Next-gen.biz did a nice write up on speed running. SDA Got the most attention, but this site got quite a bit too, and got a slightly outside perspective on what both sites do: http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6957&Itemid=2

NESvideos plays host to a hack of NES MegaMans 3 to 6, all played at once on a four-way splitscreen and completed using a single input
Hack? I thought the run was done using the legit, un-hacked dumps... this is misleading

Maybe they mean the four-game set-up was hacked together, y'know? A hacked-up four-way emulator thing?

Glitches found through computer input are the TAS equivalent of sequence breaking, but can go for years without their applications being realized – one trick in MegaMan was rejected by TAS runners because it killed MegaMan. But late in 2006 those same players realized that using this trick at one point could ultimately benefit a run attempt, and ten seconds was shaved off the previous best. And that’s a previous best achieved, at the very least, through a frame-by-frame input. At one remove, this might seem a dangerous level of obsession: but it’s exactly the dedication required to make games betray their creators. Favorite quote right here.

the mockball, which has a faster running speed; the waterball, which is used to fall through water more quickly; the kagoball, which allows you to morph through platforms.
None of this is even true. Mochball is rolling with speed equal to running speed. Waterball is to keep your horizontal speed in water without the Gravity Suit. Kagoball allows you to morph though enemies not blocks.

Meh. The text wasn't very coherent and I don't think TASing was explained in enough detail. I have a hard time believing that anyone from outside the community would get a good, complete picture about TASing on the basis of that article.

Yeah, journalists seem so smart until they write about something you know about, right? Then you see all the errors.
