That was really cool! It's too bad it only works on that one boss in the entire game! I tested all of the bosses which include the Cossack and Wily stage bosses and the Robot Masters. None of them work. Still it is a cool way to bypass that long energy fill for that boss.

But is that rain skipping technique faster? Sure it skips the energy refill, but it that is offset by switching weapons twice.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

It only works on him because he's the only boss that takes damage from Rain Flush and the fights against the Robot Masters don't work because they take too long to fall onto the ground. If it were the case or there is a way where they can get hit Rain Flush would be excellent to lead with against Drill Man (so then he takes only 9 Dive and not 10), Bright Man (and then he'd take only 8 Pharaoh Shots and not 10), Pharaoh Man (so he'd only take 9 Pharaoh Shots and not 10) and possibly Skull Man (shield breaking). However that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm going to look into seeing if it's possible to use Rain Flush to cause a long enough delay so that it could work, but it looks slim. Anyway, against the Wily Boss 2, it still takes the same number of Ring Boomerangs, but switching to Rain Flush, using it during the intro of the fight (this part shouldn't cost many frames, since you wait anyway), and switching to Ring Boomerang seems like it may be faster. It takes about 250 frames for the boss HP start-up, but switching to a weapon and going out takes about 80 frames each. I'm pretty sure "Rain Skipping" is quicker. Would you mind testing it to give an answer out of curiosity? I'm going to take a stab at it and say it saves about 50 frames.

Here is the boss fight! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1609874477/GlitchMan-Mega%20Man%204%20%28U%29-stage0Drainflush.fm2 I have to say that it did save quite a bit of time (almost 2 seconds worth in fact)! :D You know what? I think that this run is becoming mostly about cutting the long wait sequences because there are quite a bit of them (Ring Man's minibosses, the Cossack Stage 2 boss, and the Wily Stage 3 boss just to name a few) not to mention the screen transitions, the boss filling up its energy, and entering/exiting a stage.

How to skip the whales in Dive Man's stage. I don't think this will be viable since Bright Stopper is used throughout the level, but nonetheless. EDIT: Apparently this is already known.

The rain skipping technique is very good find. :) RainFlush RushCoil->HiJump->SwitchArm->Attack Balloon->Sliding->Jump->SwitchArm->Attack These extend the action time. :)

Bosses don't appear until Mega Man lands on solid ground and becomes immobile (and thus can't use Rain Flush), so that wouldn't work. Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzscgxz8Hho

When Rush Marine runs out, Dive Man appears instantly. Can Mega Man be controlled at this time before he lands?

After Rush Marine runs out Mega Man loses control as Dive Man appears. This also happens when switching weapons.

http://www.yuko2ch.net/rockman/mm4rj_to_drill.avi Such a pattern is also possible. Because RushCoil is just used the boss ahead, which is fast will have to be measured.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/61686548/MegaMan4-7.fm2 It is sample that uses a RushCoil and a DrillBomb. If RushJet is used in this part, this pattern may not be selected. ;)

finalfighter. Does that work on Cossack and Dr. Wily too? I have a feeling that it might work on them.

Oh, I just thought of something! Since I'll be using Dust Crusher against Cossack I had originally planned to somehow pickup a big weapon refill somewhere in Wily Stage 1 to refill 10 bars of weapon energy for Dust Crusher to use against the Giant Met. I have a new strategy: use Ring Boomerang against the Giant Met since you can get more than one hit-in for any enemy/boss with just one Ring Boomerang. That way I won't have to worry about getting a weapon refill for Dust Crusher or Ring Boomerang.

The US version has a PRG0 and a PRG1. What is the difference between the two?

Actually, it is in GoodNES. Maybe you don't have the latest version of GoodNES (3.14)?. The latest version can be found at http://www.allgoodthings.us/mambo/

Good NEWS!!! I am going to work on Mega Man 4!! I will start by finding zipping glitches with the balloon so that I won't have to switch to Rush Jet and waste 36 frames for the little Rush animation. I will try to find floor and ceiling zipping glitches!!!
