tasvideos.org)

I know some people who are too lazy to download codecs and torrent for that purpose...

Frankly, there are runs I'd rather watch without having to download them first. I've got all the codecs/software ready, but downloading can still take a long time.

Given that some torrents take over 2 days to download from here, whereas they download as you watch on Youtube...

Yeah, but YouTube drawns in all the wrong sorts. There's a reason that SDA refers to the worst of the forums as "YouTubers." We have a few of them on our forums, too...

Some people don't like breaking the law. Seriously, there are two ways to watch TASes: Emulation and Roms, which is highly illegal, and BitTorrent, which either implies that you're already doing something highly illegal, or you are about to. I like runs on youtube. I can show them to my friends on their computers, or relax during a break after my classes to watch one.

The legality still bothers people? A 20 year old copyright that is scarcely even enforced? If the developers dont give a shit, why should we?

You know, morals, ethics, those sort of things. Some people have them still.

And clearly, if anyone has morals, they'll be identical to yours, so you are free to throw judgmental jabs at everyone who doesn't agree with you. Just kidding, that's retarded.

Not all people have the same laws that your region does. That being said, emulators and ROMs aren't always expressly illegal in all situations at any time ever. That being said, I'm going to stick to my elitist guns and say that if people really wanted to watch the movies that we produce, they would deal with the emu/ROM or torrent situations. Harumpf.

Eh? BitTorrent implies you're doing something illegal?

Could you describe the weird voodoo magic you use to watch a movie without having to download it? ;) The illusion of "faster download" in youtube comes from the fact that the files are about 1/10th the size and 1/100th the quality. My personal main objection against posting videos to youtube is the loss in quality. A rather good amount of work is put in each video in order to get a high-quality image. All this is poured down the drain when someone makes a crappy conversion to wmv and posts the video to youtube.

Well, that's just the price you pay for speed. Sometimes I'm willing to pay it!

The illusion comes from pipelining downloading and watching at the same time. Pipelining is the same voodoo magic that makes AMD Opterons "faster processors" than Intel 386s from 1990.

Eh? BitTorrent implies you're doing something illegal? Yep, which is why I never use BitTorrent as long as I'm on a university connection. Torrent activity is completely blocked on some other campuses as well.

thats more likely to be because it eats the uni's upload bandwidth.
