That has been done in the TAS, at the very least in the Area K miniboss fight. (It doesn't work on bosses due to invincibility after being hit by the same move) @edit2: I don't see how that is any faster than just dashing as soon as you regain control.

isn't the dash's speed progressive? I mean, you don't instantly hit top speed when dashing (I think?) so keeping it while going through the door would be faster

No, you do gain top speed instantly when dashing. I'm pretty sure that applied to all of the Zero and ZX games.

I hoped I had found a time saver :( edit: tested on emulator and it's actually even slower, with an airdash you can't open the door, you have to move to the door's direction and your speed drops to walking speed which makes you lose a few frames edit2: this is super weird, you don't actually retain top speed, you just retain the shadow trail without having a boost O_o but if you walk it disappears edit3: correction: it's possible to open the door with an airdash, and it makes it ultimately equal to ground dash, but you need perfect Y subpixel position which is somewhere between 747 and 748 (for a normally placed door, some are higher I think) and to think I got that on DS first try… lol shadows glitch vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4e3sFkORsI

RNG: 02108B90 I think that’s it… it changes at every frame O_o btw the resources page should be updated with the addresses here’s a sequence of drops edit: from the small helmet guys 0–2 big health 3–11 small health 12–45 nothing 46–48 big energy 49–57 small energy 58–61 big money 62–70 small money loop Edit: It doesn’t truly loop, but it has only minimal 1-item variations (and life ups). Also, it starts at -1 (4 big health). A true loop happens after 80 of the above-documented loops with their slight changes. Edit2: True loop happens at 5698, first one is −1 to 5697. RNG % 5699 = x, x = whichever item it matches in the first loop. Edit3: This is still not a true loop… The drop is actually determined like this: advance RNG 2 steps, look at the 3rd byte, check that 3rd byte against the drop table (0x84 is Life Up in “table A”). where’s the 1up? edit: flamethrower reploids have a different drop list(?) 0-11 small health 12-35 nothing 36-51 small energy 52-66 small money loop Edit: Likewise as above, but starts even earlier. Has no life ups. this is 1up from the first drop list 1683597101 also 501745596

Hi! This might have been covered already, or there might be a really obvious reason that I'm missing, but: After accepting "Find the survivors" (Lurerre mission), why does the tas go left through B-2 -> B-1 to get to B-3, instead of teleporting to A-2 and go right+up into B-1 -> B-3, which seems a lot faster? Sorry if it's a dumb question :/

Hmm, good point actually. I'm not sure if we tested that at the time, or if it's just an oversight on our part. It may well be the latter, as looking at the maps, it does seem faster.

What's the deal with the ingame timer btw? It seems fairly close to real time, does someone know what it doesn't count?

Yeah, the ingame counter doesn't count during lag frames. Lag constitutes mostly room transitions (a handful of frames every time the screen fades in/out), and anime cutscenes, which play at 24FPS and thereby slow the game timer down to 2/5th for the cutscene's duration. Other than that, it runs constantly. EDIT: Also, going to announce here that me and Rolanmen1 are starting on a new Mega Man ZX TAS. The old run could use some more polish, and make use of some improvements like the small route change to B-3 and using Vent instead of Aile (to save on dialogue/cutscene time).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPvlNbznUNE At 24:40 in the current TAS, I think time was lost. I’m watching http://www.twitch.tv/ikkisoad stream his first random TAS attempt, and he did something that I think was faster. He started the up-dash far earlier, and clipped against the roof, which pushed him outward next to the wall, which allowed him to walljump. He didn’t kill the enemy, but jumped above it and did the whole thing in a single jump. There are probably other wallclips like that in the game which I think would save time. Something to keep in mind. Edit: I’ve seen from another guy a strategy for the boss at 9:00 that could give a 3-cycles. Basically you need to get the red orb at the top, and you can shoot it in such a way that the boss gets hit by both the box thing and a rotating red pellet from your charged buster shot. I was also thinking maybe you can get 2 boxes to hit the boss if you get them at the correct height and they hit on the same frame, but I have no idea.

So, like Alaktorn said i was working(rushing) a ZX TAS that I finished today and im very happy with the result and the fun time i had with it, since it is my first TAS attempt. DSM Movie DeSmuME 0.9.10 Twitch VOD Yeah, that's kind of a lazy TAS, the energy farming was bad in some places, boss fights were bad and I missed some DASHES (1, max 3 i think). As anyone can notice I used RTA strats for the majority of the run, because im more familiar with them and the TAS strats for quick kills and some sections are incredible hard. If someone have a critique about my TAS i'll be glad to read. *sorry for englando*

Well, okay, here it is, the masterpiece we all dreamed with. If anyone here knows Flameberger you know why the Zero 1 best times are so optmized. He is learning Zx at the time and is revealing things so fast! lol 3 cycle airplane is possible, behold the mythical 3 cycle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxx0r-9dWew

Nice. But now that’s gonna be hell to optimize for a TAS if the top box is required.

So… how did that go?
It went nowhere. I ran into big luck manipulation hurdles at the intro boss fight, got disinterested as a result, and didn't hold contact with Rolanmen1 for long. Though it's at least nice to see there are some more improvements being found now. It gives a (potential) new run more of a purpose to be made.

What? I thought the intro boss fight was already maxed out? Can it do a better pattern…?

Absolutely.

Hello, there's also this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPied7PDUpo I don't know for certain if it would be faster in TAS, but I timed it to be nearly a second faster than switching to and from X in RTA.

Damn that might actually be faster. Hard to tell. I was thinking, can those extra red orb hits be done against the intro boss too? Moth I’m interested in a new TAS of this, do you have a file of the intro with the male character? What were the RNG problems?

No, All 3 projectiles in the full charge shot have the same combo value, so as long as at least one of them hits that's the best you can do.

47 frames faster actually.

RNG changes frame by frame and reset when entering a sub-area, for example, entering Area A-2 from Area A-1. Shooting Wall can change the RNG as well.

If I understand correctly, any event that has random elements will affect it. In my RTA strats I shoot the snake with a lemon (which gets randomly deflected up or down) to get a better pattern. Sometimes the options for how you can manipulate it are a bit limited.
