Since TASVideos obviously has a rather large number of gamers around, I wonder how many actually play board games as well? I've been boardgaming more or less actively for 10 years or so now, got into it when Settlers of Catan hit Finland. After that it was Carcassonne, but I've never really got into Ticket to Ride. Nowadays I do play some in Xbox Live though, but I still don't really like it. I do play a small amout of wargames every now and then. Currently Twilight Struggle has been a favorite and I'm looking towards Red Star Rising at the moment. Current favorites include Age of Steam, Brass, Agricola, Vegas Showdown and Mü. Other train games are nice as well (like 18XX, Wabash Cannonball). These change often though, but I guess my BGG collection can be used to characterize me, even though it's a bit out of date.

I hadn't played board games too seriously until I began college last year. Favorites among my floor included Settlers and Carcassonne (which I haven't learned yet) My personal favorite game would have to be Citadels. I suppose it's more of a card based game, but it's conceptually similar to a board game in my opinion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citadels_%28game%29 Much of the game is based around guessing which character ability your opponents choose. Not all character abilities are in play, but you can target your opponent if you successfully guess which of a few characters they chose.

By "board games," do we include Trivial Pursuit? Because I love that game.

Well, obviously it fits under board games. It's really not my kind of game though, mainly due to huge amount of randomness. I'm more fond of games where I get to do the decisions. Same reasoning why I don't like to play Monopoly. Actually, there's some better trivia games available as well. Wits and Wagers is a trivia game with more of a gamer's game feel to it. And I think that's now on XBLA as well.

The only boardgame I really like is Shogun/Samurai Swords. When I was in college, once a week a few of my friends and I would get together, play that, and watch Celebrity Deathmatch and anime. We called it Otaku no Shogun night.

Does it have to be board games? What about tile and card games? 'Cause I'm quite partial to a game of Rummikub, Phase 10, or some variant of Munchkin. Currently I have Star Munchkin and its expansion, and my friend has Super Munchkin, its expansion, and Munchkin Blender. Much craziness ensues when we combine all three, not that playing one on its own isn't crazy...
<Zurreco> if so called professional players cant adapt to every playing field, theyre obviously not that great

They don't really qualify as "board" games, but my family enjoys the hell out of playing Balderdash and Apples to Apples. Rarely does a game happen that at least one of us doesn't burst out laughing.

It's kinda funny that someone created that topic because I was about to create such topic someday. I don't play those modern boardgames mainly because they are so so so expensive. I bought a lot of old used(sometimes they are new old) games at cheap price. The other day, I saw a Donkey Kong game and bought for 2$ CAD. I didn't know such game existed. Then I have realized there exist many Super Mario Bros. games. The game I'm playing a lot recently with one of my friend and which don't make me continue the SCV4 TAS so much :P is Careers. Imo, it's way better than Monopoly. I have bought some other couple games that I haven't played yet. One game that I don't own but would like is Axis and Allies, any version. That really worth the play.

Mostly just Monopoly. Scattergories also comes up, if you wish to count that as a board game. I'll also play chess, though it is certainly not my strong suit.

Chess and Scrabble have always been my preferred board games. Bughouse is fun, too, though it's hard to find enough people that know how to play.
