I just started encoding the Mega Man 3 movie. It'll be published in an hour or two. Some of my favourite things: - Starting from Geminiman level was a total surprise to me. - The trick at the Protoman fight in Gemini Man level - Very accurate sliding overall - Weapon use was creative, all bosses were done very quick Generally, this video is almost as good as Kopernical's Mega Man 4 video. However, here are some things I didn't like: - Lots of unneeded energy refills were collected. - The Magnet Man level had a few places where I recall having played faster when I did it. - Fire accuracy was not as careful as in Kopernical's movie, but only very little worse than in Morimoto's Rockman movie. - Lots of useless refills collected in the revisited Needleman level. Did you know that Rushjet doesn't consume energy, if you jump on it? - One useless energy loss in the battle with Hardman. The mistake wasn't repeated in the rematch, though. - One useless energy loss in Heatman. - The instant kill was nice in Rock monster, but I liked the predictive jumping style of Morimoto more than the jumping and sliding style in this movie. The avi file of this movie has sound and video slightly in desync, because famtasia for some reason decided to insert lag somewhere that it removed only very late. I understand this movie was a lot of trouble to make, but I hope to someday see a version that has the above points improved. I publshed it, because: - the problems I saw were relatively small compared to the trouble this movie was to make - it was overall much faster and better than my (broken) version.

I can explain the above points, hope it wont be too long of a read: - Lots of unneeded energy refills were collected. A lot of the enemies kept dropping the little weapon refills and I found it unavoidable. I made sure to always slide through them so it doesnt pause my movement. - The Magnet Man level had a few places where I recall having played faster when I did it. Are you sure about that? Look at our times: Bisqwit-Magnetman(1:32): 1:24, 0:08 Sleepz-Magnetman(1:33): 1:19, 0:14 I did the level 5 sec faster, but that may be due to the use of rush jet and the faster kill of protoman. You beat me at the boss battle since I didnt have the best weapon to use on him. This level is one second slower than yours, but I average about 10-30 sec faster on all other levels. - Fire accuracy was not as careful as in Kopernical's movie, but only very little worse than in Morimoto's Rockman movie. Yea, could improve a little on the accuracy. - Lots of useless refills collected in the revisited Needleman level. Did you know that Rushjet doesn't consume energy, if you jump on it? Yes. I find that jumping while on rush slows the game down slightly, and also when you land on rush, it slows his movement for a fraction of a second. Its the same reason why I switched to rush marine instead of jet on Geminiman revisited, the game really seems to slow down when you use the jet. - One useless energy loss in the battle with Hardman. The mistake wasn't repeated in the rematch, though. Its actually faster to beat Hardman if you let him hit you since it wont freeze your movement when he hits the ground. The reason I dont take the hit on the rematch was because I was planning to take hits from Topman and Shadowman afterwards, and Hardman's dive bomb can take off around 40% of your energy. All hits I take are on purpose, not mistake. - One useless energy loss in Heatman. Heatman takes 4 hits to beat with Topspin, so usually, he will charge at you 3 times, once after every hit. However, when I did it, he only charged twice. In this battle, I take the hits in a way so I can hit him twice after his first charge and so hes not flying across the room which wastes time. I use this same technique on Topman(I land 2 hits before his first charge) and Crashman(another 2 quick hits). Once again, I take the hits on purpose. - The instant kill was nice in Rock monster, but I liked the predictive jumping style of Morimoto more than the jumping and sliding style in this movie. Well, got nothing better to do while Rock monster is putting himself together. I had a few ideas for a possibly faster run after I finished. But I probably wont start again until Im done my other recordings.

I didn't say the level as whole, but a few places. What you handled faster than me: - Protoman - The room where you used Rushjet What you did slower than me: - You stopped at 7:32 for a moment to shoot enemies - The beginning of the level (you let the flying magnets slow your movement)
This level is one second slower than yours, but I average about 10-30 sec faster on all other levels.
Indeed. Congratulations on that :)

It might indeed be that a jumping Mega Man uses more sprites than a standing Mega Man, thus causing more load. How to resolve: Kill more enemies ;) Ps: I just noticed that I encoded the movie with an exceptionally low bitrate. It was an accident, but hopefully nobody complains :P

Great Job! Some of my thoughts: -Gemini Man's stage was incredible, especially the opening stretch. Those little firebombs drove me crazy! Skipping Protoman was a wonderful surprise; shame about the resulting glitches, but hey, this is for speed, isn't it? -Needle Man got PWNED! ^_^ -Getting hit by Magnetman so many times didn't look that cool. But I understand that if you don't do that, he jumps around a lot more and time is wasted. -Hard Man...wow. Those goddamn bees; I hate them so much. You ditched them cold. Great use of Rush Jump too. -2 points for spinning into Shadow Man's lair. I wonder if it's even possible to use that stupid Top Spin weapon without getting hit? Still, fast is fast. -Great run on all 4 revisited stages. The Mega Man 2 bosses aren't easy, but you clobbered them. -Nice "anticipating" running and attacking on Wily's 1st stage. You could've used a little more Rush to expedite that long ladder climb, but no biggie. -HOT DAMN! Rock Monster got ERASED. And I liked how you stood perfectly still, then jumped, then stood still, then slid, etc. Frankly, it was cooler than Morimoto. There, I said it. Very nice. Thank you very much for doing this. I saw that re-record number, so I understand how much time and effort this must have taken. Thanks again.

Similarlly very cool were those Mega Man 2 boss fights where you just _stood_ away from the fight room instead of walking. Very eerie looking - especially the one where you stood away from the room while facing the opposite direction.

I have to agree there was some nice style in that coreography. :)

>Ps: I just noticed that I encoded the movie with an exceptionally low bitrate. It was an accident, but hopefully nobody complains :P I think it looks just fine. I also think its a good idea since it really cuts down on the filesize of the movie, correct? >-2 points for spinning into Shadow Man's lair. I wonder if it's even possible to use that stupid Top Spin weapon without getting hit? Yes, it is. However, if you want to hit Shadow Man twice in one spin, you have to get in on him and get hit.

It's good. I've done a Rockman 2 movie but haven't posted it yet, it is very similar to Morimoto's one, i just wanted to see how i would do it, but it is almost the same. Now i'm working on Megaman 3, and i think it'll be a very good one, some surprises along the gameplay that you'll like, i've beated 3 bosses on 06:17.

fmv is good for authentity verification and for viewing once. avi is good for browsing back and forth and inspecting in detail - easier to view too :)

More importantly, using FMVs will cut down on storage space. I had nearly 2 Gigs of speed run videos squatting on my hard drive. Now all I keep are a few hundred kB of ROMs & FMVs. Save Space! Use FMV!

Then again, FMVs will only work with Famtasia and 2Gigs of movies will fit on just 3 CDs...

I'm a huge fan of metroid speed runs (from the SDA, metroid2002 websites) but these take huge spaces. At least SmokeyX does his with zsnes and publish his zmv files :P (go check his 100% 0:59 run of Super Metroid)

Irrelevant. I quote the board rules (which you should have read by now): The focus on every post should be your text. This means that overly big signatures (> 3 lines), signatures that distract from the posting or overly big avatars (> 80x80) are not allowed.

I wonder why that happens. Jumping has no impact on speed in Mega Man 1.

I know that improving Mega Man 3 is something that a lot of people want to see and I've been working on one for a while but right now I just don't have the time or, quite frankly, the desire to finish it. If anybody wants to try or use it for their own run then let me know and I can send it to you. From start to killing the eighth robot it's 15:46 which is 42 seconds faster than the current version.

Acctually, I don't think you should give away what you've worked so hard with. Why not wait to finish it when you get the time?
Bein' away for like five years, and not a single new post in the ZSNES forum... :'-(

I would only like to watch it. Not finish it for you. But please, post it if you feel like it. Or send me it private.

Same order. I can't see any other being faster.

I was just a little annoyed with it when I posted that. I'll probably take a break from it and get back to it sometime. I want to see it done, I just don't want to finish it ;-)

I have seen kopernical's movie and I must say it looks awesome when compared to Sleepz's. I'm really looking forward to seeing a finished version by anyone, but I hope it'll be kopernical himself.

Be sure to make a short break from that Kopernical. I would like to see it finished as well. :D
