Ok, I've had this error with mupen64 when a window will randomly pop up and says- Access violation- while processing graphics data an exception occured you may need to restart the emulator. Regardless of how many times I restart it or what-not, it will have that message pop up constatnly. I use jabos 1.6 for video if that makes a difference.

I've also had to deal with this error. I don't have a perfect solution but just clicking OK until it goes away indefinitely seems to be all you can do. What I'd suggest is trying another plugin. One that seems to work pretty well is Rice's plugin.

I would also recommend updating your graphics drivers if possible.
