Thanks! ^^ I actually have tried to use google. I searched for "logical" "dos game(s)", for "dos game(s)" "marble" and many more, searched some entire sites with dos game collections and screen shots for them (game by game), but couldn't find it anywhere.
You're doing it wrong then. First hit (after the other search suggestion).

By the way, I just typed "logical abandonware". If it's ever been released on a PC, such a keyword would help often.

Seems like I failed. I didn't think it was really called logical anymore after not finding anything on my initial searches. Whatever, I hate that game. I still can't beat the "times change" level.. After all these years! :( Edit: Made it. >_> "more popcorn" is similarly hard. I hate this game.

I know, this isn't the right thread, but I just have to share this.. I hate this game! This has happened to me just now: The chance of something like this happening is like 3/4 to the power of 37, isn't it? It's impossible to happen. (I would have needed 4 purple balls to clear the first wheel.)

It's nearly the same chance of someone becoming interested in such a game!

Ah, the nostalgia. These colours and pixels remind me of Squarez. Among many other MCGA games, really...

First time I see this topic. This is a really neat idea. Myself, I am looking for a game too. I used to rent it when I was somewhere around ten years old (I'm in my 20's now), and I haven't played it since - yet, I have been looking for it since back then. It was a racing game, either on NES or SNES. The first three cars would have a blue, green and red flag (if I recall correctly) on the minimap showing the track (but would otherwise look normal when you'd see them in your screen). That's... pretty much all I remember. Oh, and in the qualification part (I *think* there was one?), the other AI drivers would have names like C.Peters, A.Session or I.Furillo and such. The AI driver names would be shown like that (first name shown as just the first letter with a dot, but the full last name). I'm pretty sure the names I mentioned above were correct from the game (ie I made no mistake and remember them correctly), or close, but I know that various unlicensed games would make up fake names even if they simulate real sports, so that's why searching these names on Google gives me nothing related to the game... I looked for it a lot with Google in the past, but no luck...
I lurk, okay?

In my youth a friend of mine was addicted to two arcade games. I'm wondering what they were (and if they could be TAS-worthy). I only remember some details of them: 1) A typical 2D fighting game viewed from the side. The only thing I remember is that between levels there were bonus stages, one of them being three bulls charging at the playable character, and you had to knock them out with punches or kicks. 2) A 2D wild west game from an aerial perspective. Levels scrolled down, and you controlled a sheriff (or such) and could shoot to three directions (up and diagonals). In some levels there was a horse which you could ride and could take three hits (IIRC) before dying. At the end of each level there was a tough boss. (I don't remember details about the bosses, except for one, which dodged your bullets by rolling on the ground.)

Sounds like Gunsmoke to NES to me. Except the dodging bullet part.. so maybe another version of it?

It was an arcade game, not a console game. Perhaps the NES version could simply be a port of the same game, though.

Oh wait, the boss dodges bullets. I misread it there. But it definately sounds like Gunsmoke then. And even if I don't know if it exists at all, an arcade version of the game sounds very plausible. Or the other way around of course, a NES version of the arcade game.

Making an image search on "gunsmoke arcade", it looks like it could definitely be the game. (Btw, anybody up to TASing it? It would bring memories... :) ) (OTOH, it was probably an autoscroller, so it would be more a playaround than a speedrun... Well, at least the bosses are probably something which can be speedrunned.)

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=826&highlight= From the era when I was new to TAS'ing. I haven't bothered watching this old famtasia run since I made it, so I suspect it doesn't look good in several aspects. But oh well, one TAS is made of the game.

I kind of doubt I would ever play these games, but I would like to at least know what the heck they were...
  • A NES platformer that I once saw at a friend's house. I'm probably not even remembering it right. Anyway, I believe you played a ninja, and you would go from room to room taking out enemies. You could cling to the walls. It had a red color scheme.
  • A PC or DOS game I remember playing on my uncle's old Windows 3.1. It was a top-down tank game, with very detailed graphics for the time. It was booted from a floppy disk.

My brother and I were talking last night, and there are a couple of games we played at a laundromat all the time as kids, but can't remember the name of. The first is a top down space shooter. There are four weapons: Default, Type A (a stream of electricity), Type B (a wide spread gun), and Type C (a narrow spread with two cross-things that would fly around the screen, dealing damage). Each weapon came with it's own type of bomb, and were upgraded by letting time pass without dying. The other was a Contra clone. It is so much a Contra clone that, although I remember the game clearly, I can't describe it very much without describing Contra as well. The single biggest difference is that your characters look more like Master Chief, and I don't think aliens figured into the plot. Perhaps he can provide more details...
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

tymime: You are possibly talking about the classic tank game Fire Power. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Power_(video_game) http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/fire-power/screenshots/gameShotId,46235/ (press next for more pictures)

Hmm... I think that may be it, what with the squashed soldiers and all. I could have sworn the graphics were better than that, though.

It sounds like Probotector. The european version of Contra.

It wasn't. It was a clone, not a re-skinning. Everyone was human. I need to get Shadowbyrn on to describe it, he played it more than I did.
