Tiny Toon Adventures - Buster's Hidden Treasure by Soulrivers in 19:32.47

  • Recorded on Gens 9.5b
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Manipulates luck
This is an improvement of 8.4 seconds (504 frames) over the previous movie by GManiac.
The plot in this game is simple. Montana Max has kidnapped Buns Bunny and is planning to steal the secret treasure. Not that exciting.
Improvements from the previous movie come mainly from a new way of accelerating. At the start of every level, the speed is 1, however it is easily altered to 2 by doing a small 1-frame jump on the second frame of movement. When your speed reaches 5 (which takes about 2 seconds in-game time), I discovered you can use the sliding move followed by a jump for at least 3 frames, rocketing your speed to 7, which is the maximum speed.
However the biggest improvement is found in the water level after facing Montana Max the first time (ship level). Due to the accelerating method described above, I managed to jump over all the small bodies of water, only stopping to get hurt by the sledges (no way to avoid these, they are on a global timer).
Other improvements are optimised movement in some places, avoiding more carrots (each carrot you collect slows the score screen at the end of each level down by 2 frames) and better boss manipulation, most noticeable at the first boss. I must admit though, GManiac did a terrific job at optimising the previous movie, making it hard to beat his time by any significant amount.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. I'm not sure I got the right ROM though. (I tried Tiny Toon Adventures - Buster's Hidden Treasure (U) [!].gen, which was the closest match to what you wrote.) Well, here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.

Truncated: Good improvement, accepting.

Soulrivers: Cancelling due to obvious reasons.

That game seems actually like good tas material to me. I regret not having seen GManiac's run earlier (did watch it now and liked it). Good improvement soulrivers and nice find with the acceleration trick. That 20 minutes went by surprisingly fast :)

Nice improvement. Love this game. I'm hoping someone can do a 100% all-levels run of this. A few of the skipped levels would look good TASed I think :)

I can't vote due to my status, but if I could... I should maybe vote 'Yes' because this movie is really better than my and I haven't nor much intention neither much free time to try to beat it, but... you know, this movie is not perfect. It lost some frames even before 2nd level. But I think, it's not so awful and you lost maximum 1/3 of a second through the whole game, and however it's a good work.

I didn't suppose this, but I improved only first two worlds by 118 frames. So you should to polish you movie.

Whew, I certainly wasn't expecting this. By the first two worlds, do you mean the first two stages or the zones (in this case it would be greenlands and the forest)? Either way I have no idea what you could've done as I to my knowledge never stop moving in either of them except in the cave, though I can see no possible improvements there. Any hints?

Of course, plains and forests :). It would be too unexpecting if I said about only first two levels. Main hints: in some places you slid too late, also in some places you didn't slide at all because of circumstances, for example, 3d level of forest; later I guessed why you did so, but found improved tactis with waterfall area. This oversights let me to win about 10 frames in such places. Also I improved 1st boss by 11 frames, but it's still not perfect.
