I don't know why it seems like the interest in this died down after the last release, which looks like it will make for much better TASes than any of the previous ones. Maybe it's because people like me never post... well here are some S1MMCD times I got a few weeks ago for the most straightforward category, Sonic with no emeralds. Has anyone gotten better (or tried TASing this at all)? SSZ1: 0:23:20 SSZ2: 0:21:65 SSZ3: 0:54:80 DFZ1: 0:23:05 DFZ2: 0:31:35 DFZ3: 0:49:96 COZ1: 0:23:10
I'm trying but even with sonic the best I can get on the first level is 29ish >_> (I'm horrible at this...with Knux I'm getting 35 =/)....mind posting a gmv of those times?

Oh, right, here's the gmv. Obviously SSZ3 needs to be redone, at the very least, if 54'56 is possible, but I haven't looked at it yet since then. Also (edit: not anymore, see my post below), I doubt the validity of the video that Aitamen posted above, because Knuckles seems to retain full speed when he starts gliding whereas he's supposed to always slow down (to 1024). Well, I hope I'm proven wrong because it would be pretty cool if Knuckles can really do that.

The character abilities have been edited for megamix. Knuckles is supposed to be able to retain speed when starting a glide.

Then there must be some trick I can't find to making Knuckles do that. Is it a special button combination? Do I have to unlock something first? EDIT: I found what the trick is. All of the preferences have to be set to their default values. Changing anything like "Super Sonic Music" or "Camera Style" or "Boss Time Text" will make Knuckles drastically slower. Now that I've deleted my SRAM and refrained from changing any preferences, it's easy to get times like 9:19 in GHZ2. (Normally I would disable the boss text to make the bosses appear faster, but due to this bug that can't be done when using Knuckles.)

first zone is very nicely done (I was still using the route from v3, did not see that I could use that red spring right after you get the speed shoes). the gmv actually desynch'd for me at the first loop in SSZ act 2 =/ I don't know if I'm playing it with the wrong options (just using defaults, clear SRAM, etc. with Gens 10a).

Hmm... Sound has to be enabled in Gens or else it will desync there. It seems related to the PCM audio. For now, always keep the sound enabled (use the volume control instead if you want to mute it).

ah, well I didn't have my sound disabled but the PCM option wasn't checked in the menu, turning it on solved it. very nice zipping on DFZ X_X I'm probably not gonna be able to match those times.

Oh crap, I forgot about that bug. It's embarassing that we couldn't get such a simple bug fixed for the final release, but so it goes, I guess.

I'm trying that recording with a clear SRAM but not having any luck, it desyncs immediately.

1: Make sure you're running the right game (it's called "S1MMU.iso") 2: Make sure you're using Gens10a or later. (and you don't have to do SRAM or BRAM clearing tricks anymore) 3: Make sure you're using the v1.10 US BIOS file. (sorry, I forgot about this, adding now for completeness)

1. Wasn't previously, is now, still having this issue. 2. Definitely Gens10a, no BRAM, with and without the PerfectCD Synchro. Is it perhaps my SegaCD Bios? Accordnig to the bootup screen it's Ver 2.0.0 ? You stop holding start @ 125 frames then start holding again at 132. On my Gens, BIOS does not recognize input until 143, meaning that it would possibly need pushing 11 frames forwards. I tried this with TAS Movie Editor (with ALOT of messing around) and it desyncs right away. I have no idea whats going on. I really do believe its the bios. Edit: Yes. It was my BIOS file. Version 1.1.0 is used for your recording. Nitsuja how difficult would it be for you to provide level layouts? I began working on this myself with debug, layers switched, and manual screen-printing but god it took half an hour just for the first 10-ish seconds of the level.

Finally got round to watching your run Nitsuja and... wow. Seriously, wow o_O I'm looking forward to the rest of the run. Are you gonna do speed runs with all characters over time? Could be an interesting challenge for you, as they all have different abilities.

Work on Megamix has resumed (see http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=14121) so if you ARE gonna keep at it, nitsuja, I'd suggest you wait for the next release due to some of the bugs in 4.0b.

The next release will probably not come in a long time. You know what I mean if you read Stealth's post:
There will be no further demos, or even "private" beta-tests. Fact is, Megamix was supposed to end development with "version 4" (at a later point in time), until this mess happened. There is no way we can possibly make another non-final release and keep it substantially fresh. Trust me - you'll thank us when you have much more to play with all at once than one level at the end of the game and a couple of menu text changes
I just noticed a discussion about savestates getting disabled. Will this effect TASing of this game?

It's 100% impossible, so it won't affect TASing and it won't effect TASing either.

Some guy who has nothing to do with the project mentioned it as a joke, and people responded in "I read it on the internet, so it must be true" mode.

Well, I saw your WIP nitsuja, and I gotta say...It kicks ass like always. I hope if the final version ever comes out, that there is a proper TAS like this one to go with it. :)

Crramalama’s run with Mighty Link to video (see also other 2 parts, the last one is the most impressive) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt52xDQFP3E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZkFzbFI4yQ (sorry, don’t know where is the gmv) As about nitsuja’s run — it looks great, but I would prefer to see it done with any other character (sonic is my unfavorite one, sorry for that). But it’s very nice to see so much zipping through walls anyway, not depending on character used. Loved your spindashing to music at ~10200.

Watching it, it was alright. But it also seems that not alot of route-planning went into this, as my own WIP demonstrates some path choices he could've easily taken and saved alot more time on some of the stages, Dark Fortress act 3 in particular.

Found your old Mighty WIP @ youtube (and subscribed your channel), but disappointed with video quality. Could I have the gmv? Just for ability to watch the run in better quality. Of course, only if it syncs fine on current Megamix version…

It syncs on Megamix v3 from a blank SRM. And you can I suppose, I have stopped working on it but theres nothing stopping me going back. I do apologize for the poor quality of the video, and I really should re-upload it sometime. If I ever do get around to it though, I would probably do V4 but that is pending release (if it happens, not to sound negative, but it is an IF) and released maps so that I can plan routes.

KA-BUMP! I did a short TAS of Sonic Megamix, I'm aiming Shadow Story, and would like to know if what I did is optimal. Link to video

Without the GMV, I can only say if it’s good or bad, by TASing it myself. So, please give me some time to make my own attempt on it. :)

Okay, I’ve just made a quick TAS of the first act, and my time is ATtiny 23.13, which is still a bit slower than emu2000’s result. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1958712735/test-run.gmv
