Old desktop? Looks new to me. Why, did you really test-drive Windows 7 for a bit and then go back to a more stable Windows?

Yeah, pretty much. Still have it installed though. I have XP, Vista and Win 7 on the same computer :P.

It’s not right… not right… not right… ...I'm h...a...p...p...y... (this is for demonstration purposes only; I am NOT keeping this since I want to be able to sleep at night; wallpaper image here if you're crazy)
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

*Prays for Ferret Warlord's desktop* --- Anyhoo, little known fact around here: I am a huge Disgaea fan. Here is your proof: http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h59/rickcressen/laharl_desktop.jpg If you also noticed that I have a couple of pics of the Scout from the first game, congrats! Reason being: I'm getting together a Scout costume for Halloween/Anime Cons. Yes, I love cosplay. Feel free to haze at your leisure now.

I had a wallpaper I made from high resolution images of Laharl and Etna, but it looks like it's neither online nor on my laptop, anymore. Instead, this is the closest thing I have to it. Never did finish. :p

May I ask all the people who have their desktop full of shortcuts and files: What's the point? I find it hard to believe that you would need all of those programs and files on a daily basis and constantly (so that it would justify having a shortcut right there in the desktop). Wouldn't it be better and handier to distribute program shortcuts and files hierarchically inside folders and subfolders? If you need a program once of twice a week (or even once a day), it's IMO not such a big burden to navigate to the folder where it's located. Also if the folder hierarchy is logical, you will know where to look for a specific item even after months of not using it. The advantage is, of course, that as new programs and files are added during the years, the user interface is kept clean and tidy, rather than more and more cluttered as time passes.

IMO, it's a serious nuisance. You might need a given app once a week, but how many different apps do you need on a given day? You have to navigate to all of them individually. I used the hierarchical approach for a long time, but gradually became dissatisfied, and convinced that there were better ways to do it. My solutions- which evolved into just using a CLI and hotkeys- never included putting icons on my desktop, but I can easily see how that would be a good combination of simplicity and effectiveness for most users who don't really care so much about this sort of thing. I preferred a sidebar over the desktop. Just drop a folder of shortcuts onto an edge of the screen and set it to "list" view. It's like a hybrid desktop/start menu.

yah I'm worse then most but I like it this way. I you want some neat tree structure use the start menu. I put stuff on the desktop that I want to be able to find with out searching for it. I also use it as a download folder. I save things there that I want to get around to looking at.

My approach (in OSX) to this problem is threefold: * Shove about thirty icons onto the dock (which is set to auto-hide, minimum default zoom, maximum zoom near the mouse). * Make use of the "recent items" menu, which is a bit like a subsection of the Windows Start menu except that it's sensibly sorted, has more items, and is in its own submenu. * Have a terminal open all the time. Between the three of those, I hardly ever need to dip into the actual file browser to run applications.

The point is that sometimes I forget to uncheck the create desktop shortcut thing with installers. Also, sometimes I'm too lazy to search for a free folder and just save something to the desktop. The point is lazyness and hardly caring about what's on your desktop.

It's my DESKTOP... it's where I work. It's pretty much like my room.

I have an "unused desktop icons" folder on my desktop. Where all my desktop icons go to die. I don't give a shit how messy that gets, and it's easy enough to use too.

No. Having Sephiroth in the picture automatically raises the estrogen quotient.

You don't consider Sephiroth manly? I think in the Japanese culture manliness is measured slightly differently than here...

His sword is over 13 feet long! As a side note, his shoe size is twice as big as Bozo's.

The difference, dudes, is that Sephiroth is a player.
