This is a powerful movie,played by me-HappyLee.
Patch can be found here: http://nightbug.net/mario/air/airmenu2.html (Patch to Super Mario Bros. (JU) [!].nes)
This game made by U1,it's a great game, but not exact,so I use lots of programming errors to save more times. And now it's fast enough.
Thank you for watching!

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. I'm not sure I got the right ROM though. (I tried Super Mario Bros. (JU) [!].nes, which was the closest match to what you wrote.) Well, here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.

HappyLee: Excuse me,Mr robot, this is not a real Super Mario Bros, the ROM can be found in http://nightbug.net/mario/air/airmenu2.html
Here are some pictures I've got:

adelikat: Not all movies here aim for fastest time. The air 2 publication is one such example. It intentionally avoids shortcuts that were deemed uninteresting to watch. This movie does those shortcuts and has had a much lower audience approval as a result. While it is faster, it has failed to entertain. I am rejecting this submission.

HappyLee, you are right to assume that aiming for speed is usually what we do here. However, there are some games that are meant to show more of a game to make it more entertaining. Tony Hawk 3 for the N64 is a prime example. So next time, try not to just aim for a "record", although that is important for many of the games here. Aim to make an entertaining movie that is enjoyable to watch.
but other movies are rejected for being too slow even if they are far less entertaining ??????? also this thread is so stupid it's funny also air1's movie broke several of the author's rules also air2's movie did the same thing but okay I guess arbitary following some of the rules but not all is fine? oops logic just went out the windooooooooow

This is a website of impressive tool-assisted movies. Most of the time, speed is the only way to impress to the fullest possible extent. This is not one of those times.

This is a website of entertaining movies. If the movie is not fun to watch, it doesn't matter how fast it is.

It's not about following the rules or not. It's about every goddamn level looks the same this way, and none of the prior publications on this aimed purely for speed. And none have been obsoleted purely on the basis of speed.

what exactly defines "entertaining" in this context this run (and the hack that goes with it) is entertaining only in some ways and only to some people, i.e. it isn't exactly possible to make something entertaining for everybody also, if we are supposedly throwing out the requirement of obeying the hack author's brainy puzzles for some simple solution then what defines what puzzles should be skipped and what shouldn't? even then, why is breaking out of them so bad? you would think a run that annihilates the boundaries of such a hack would be perfect, or if not the other way, but air1 and air2 break the rules in their own way. i.e. what?

since when was strict following of the puzzles a requirement? I thought the goal was to create the most entertaining movie.

It doesn't have to be entertaining to everybody. But it has to be entertaining to at least one person besides the author. After all, if the only person who's interested in a TAS is the one who made it, what's the point of publishing it at all?

Entertainment wise, this movie is more boring than mushroom's simply because there is less action due to so much being skipped. Plus, it's a hack. Plenty of commercial retail games for the NES get rejcted due to boringness no matter how fast. Nothing against you.
what defines "too much being skipped"? "too much being followed"? in that case, why bother doing a hack at all? just make your own hack designed to be as entertaining as possible, instead of using something intended for another purpose and selectively breaking rules. the "no matter how fast" argument falls apart since this game has been published before, why was it even included

I personally found it entertaining as an example of how badly the rules in this can be broken and I most definitely think it is publishable aside a run that solves every puzzle as it was meant to be, but I guess that's just me

TASes aren't just about records, that's what's different to regular speedruns. A speedrun is so the player can prove his skills, a TAS is so the audience is entertained, breaking a game and completing it absurdly fast is often entertaining, especially for games the viewer played before and considers hard. However, there are often ways to break a game that get boring because they use a trick to skip all the challenge and end up looking like anyone could do it after performing the glitch. There are other cases where the fastest approach isn't interesting, e.g. in Super Metroid it's possible to skip all the bosses by performing a LOOOOOOOOONG glitch. It's faster but most of the time is spent jumping up through a wall and that's no fun to watch. People come here to see amazing things, not to see the player chicken out and take a stupidly simple route. Cheats are faster than regular play too BTW but they make it look like it takes even less skill. Anyway... Did you like watching this movie? (Vote after watching!) How would you vote on this if your answer was "it's technically better but no fun to watch"? The question doesn't ask for technique, it asks for entertainment.

mostly not caring. I gave up long ago trying to give two shits about how things worked here (they're usually so inconsistant and broken anyway) ... most of it now is just because I have nothing else to do at 00:00 when I'm sick in bed. heh as I said earlier, in super-condensed form: this movie would be most entertaining if it was coupled with a movie that ran though the game as it was intended. the currently published movie would not compare.

although on second thought i'd just say if you like these kinds of movies just go watch some of sistermind's stuff because it's about ten times more entertaining than some things here. mostly because of video tricks to speed it up during boring repetition and slow it down during interesting parts. the later movies show this wonderfully.

I like Mushroom's movie better in general, because it's way more entertaining... But I like the "way faster" concept of this one... I'm confused. Therefore, Meh vote.

Well, son, what you are feeling is normal. In fact I, too, was confused at your age... Seeing mario run across the level is great in a speedrun, but in a TAS, well, the impossible should happen. I.E. frame perfect is the aim. I am not saying happylee's is NOT frame perfect, but not solving the riddles, so to speak, in a perfect manner does not lead to an amazing TAS. It just leads to some guy pressing forward for a couple thousand frames.

I like how you place 'entertaining' before tool assisted notice how T-A takes precedence over the S or sometimes E. To prevent this discussion from streching 5 pages long I'll come to a crossroads on this issue This is a website for tool assisted movies that are entertaining. Thats sounds almost like a constitution
