When you go off the left end of the level and reappear on the right. Your position is represented as an unsigned integer, which means that when it's supposed to go negative it instead goes massively positive.

To marzojr: Is it possible to optimize the place where the airship drops bombs? For example to appear as far right as possible at the moment when the scene loopback ends?

A TAS of a no-rings run would probably not be as impressive as it sounds, as essentially you'd have a TAS of regular levels only with slower paths when rings are in the way. The impressive thing about no-rings is the risk involved and the challenge of avoiding them, both of which are completely trivialized in a TAS. I'm not sure how you don't just end up with a slightly slower version of existing runs. I welcome someone to do one and prove me wrong, though.

A lot of imagination is needed to complete a no-ring run. Few months ago, I did a S2K no-ring test run (that would have been impossible without Felipe, Marzojr and Mike89), I can't even imagine how hard a S3K run would be. Knuckles is a good choice for such runs (maybe Tails in S3/S&K) seeing as he has some tools to use to avoid rings that make it more interesting. I wonder if Sonic could be done as impressively... it seems like you'd either be forced to use zipping glitches or have levels that are simply unbeatable. At any rate, that is pretty cool use of the game physics and momentum. I stand corrected.

Wow, I never even realized that my and Razor's runs would be discussed in such place oO that's an honour to us! By the way, Knuckles' no-rings run would be impossible, since he has three unavoidable rings in Sky Sanctuary. And btw, we just finished all the S3&K levels with no rings. Our goal was to not to get any rings at all and use as little help from Tails and glitches/zips as possible. Because it's really interesting to think through the ways to actually bypass the rings in a beautiful and entertaining kind of way. I think our Lava Reef Act 1 run would be a good example. But if one was really to make a complete TAS of ringless run, then it would be quite easy to do with both Sonic and Tails.

I was talking about Sonic and Knuckles section of S3&K, it's kind of clear since I mentioned Sky Sanctuary. Once you get there you are automatically brought up in a scripted cutscene into three vertically positioned rings. There's no way escaping that because it's only after the cutscene that you are given control of the character. Zenon, are you going to try doing this with Knux, wherever it's possible? His gameplay is very different of Sonic's, it'd be cool to watch!

I guess not, since overall Knux's gameplay makes it a lot easier, I think. There're always those wallclimbing and gliding abilities and shields' effects are different. IMHO it'll be boring to think through.
