Currently, it seems that both the GCN and PS2 have emulators that will be suitable for TASing in the foreseeable future. However, I have barely heard a single word on the state of Xbox emulation in years. Is their something about the system that discourages people from emulating it, or do people just not care? Anyways, after quick Google search I found that the only Xbox emulators that have been updated recently are Cxbx and Dxbx (I am unsure about the relation between the two projects). Doing a bit of research, it appears that the compatibility of these emulators is absolutely abysmal. Additionally, both emulators are taking HLE to it's logical extreme by attempting to run as much code natively as possible. I'm no expert on the subject, but that doesn't bode well for compatibility, portability, accuracy, or synchronization in my eyes... I'm not entirely sure why I made this topic (I've only played on the Xbox for an hour tops) but I guess the real question here is something along the lines of "Will the Xbox end up being the sixth-generation equivalent to the Saturn, emulation-wise?"

The Saturn was too awesome for emulation, man! Xbox however... why? Almost all of it's games were on other consoles (PS2/GC) aswell... well, the good ones anywho.

The biggest problem with Xbox emulation is that emulating the system is incredibly easy... with the official devkit. But if you use the devkit in any way for any sort of project and don't pay dues to Microsoft or have the project approved, you will be raped by their legal team. The means to write a capable and accurate emulator for the platform are easily and readily available, but they're a forbidden fruit. And most folks that would be interested in making it happen just stare at the tree rather than search for means to accomplish their goal without damning themselves. Xbox software will only execute on a very specific operating system written for a very specific piece of hardware. The hardware emulation isn't the biggest obstacle, it's emulating the environment itself.

Oddworld: Munchs Odyssey, Oddworld: Strangers Wrath, OutRun 2, Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic 1 & 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue II, Chronicles of Riddick, RalliSport Challenge 1 & 2, Forza Motorsport, Gun Valkyrie etc. All bloody brilliant games only available on XBOX. A few of them is available on PC though, but not on any other console (except Shenmue II).

The upgraded Outrun 2 is on PS2 and PSP, as well as Xbox Live Arcade on 360.

Anything new about getting around legal problems with the Xbox emulator? Or the Xbox 360? The latter more than the former as I'd like to see a TAS of Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts & Nuts; any% or 100%.

Xbox emulation grows very slowly but making progress as you can see here: http://www.caustik.com/cxbx/ and here: http://surr.no/cxbx-ds/

Whatever it emulates (if it does), it certainly isn't Xbox or Xbox 360.

Interesting thought: If someone comes up with a way to modify the Xbox itself to record/run TASes (and people allegedly have modified Xboxes before), then the legalistic issues become moot (he would be using an Xbox to play the game, which is fully legal) and the software would be getting executed in the Xbox itself.

Héhé, it would be excellent to can do it, directly on xbox! In more, like you said, it is possible to execute iso files directly on the console, in doing a small modification ( add a USB port in hardware and use splinter cell ), this is very easy and run very well! Question is, who want to create an TAS menu for to play and TAS in game, when you know, that it's just interesting for TASers? That's not impossible, but find an motivated coder for it... Maybe with a cheat code, lol!
GAW sms... Totally destroyed
