Here is the all red gem run, for best ending. For those who do not know the difference, the best ending is when 70 red gems are collected. In the end,it shows Alladin, played by the computer, in some of the game levels, while cast names are displayed. It is, imo, a much better ending than showing the same lame Jasmin/Aladdin/Carpet level, all the way to the end.

Objectives

  • Aims for fastest time with all Red gems
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Some luck manipulation
  • Uses no password

Emulator & Settings

  • SNES9x 1.43+ v9
    • WIP1 timing - On
    • Allow Left+Right/Up+Down _ On
    • Volume envelope height reading - Off
    • Fake mute desync workaround - On
    • Sync samples with sound CPU - Off

mmbossman: I agree with many of the responses in the thread; this run provides a lot more variety and chances for exhibition of acrobatics than the previous version. However, I believe that the general content of both this and the any% run are too similar to be published alongside each other. To use a poor metaphor, they're both the same meal, and this version simply adds a little more spice. I'm accepting this run as a "good ending" version of the game, to obsolete the current "any %" run.

What, exactly, is even different between the two endings? (I don't remember the original, non-super-player one.) Aside from that, it's good to have a 100% run, and it doesn't seem to be too bad, so... I give this a thumbs up :P

The original aimed for fastest time in general. But for this run, it's a challenge to see how fast you can not only collect red gems but beat the game also. And I'll have to look at this, too. But how will the judges feel?

This is what I think about it: 1. The goal is well defined and reasonable. 2. This was slightly more entertaining than the basic movie. 3. I got very bored, when I watched both of them. 4. If only one publication is accepted for this game, then I would prefer this one.

It wasn't too boring for me, 8/9 Oh, and a red gem should be called a Ruby.

A red gem (or ruby) otherwise known as a 100% run? Interesting, I will get to watching.

If you want a glimps at the non-super-player ending, watch the Jasmin/Aladdin/Carpet level. It's funny that when finished in 15 minutes, the game does not consider you as a super player.

I thought so too It seems a ruby is a gemstone Should i change it for "All Ruby"? I thought, all red gem sounded good.

Either way, it's your run, I'm satisfied, ratings are okay, and this could be a possibility of publishing at least the way I see this.

Considering that this submission is only 45 seconds longer than the currently published movie, what would people think about having this movie obsolete the current publication? Without having watched the two movies side by side yet, I'll say that I would be very surprised if they offered very different viewing experiences. Thoughts on the idea?

I haven't watched this yet, but it is possible that the 100% run could obsolete the any% run. I keep going back and forth between the idea, but IMO if it is <1 minute of added gameplay, why shouldn't it obsolete the old one?

I figured collect every gem, even the red ones, and that could really be 100%. But mmbossman is right, it will be longer than the latest Aladdin publication.

Even if I loved the old run a lot, since this 100% isn't much slower and different from that, I'd say an obsoletion is due.

Terse: What Aqfaq said. Long: I preferred this run over the any%. I'm not sure why. Maybe just the deviation from what was relatively monotone platforming? Anyway, 7.7/abstain.

I strongly prefer this run to the any%, but I believe mmbossman is correct that it doesn't offer a significantly different experience from the published one, so an obsoletion would be due if it is accepted.

Hooray for my childhood games getting decimated! I found myself inadvertently humming along with the music. Should a 100% run really obsolete the any%? 45 seconds may not seem like much but for a 16 minute run it's actually quite a bit of gameplay.

I watched this and the any% run side by side just for the hell of it. I tend to prefer runs like this that go get optional things (if there's a good reason for it anyway) so I voted this a little higher. As a side note what exactly is your forum pic supposed to be, jaysmad? Robotic metroid?

I dont think it should obsolete the other run, since it is two different endings and different goals. If you look at any popular games like Megaman, Metroid or Mario... They all have multiple runs. SMW "small only" is one example and MM quad run is another. Should i make a capeless run??? I dont think so.

Is the first boss optimal ? There seems to be a delay longer when you give the third hit. In the second stage, when you are about to go down in the "tresure room" you use your cape to slow down. Why ?

For the first boss, i saved 3 frames by hitting him first with the apple and i dont remember the third hit not being optimal but ill check it out. As for the treasure room... I just used the cape to wait for Abu since he is the key to the end of the level.

That monkey sure keeps wallhacking in later levels. That's so cheap. Anyway, this was more entertaining then the regular run, but, well, it's still Aladdin, still not the best game in the world to watch. 8 or so on entertainment, and no idea on tech.

I double checked it and every hit has 48 frames between the apple in the face and the jump on the head. I think it's that i use the non-turbo cape on the third hit that creates the illusion that time is slower...

it totally omits everything about the "all red gem part". it replaced the previous normal run version. shouldn't a separate version have been released ? or at least, fulfill both the description and the filename accordingly ?
