If Willow seems a little too boring, I might decide to shift out of NES altogether and see what it takes to beat PlayStation games starting with this. Now anyway... This game begins with a night at the opera in New York City where a female cop (Aya) notices a human on stage (Eve/Melissa) evolve into a monster and controlling other people without even touching them. From there on, Aya spends six days investigating the case and restoring the city as much as possible. Aya must eliminate Eve and even snap out of such useless scientific information that Eve always gives her. There are at least two ways of TAS'ing this game: either aiming for fastest in-game time* or aiming for fastest time using TAS-related tools. I kept track of my in-game time as I been playing along. I think I'm at about 1h 30m going into Day 5: Evolution. If push come to shove, I might play the game again where in-game time is suitable for submission to Speed Demos Archive. * The in-game clock can be seen by accessing the menu using triangle and it sits at the upper-right-hand side.

Apologies since I was away from my home computer. I'm at almost 3 hours in-game. One reason the game can be so difficult is because if you needed HP recovery, it is strictly limited to parasite energy and medicines.

Are you in a test run or already optimized run? I would have tough you dont get hit at all by tasing this game (not sure if you are actually, was not realy clear on first post)

You shouldn't need healing because you shouldn't get hit. Getting hit costs you points needed to get powerful faster. I've fiddled a bit with this, but I'm not sure on how critical hits work. I got it to go on my first hit against Actress, but I can't get it to go again. I need it with that fight, because 4 critical 10 damage hits is better then 6 7 damage hits.

Okay, I am conducting numerous tests to see how fast I can beat the game, SDA style, without TAS'ing it.

...and I hope there is an emulator that has a "memory-watch" feature (compared to FCEU) because perhaps PSX games may have more memory addresses than an NES ROM.

I did a TAS of this a couple of months ago but I lost the run because my old computer broke, and I don't remember the time anymore. I also did the EX mode. I think the ingame time at the end (for the EX mode) was 2:30, but the 'real time' was 3h.

3 hour? I haven't played Parasite Eve for a while but I swear that it can be beaten in 3 hours unassisted so I constantly thinking it can be finished in 2 hours with TAS.

it gets a little repetitive though because the Chrysler Building looks the same everywhere. but occasionally you get into a random encounter which lasts 2 seconds.

nah, you misunderstood me. i was talking about the EX mode. i don't remember what my time for the normal mode was. what i meant with the 'real time' is the time which the emulator said the movie file was. often the ingame time is not very accurate, like in super metroid for example.

The thing about the timer that makes it inaccurate is that it's ALWAYS running. Title screen for certain, and I'm pretty sure pause screens too. As for EX Mode, I think it has to be like Chrono Trigger NG+ - just go in with perfect status and weapons, then just run your way up. And as you go through the main floors, make sure you have a club equipped with 1st Strike so you can run faster.

To put it more clearly: Bosses on the following floors: 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 77th. And to my recollection, there are no random encounters on floors 71-76.

I haven't planned on working with this game, but I don't see any progress.

If we can figure out what makes critical hits, that would make me want to do this.

Standing closer to each enemy increases the chance for a more critical shot. Make sure Aya does not suffer darkness/blindness.

I pretty sure that the critical hits for the next round are determined by the time you shot previously. But the RNG (or whatever), also changes if you get hit or if you use a medicine, the time you enter the battle etc. And sometimes it seems like it's determined by the time you shoot, so if you shoot a little later, you might get a critical shot.

theres nothing to do in life so i made another god damn TAS of this game the ingame time is 2:08:09 the emulator time is approximately 2:48:30 you cant save at disc change in parasite eve and i cant record disc change with PCSX so i made separate movies for CD1 CD2 and the ex mode the ingame time for the EX mode is about 1:53:30 and emulator time is 2:20 download here http://www.savefile.com/files/2133531 i made a few strategical mistakes for example using super tools like a motherfucking idiot sorry for the profamity and i could have escaped 2 fights on day 2 and i took the autoheal armor even though it turned out to be completely useless together these cost me at least a minute there could also be some escapeable battles in the museum but i havent checked so i dunno feel free to add criticism improvements questions and so on bai

My ISO opens with the emulator, but when I run the movie, it doesn't play. Version of PCSX is 0.0.9 =/

You have the right PCSX version, but maybe you don't have the right ISO. The files I'm using are called: Parasite Eve (U) [CD1of2].bin Parasite Eve (U) [CD1of2].cue Parasite Eve (U) [CD2of2].bin Parasite Eve (U) [CD2of2].cue

It was the bin itself. Maybe it also needed the cue? I'll give it another try sometime later now that you mentioned that.

I finally got your 1st-draft movie to work. Yay! The run was okay, but if Aya is the star of the show, make sure she acts like one. Hook her up with a script where she has to dance to background music (BGM) in a programmable manner. This brings entertainment into speed and can impress our judges. Other than that, not too bad! Most people say it does look improvable at this point.

What's there to improve then, except adding some entertainment and saving a few frames here and there?

The other issue we're gonna have is that there still seems to be issues with disc swapping. Hopefully it'll be figured out soon.
