I can't seem to find a topic in this but my question is the following: What's the policy on uploading a player's TAS onto a social networking site(youtube, google, etc.)? Is anybody allowed to upload the TAS AS LONG as the uploader gives FULL credit to the player? I've seen some(but very few) uploaders on youtube who just upload a person's TAS but doesn't give credit to the player at all. I've been meaning to download a lot of these movies on this site, watch them and then upload them to youtube just for entertainment purposes. Of course i'll give FULL credit to the player in my description of the video but i won't upload those that are already uploaded by other users. The real reason i'm doing this is so that i have a copy of the avi file while recording the gameplay to avi so that i can watch it there and go back and forth or just skip to necessary parts for entertainment purposes. I do have an idea as to what to do such as email/private message the player for permission to upload their work but there are so many players here on this site that it could take forever. If a simple "upload and credit" procedure would be fine then it would save a lot of time.

There are certainly some TASers here who explicitly do not want their videos uploaded to YouTube/Rapidshare/Vimeo/whatever. Get permission from the TASer before you do anything with their work.

My policy is "Hey, whatever, go ahead, it's not like I can stop you."

On the flipside, there are TASers who prefer to have specific other people upload their runs; mostly because rogueyoshi and a couple other people are lucky enough to have YouTube accounts that can upload huge videos instead of being constrained by 100MB and 10:59. If you have special powers like that on any video-sharing site, you will be in high demand.

Not only full credit, but also full indication that it is a TAS and not something else.
Republication of movies from this site is only allowed under the following conditions: 1. Video and audio content must not be changed (including the pointers to this site), 2. The movies must be prominently labeled as tool-assisted speedruns, 3. The actual player(s) (always shown at this site) must be properly credited. Do not label them with speculations. If unsure, read Why And How or ask for details.
If you encode the movie yourself from the emulator, you can scratch over #1, but please keep #2 and #3.

Yes, by now many forum regulars probably know that I make "temporary" encodes of the submissions in the workbench almost all the times unless I'm explicitly requested not to do so. So yeah, I'm not obtaining permission for each individual submission, though I respect the submitter's wishes whenever possible. My encodes of course fail #1 of Bisqwit's points above, though I follow all the encoders' guidelines related to tagging and formatting, so #2 and #3 are guaranteed. I do this, even if my encodes can't be used for actual publication (I deliberately use a much higher bitrate to ensure maximum quality), to help people vote on the submissions, and apparently my AVIs are actually used quite a lot, at least by looking at the download stats, so I'm glad to be helpful in some way :)
