If you are asking, I would vote on max rings.
As it turns out, it is impossible to collect all rings: there are 5 places with sets of rings in the same horizontal position, and while in 4 of these places it is possible -- though just barely -- to get all rings, there is one place where there are 3 sets of rings with the same horizontal location. It would be hard, if not impossible, to collect the 3 sets if there were no obstacles, but there are 2 large asteroids to dodge in the midst. So I went with as few rings as possible. The stage ends within 3 frames of losing the last ring; last hit is at 1:31::51, timer stops at 1:35::54. I would post the WIP, but Microstorage is down at the moment.

Since this is a valid question, though one completely lacking in knowledge of the game, I will answer it anyway. The answer is nope, that doesn't help at all: while spindashing, I can't JUMP from the bouncy platform like I do in the run because each press of the jump button charges the spindash further. The time "lost" by not charging the spindash on the bouncy platform (all 7 frames of it) is more than compensated by not having to bounce several times to reach the ledge (at least 2 seconds).

New WIP, improving several levels. The levels improved include: Carnival Night 1 and 2 (new times are 0:41::24 and 0:42::53), IceCap 2 (0:41::18), Mushroom Hill 2 (0:58::54), Sandopolis 2 (1:02::47), Death Egg 2 (2:08::46) and Doomsday (1:34::58) zones.

For the benefit of lazy people, I have created an encode of this run. With Marzo's permission, I'd like to post it up on Youtube.

Go ahead. I am still scrubbing for improvements, though, so things may change.

I would have to ask; 1) Do you plan on doing HD uploading? 2) Can your YouTube handle more than 10 minutes or would you have to do it in segments? 3) Would you skip any video content? (I.E Special Stages)

1: Tentatively no, unless it would make a higher-quality video.* 2: Currently, it's split up by levels. Mushroom Hill might need to be split up into acts, as it's nearly 12 minutes long, due to... 3: No, nothing's skipped, cut, or glossed over... mostly because I didn't think to cut the Special Stages out of the original AVI, and Nitsuja's script skips past some (comparatively) normal gameplay. Of course, if you'd prefer the "boring" bits cut, I can re-encode. :P *Also, if there's a guide anywhere for making good-quality Youtube uploads, that'd be nice... whether any certain resolution or codec seems to work best, etc.

New WIP. Levels changed are Hidrocity 2 (down to 0:58::42; finally found the right combination to skip Knuckles more efficiently), Marble Garden 2 (reduced by 1 frame, but I have no clue how or why -- changing Hidrocity 2 did that), Launch Base 1(1:36::41, more efficient shortcut), Launch Base 2 (desynched due to changes in Launch Base 1, re-playing it reduced 3 frames), Flying Battery 1 (1:20::42, new shortcut), Flying Battery 2 (1:16::47, improved zip at start, improved skipping of Robotnik), Doomsday (desynched due to above changes, reduced by 6 frames). Note that, for Doomsday, I am using the time when the timer stops -- not the time of last hit.

And Youtube'd. Incidentally, if anyone knows of an upload site which allows for 500 MB files, I've got an AVI with the HUD and "skip boring parts" scripts enabled.

I can host it, but what codec is used to reach such a large size? Can it be a little smaller?

Have you compressed the audio at all? The only reason I can think an encode with a competent codec would be so big is because of the fact it's using PCM audio.

Okay, after re-encoding, it's down to 230 MB. Still slightly too large for Rapidshare, but somewhat more manageable, now. :P Also: Fixed the Doomsday video. Should actually, y'know, work now. :P

I believe Viddler fits the bill.

Viddler seems to have the unfortunate side-effect of only showing every 5th frame or thereabouts, making it a very stuttery video.

Unless I'm mistaken, I can see an improvement to the Sonic And Tails Low% Run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrRLzXdz6L8 At 0:17 it shows how to clear Launch Base Act 1 in 0:44. It doesn't use the elevator bug but it uses the 2P Tails and off camera abuse to the ground spikes underneath the giant Cylinder. Another advantage to this strat is that Tails will be with Sonic (and can be controlled) right before the Act 1 Boss fight. I didn't discover this glitch, I was interested with the huge bug and glitch collection from ORKAL's Youtube channel and thought it would be good to post it here.

Yes, I already spliced the improvement. I will re-do it because I noticed the version of Carnival Night 2 that I spliced is suboptimal, but that exact video you linked to was linked in this post. I found it out pretty much the same way as you did, BTW.

Strictly speaking, you are jumping the gun; I still think that there may be improvements here and there (though I don't anticipate them being much dramatic).

Seeing as you have learnt all of this stuff, would it be rude to ask you to just do a full-glitch run? I'd love to see what you mean by "Just how abusive Super/Hyper Sonic is" . I would love to see just how much you can zip through the game with him.

I would say a full-glitch Hypersonic run should start from SRAM to enable Hypersonic for the whole game. I would pay money to see that. I'd also pay money for a concept run using debug mode and never jumping unless absolutely necessary, instead using the "reverse gravity" button to maneuver.

In that case, why don't you go ahead and submit? It looks plenty optimized, and if you DO find further improvements, you can always cancel and resubmit or ask for a file replacement.
