Right... I do find it interesting that the text on the panel kept getting translated even before it was implemented to appear.

So let's say you're the artist. You've just drawn new text for a bunch of panels, and there's this Cannon one right next to the others. Why wouldn't it make sense do quickly sketch some translated text for that panel?

That's what I thought. I just wonder if in the French translation, somebody who had played the game a lot and had access to the code looked at the artwork and said, "Now what's this one for?"

Wait, so you don't even get the Cannon status when you are in a cannon?

I wasn't able to reproduce the Warp glitch. (See youtube comments) edit: turns out this is the result of taking a savestate from one version (english) and loading it in another (japanese). So no legitimate glitch there, sadly...

IIRC, no, you do not. The tile still shows whatever power you currently have while in a cannon.

Here's a brief TAS of the Quick Draw Bonus Game, where I amuse you and show off a little visual glitch.

This is my first attempt at a TASVideo. This isn't a speed run, but I did this for entertainment. I just was feedback of what I currently have. I have a hastened Kirby with sword using the glitch that permanently uses powers throughout game that heads to end of each stage demolishing anything in the way. Again the purpose is for entertainment, any criticisms is welcome. Uses version Kirby's Adventure (U) (PRG 1) [!]: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/426127919/KirbysSword.fm2.gz

I wasn't expecting much, but this really surprised me. Obviously the problem is that it isn't complete and ends a bit abruptly, but otherwise, this is a quality run. Very entertaining, but that's not a label to use over not knowing how to TAS effectively, because you did everything quickly aside from time sacrifices for entertainment. I wouldn't go around expecting this to get published or anything, but full game, entertaining runs are rare so I really enjoyed watching this. A few things I want to point out though: Can the clock bosses not be hit during their alarm attack? The 2-4 fight against Meta-Knight looked a bit sloppy and was the only really subpar part of the run. The mega-bounce in 4-4 was neat. These are the kinds of things I like in entertaining runs, since you can't normally see them in the speedy TASes. The 4-6 UFO switch looked excellent and not slow at all. This was a really nice treat. I really look forward to seeing what you come up with down the road. Are you planning to do any TASes with the purpose of finishing as quick as possible, or do you think you'll only be doing entertaining runs? Regardless, I'd love to see more. 9/10

I also took a look. Nice (mostly) sword run. Might be due to me watching this late at night, but just sword only and not aiming for fastest time seems a bit boring after a while. Good job though.

There is an extra game mode which gives you a challenge (it appears after you get 100% completion) You can always discard an ability by pressing select and then suck up another enemy and take that ability. Anyway, I would like to see a 100% run of the game.

Thanks for the feedback people. I should mention the only reason I switched to UFO was to blitz through the Cloud boss, other wise I'd have to float all the way up to the area which would take for ever, as well as trying to fight the Cloud with the sword is just not entertaining at all. The Clock miniboss cannot be attacked with sword while it's sounding its alarm because I can't get close enough to connect with a hit without being hit myself. I doubt I'll do actual speed runs because my favorite games that I'd enjoy have already been completed by someone already, not to mention the steps and effort for exact precision seems a bit daunting to me. For sure though I'll do more runs focusing on just entertainment on other games. Not sure what yet, but I'll start looking at other games when I'm done with Kirby.

Seems like it wasn't even mostly a sword run, but an air-attack sword run. It's a novel concept, especially since the sword attack in the air has a dreadfully low range, half the time when I play I don't even use it because I tend to get hit so often. I like interesting concepts for fun games, but the actual run itself was mostly boring. It really is a very long game.

I probably went in watching this having too high expectations, given the positive feedback. You described the movie quite well, so it's not your fault... but I ended up being disappointed. Maybe the reason for this however is that the idea of for a TAS like this isn't new. I realized that doing everything with UFO or WHEEL fails to show off one of the most entertaining (imo) parts of the game. Since the SWORD and MAGIC ROD are required to beat the game anyway, I figured I'd do a run using only those powerups, in order to show off this aspect of the game, and still have consistent goals. You can read the response to it in the linked thread... but looking at the WIP I posted in that thread (this is an fm2 version btw, in the thread it's fcm... also PRG0), I think a full optimized TAS with these restrictions would be very nice.

It appears most people would like to see more optimization. I'll have to research on ways to be more precise with my actions in games I do. Here's my first amateur movie. Again the goal was just entertainment by having Kirby slice through anything in his way with sword. It's about 50 minutes long so fast forward through the ends of stages and maybe have a quick lunch while viewing.[/url]

A standing slice isn't ever used. Can that hit the clock? (I haven't tested. I'm guessing not.) There might be a couple places it could be used without losing time as well. I don't like the UFO switch. I also don't know why you killed the sword in the following level, just to get a mix seconds later for a sword?

I experienced weapon corruption on a NES. I don't know if this can be useful in a run, and I'm not certain how to reproduce (or if it was just a cart glitch or something) I took a video after the fact if anyone wants to look at it.

That's when you get hit at the same time when you get rid of your current ability, I think. It is a well known glitch and already made use of in the currently published TAS. To my knowledge, this happens when you pause the game at the same time you get rid of your ability (pressing start+select at the same frame). It's pretty useless and already known.

I can use the hex editor to make my ability starrod anywhere, shown here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk6fSoclKyg&feature=channel_video_title If I played through the whole game like this, would it be accepted?

No it wouldn't be, because you're altering memory directly. But it could still make for an interesting youtube video.
