Okay, if there was such thing as watching speedruns on-the-go with your phone, what would be the best audio and video formats to use when encoding?

Probably one that your phone supports... probably not h.264 :) I've personally watched some via YouTube which is somehow magically supported on my phone (palm treo on windows mobile)... doesn't use flash, it uses some form of streaming avi directly to the media player if I recall correctly.

I actually have Windows Mobile 6.1 so it's no problem to try to install VLC-media-player-based codecs and use them that way for video playback, right?

Let me know how that works out for you, never tried it myself. Windows Mobile != Windows so I imagine it will only work if someone's specifically ported codecs or whatever to the platform.

What would be a good video software to transcode the video from this site to a format an iPod nano would be able to read ?

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html Don't mind the ugly 1998-era site, the actual software has the biggest quality/ergonomics ratio among all media encoders/transcoders I've seen. However, it will probably not be possible to watch speedruns in full framerate (and in certain cases, resolution) on anything other than high level (think iPhone class) devices.

old phones used 3gp (video h263 - audio amr/mp3). I think newer phones should use MP4. The mobile version of Youtube works with streaming only.
