I recently saw Derek Kisman's (aka Snapdragon) Donkey Kong Country video, in which he beat the game with 101% completion in 50 minutes with no deaths, and also his Donkey Kong Country 2 video, in which he beat the game with 102% completion in 1 hour 33 minutes with 1 death (though it didn't look like the enemy should have hit him). Both were done without saving the game at all. He blasts through each level with amazing speed and accuracy, and very rarely messes up. This guy has awesome skills, and must also have a really good memory to be able to remember exactly what movements to make over such a long time period. These are probably the most impressive video game achievements I've ever seen, so if you haven't seen them yet, I strongly recommend that you see them soon. Even though each one is a few hundred MB it's definitely worth the wait. Edit: Oops, I forgot to post the site where you can download these videos from. Here it is: http://planetquake.com/sda/other/other.html

By the way, I forgot to say this before, but to avoid any confusion, when I said 50 minutes for DKC and 1 hour 33 minutes for DKC2, those are according to the timers in the games. The actual times are higher.

just viewed it; very nicely done. Worth the long time it took for the download. A difficult task completed with strong determination.

I'm actually downloading the DKC one right now. With a 56k. -_- Almost takes as much determination as beating the game. Almost.

After you see the video I think you'll take that back. That guys skills are insane. He so good that for awhile it looked a little like he was using save states even though it was on a a real SNES.

100% agreed. I watched the video yesterday, and well...what can I say? Just incredible. Now I'll have to download the DKC2 video. :D

Agree that they are very impressive. Saw them for some weeks ago. But I Think Red Scarlet's Speed run to Super Metroid to SNES wasin't so bad either. In fact I sat and gape open-mouthed with surprise for which pathways he was choosing. :) Things and powerups that you cant take unless you have a BIG luck and a LOT of practice. If you have you played the game you know that I mean :) But practice makes perfect runs to :P

Smokey's run was very good, and i saw several mistakes he made. If he perfects his last run, it will be even faster than this one.

Red Scarlet has beaten Smokey's 0:58 record by 3 minutes achieving a time of 0:55. Smokey improved his old record by doing the run 2 minutes faster landing on a total time of 0:56. http://samus.co.uk/

As a kid I read in a game magazine that if you managed to beat DKC under 1 hour and without dying old Grandpa Kong would surf!!
nope, nothing happens! The only way to change the ending is to get 101%, after which Cranky will give you a different comment at the end. No surfing at all though...

I think he does go waterskiing in the full ending of DKC3 though.

I don't do speed runs here, but after watching the 101% run I couldn't help but notice a few wasted seconds. In Bouncy Bonanza, you do not need to go into the room that has Winky. I played through the game and ignored that room, and I still got 101%. Just to let you folks know.

Gee, that almost sounds embarrasing. There's at least 1 "room" in the game that doesn't count (the one with bouncing mincers in Manic Mincers), but it never occurred to me that this could be another such room.

Haha! Never mention new stuff unless you intend to make a new run out of it. ;) Nah. Just kidding. This is great information! I do not inted to make a run at this game either, just to let you know. Just wasting a couple of seconds to comment on this thing.

New run? >_< I dunno... 1-2 seconds worth of improvement (because there's loading times at both ends of the room) on a 40 minute doesn't sound like enough motivation. I'm not like some of the guys who redo a whole run to improve 1 frame =D

Traditionally, a new dkc run is worked on if it can mark a change on the final in-game time units. For that to happen, something around 30 seconds worth of improvements is needed.
