I'm looking for a good joypad that is well suited for playing SNES and other retro games via emulator. I took the obvious approach of getting a super smartjoy but I found there was an annoying amount of lag between pressing buttons and inputs actually being registered. Can anyone reccomend me a good lag-free alternative? Modding SNES controllers is out of the question unless they can be hooked up by USB as my laptop has very few fancy inputs. Thanks

I've been using a Logitech Rublepad for about 2 years now, and it works great. Overall, I think Logitech makes good gamepads, so you could look around for one of those.

I also recommend spending the few extra $ that logitech usually costs over noname. I got 2 noname brand ps2 style controllers which both broke down in less than a year, the logitech is still going strong on it's 3rd.

I use simple USB adaptor for using a psone analog controller, and it's perfect, except for the controller's own design problems.

I'd recommend a good USB-adapter (Pelican's is wonderful) and a Dual shock, personally. The Dual shock got enough buttons to work with for emulators (such as having save state on R2 and load state on L2), and I just like the controller. Here's a thread on another forum about it which might help.

All console->pc pad adapters add a few frames of lag, I've tried a few and a simple google search brings up lots of fighter game forum threads with people having the same problem.

I dunno if there's such thing where you live, but here you buy some cheap USB PSX-controllers clones. They work just fine, but I still use original oldschool SNES contollers on the oldschool LPT port. The PSX analogs SUCK. I"d rather find an Adaptoid and use an N64 controller.

Hey Zombie, nice to see you around here. Your Terranigma speedrun on SDA is great btw. :-) Regarding your problem, I actually use a Super Smartjoy for more than 3 years now, and it works great without any lag at all. There is no better solution to play SNES games with a real SNES pad on your computer. I'm sure the lag problem is caused by your computer or it's system, not the adapter itself. If you can't fix that somehow, I too strongly recommend alternatives from Logitech. Their products are known to be of high quality and have a long duration time to use, so it's definitely worth the few more bucks to pay for it.
