Castlevania 2 TAS by zggzdydp. This run is 2 minutes 23 seconds faster than my previous run, improvements come from new planning, new tricks and a few lag reduction.
In this run, I ran with a new route which is very different from the previous one. Compare to the previous route, there is no waiting time in this one, I arrived at the towns in the day time which the guys with crystal are there. And I got a powerful whip (morning star) very early in the route, some mansions were finished smoother. A shortcoming of the route: it needs to collect lots of hearts to buy items, so I had to kill many enemies in beginning and a few more enemies in Laruba mansion.
New glitches: in Rover mansion, I warped to a secret mansion (in fact it's a part of Laruba mansion, but no enemy in it), this is a good shortcut for completing the mansion. In Brahm mansion, I used "off stair glitch" after bought the oak stake, then I zipped into the wall to go out and save my time. In some mansions, I killed a few enemies to reduce lag.
Many many thanks to klmz for the route planning and some tricks, also thanks Bisqwit and Walker Boh for their contributions, and every author who improved FCEU emulator.

Bisqwit: Cool improvement. Accepting.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Castlevania II - Simon's Quest (U).nes

Bisqwit: Removed screenshots, apparently it had desynced…

The same glitch can be done with the Dagger. I believe it's done by throwing the Dagger and on the frame it disappears, have it hit your target and they should go down. Here's an example fcm

Yeah, it wouldn't be a bad idea to use the third dagger (not the first one you see) to try to get rid of some enemies. That would pretty much spice up the run a little bit. Most daggers are thrown in a straight line, so if Simon can pick the right point of the screen to throw the dagger and keep walking, he might score about 2 to 5 enemies before the dagger leaves the screen. And of course, to reduce lagging.

I think the dagger requires a purchase? That would take too long to do.

Of course the dagger alone requires purchase. The third-level dagger is known as a golden knife. According to walkthroughs, you can obtain this dagger free of charge by defeating the grim reaper at some mansion; I forgot which one.

About off-stair glitch: stand on a stair next to the right border, walk to left to make the screen scrolls, then stop and walk to right until the screen stops scrolling, do it repeatedly. In the route, the dagger seller is too far. I try to kill Dracula by "golded knife glitch", but the knife crossed the whole screen from a side to another, I have no idea how to make it hits a enemy on the last frame before it disappears.

okie-doke. but if daggers or even golden knifes are useful, I can't wait to see a new run. until then, you got this one on the nose. =)

Is defeating Death faster than defeating Dracula?

My thoughts about fall-through-floor glitch: * The game only checks Simon's feet against the floor surface. It doesn't care if any part of Simon is inside the floor. * When whipping, Simon's collision box is smaller than usual: its bottom is higher. * Some mysterious state transitions take place at the frame Simon lands. They must be neccessary. * If Simon's vertical subpixel positioning is "proper", he may have his feet inside the floor right after the whipping animation ends, and the game finds that his feet don't collide with the surface, so the game lets him continue to fall.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Going left to start the game is ludicrous enough but to do it at night is just unthinkable. Great glitches. Nice run. Very Entertaining.

Here's a few facts about this run, at least the way I been seeing it: Simon does not go straight to the first mansion he sees. Berkeley is usually to the right and Simon can always get there. However, he defeats monsters, gears up with the crystal, holy water and morning star, then gets a lift from an acid drop to warp to Laruba mansion. Simon picked a different spot to call a tornado. A few players usually duck at the very end of Jam Wasteland to call a tornado, but the speed of the tornado (at the end point) could be the reason as to how fast Simon went the moment he showed up at the front door of Bodley mansion. Simon chose to settle for the Morning Star. In the previous run, he did get the Flame Whip. But if the Morning Star was as powerful as the Flame Whip, maybe this saved some time. Research is needed. Oh, and one more thing I came across:

On that map link, I noticed there was a guy in a cemetary (the route after crossing a poison marsh from Laruba mansion) that held a silver knife. I don't know if that would play any good role in the future runs, but it does take garlic to get it.

I'm starting to get into (realtime) running CV2 right now, and I can't really find much information on this "off-stair glitch" you used. Are there any demos or anything that showcase this glitch better?
Did I seriously just get asked for an ICQ number?
