Being upset/ridiculing/making fun of/etc people's english when they're from a non-english speaking country is such an incredible dick move it pretty much automatically makes me hate the person in question. You could almost say it's the #1 way to make me go ballistic.

Forgive me for not knowing (or caring). I just see that word butchered so #%(*ing many times during a day (by people of any first language, including English) that I tend to snap when I see it. If you can learn the rest of the language, don't foul up one of the more common words. Blarghgehg.

Loozer! We were obviously talking about loosening frames. Because they were too tight. Yeah.

This response makes me wonder if you're even for real. A much, much better response would have been: "You're right, I didn't consider the fact that he was not from an english speaking country, my bad."

Guys, cut it out. Let's get back to the topic. Because we all know what happens to topics when they get off-topic. *sigh*

Hey Xkeeper, have a cup of shut the fuck up. Until you can fluently write Dutch, AND the moment we are on a linguistic forum, THEN you may bitch about spelling errors. Until that moment please crawl back under your rock and stay there. The nerve of some people... And don't you dare claiming to speak "Deutsch", thats German.

What's so bad about correcting someone's spelling? It's not a personal insult, it's just pointing something out for future reference. (And for all I can tell, Xkeeper was just joking about being really angry; it's not as if emotions come through very well in text.) Anyway... what sort of runs are being done again? Fastest time is probably the tornado-heavy one, so what are the goals of the hammer-using one? "Fastest time without using Tornado"? Or is that one being scrapped in favor of a no-powers run? (Hmm, what about not using Mix as a limitation, if there needs to be one?)

You get tornado rather fast so that wont change much. I'm just saying, there _needs_ to be a pure tas speedrun. And in my oppinion it will not be boring. No more boring then any other game would be if you actually played it on the real console. Then next there may have to be a nekkid run, because I believe Kirby can go anywhere (at least the sky's not the limit ;) Although I remember you need the hammer in the ship (world 7)? But that may just be to get to the secret (and to 100%), I can't remember. I proposed Throw to make certain fights slightly faster but not change anything else, but my memory of that skill was wrong and I'd like to revert that (not sure how I made that mistake). So a pure speedrun, anything goes (=tornado spamming), and a naked run, no skills except when required by the game. Of course there's also the 100% run, if anyone dares to :p I'm not quite sure whether the effort for a walking run will be worth the result though. It's quite hard with the walking, running, sliding, and walking. Frame by frame that is. Anyways, thats my proposal :p

Very glad to hear this TAS is being worked on again :) I'll follow the progress closely ;) I think aiming for fastest time possible with no restraints is the most obvious choice. It's pretty hard to find another really obvious goal. Showing all weapons would be nice to watch, but wouldn't be suitable for the site. A 100% run will look too much like the any% run. I tried getting people to like the "only weapons kirby holds in his hands"-idea, but I have to agree that it's too far-fetched. The only run, besides any% run, would be a no-weapon run. (Using only sword at the sixth level boss, and cancelling it at the end of the fight). Edit: JXQ, I was about to mention the getting-the-weapon-faster movie I made, but you already found it :)

The 100% run forces you to use the hammer at least twice, stone at least once if my memory serves me well. I think there are more areas where you need to use a certain weapon (but by far all of them). Thing is though, the pure run will take ... 40 mins? 35? And the 100% will be MUCH longer. It'd be nice for all those people that didn't get the 100% when they played the game though ;) (I actually called the nintendo hotline to get the last secret which was evilishly hidden in the black sky on top of a real exit).

So I went to clean up my FCM (by removing the savestate that is automatically put there even on a reset-based movie, but supposed to be ignored) and it desyncs. Sigh. I figure this is a good excuse to start over and put in a couple improvements I know now, and also to make sure it's from a brand new absolutely clean wiped SRAM. This particular game must use battery back-up data in a different way than most. Either that, or I haven't dealt with any battery back-up games yet for NES. I also have a lot of other things I need to attend to, so I'm putting this project on hold. However, it's still my first TAS priority. Hopefully I can get back to this soon.

Yeah I encountered that as well. At some point it just started to save the progress, even when recording "from start". Reseting or Power didn't change this. I'm wondering whether it's a FCEU bug or, like you said, something to do with the way kirby saves. It's dangerous either way, now you have to check your movie every time, which is very annoying. I'll be looking forward to it, like so many others here :) Bag: you heard to man, take over and get on it! :p

I have a movie of the first world here, using a completely different approach.

Hmz... I'm not sure if picking up tornado, if you only want to use it in level 1-1 is really faster than staying normal... I'm also wondering why you didn't use the same mix which got you tornado the first time, to get UFO the second time. Also: It's still slower than JXQ's version... you should really watch it closely.

Good point about using the mix for ufo. Redoing...

A new better versionhere. This one uses a different stratagy to keep the UFO power, with involves being hit by an enemy at the same frame that you drop your power with select. This gets rid of needlessly replaying level one to get the UFO.

Your inital mix for tornado is faster than any I've seen so far. I think that this may be a competitive strategy (versus tornado) if the same place is used to mix for UFO after the first level is finished. Edit: Posted before I saw your last post. Watching new progress now.

Okay, this is over 200 frames faster than my World 1 WIP. Personally I think this strategy would make the run fun to watch, and it completely changes the way the game it TASed. Your progress is much improved, but still has room for further improvement. It's important to only use the weapons you need to use in order to reduce lag. So killing enemies should probably be tested more thoroughly. And you should probably avoid the weakest UFO shot (the beam) whenever possible as it's the weakest, and tends to cause the most lag. Also, your mixing in your previous example was much better than your latest example.

Wow, great job on finding that Kirbymuncher! Your movie now is actually faster than JXQ's wip. I still think you must spend more time on perfecting it though... every time you use the beam attack, the game lags. I would suggest using laser more often, since it doesn't seem to lag (you know what lag is, right?). It's not about making a TAS as fast as possible, you can take your time on trying to perfect it.

The mixing at the start always takes me forever, and I can never get it the same twice.

You could re-record from your initial mix and just take UFO instead, and continue from there.

Lol, so stupid that you found the fastest strategy to this game so far ;)
