Thanks for your comments. Arne has found out a new technique which will force me to redo some of the run... This will never be finished :(.

How edit-friendly is this game? Any chance this trick might be edited in, or is it one of those tricks that will force you to redo large sections?

Sadly not hexfriendly at all. There's a lot of random lag all the time and things like that. There are several levels where this trick can be used, the earliest one (To our knowledge) is at Orang-Utan Gang, which is the second to last level in the forest world. So the whole Ice World will be redone. Hopefully Arne will join the run now though and that should probably speed up the progress.

I saved 42 frames compared with latest any% run. I used same snes9x as Tompa. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1831166535/DKC1any.smv I did before entering 5-3. Edit: I saved more 3 frames.

Argh... I'm so stupid. I knew about the steel barrel version, but I couldn't imagine that it would actually be faster. Then I realized it will save two switches with the monkeys, so that would obviously make it faster. Very nice! Edit: Just testing this strategy myself, managed to shave some more frames. But whatever.

I don't know, but I like the way it's on the submitted run, makes it look more complex than it really is. I'm sad that this glitch can't be used on DKC3, it would kick some serious asses...

YES!! plus 82 frames saved, now it's 124 frames saved. But I don't think it's maxed. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1264775245/DKC1any.smv

Maybe this is my final improvement. I couldn't avoid a lag around Necky... 154 frames saved from my before smv. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/433800212/DKC1any.smv

Okay, the any% seems to be unbeatable already, but what about the 101%? Is there anybody working or planning to work on an improvement?

I have been working on it off and on the last 4 years. Current progress is the glitch in Croctopus Chase. I'm waiting for Arne to get back his motivation before I'll continue with it. I also have started an improvement to it from scratch, using the 1.51 version.

Prepare to wait forever. But yes, 101% is in big need of an improvement but Croctopus Chase has just made us pretty demotivated. I believe Tompa has a WIP on his youtube channel though?

Thank you guys for the fast reply, too bad about your motivation though... I'm not very familiar with the tricks of DKC1, but I'd love to help you out. so, if you can (and want, of course), please post (or send me) your wips. I'm out of projects at the moment, so I can give it a lot of my spare time. Edit: well, I'll take the delay as a "don't mess with our run, we can handle it :)" answer and will wish you the best of luck.

The WIP has already been posted at the end of page 3. Even though that one has redone the Ice World and will include the glitch in Croctopus Chase, which is the reason I haven't finished the run. I really want to finish the run however and will do so eventually.

Oh, that wip, sorry to ask for something that's already here. I believe you worked hard on those four years and the best we can do is give you all the time you need to finish it, good luck.

A question... It has been found that you can skip the bosses (Won't be faster for all of them) and still get 101% at the end. Should a 101% TAS do this or should all levels + bosses be completed anyway? For reference: 100% Super Metroid skips two bosses as of now, so I would presume this should also be OK.

For me it would be ok, as long as you visit every bonus. Imo the boss fights in DK are very boring.

Actually, the 101% doesn't really visit every bonus. Some will be start-selected as soon as you start entering the bonus room. Some few rooms doesn't count towards 101% as well. I'm also curious knowing what people think about skipping a boss (or maybe it'll be two) in a 101% run. It's a bit strange to not play through them all, but then again, we don't play everything in the game either.

Depends if skipping them is even more boring than fighting them (some of the fights have decent entertainment potential). Also, which bosses would be skipped this way?

It's not set in stone yet if and how this will go down. I'm pretty sure the boss on the second world might save time. It's pretty much: Complete world 2 except the boss. Go to first world, do the map warp to Orang-utan-gang. Complete the third world normally Re-enter the third world completing the rest of the stages. Take Funky's Flight to fourth world. All in all, it will look pretty strange and might save some seconds.

Oh, okay then. Necky I could live without.

Since the bonuses are barely acknowledged in the 101% version of this game, I don't think it's that big a deal to skip some bosses as well. On the other hand, those bosses wouldn't be shown on this site at all then. Maybe someday there could be a run that does all bosses and completes all bonuses successfully.
