Once the game got going it actually went pretty fast (only took a few hours to do), and it didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would. It ended up being shorter than my Super Bomberman 2 movie, although I still like that much more than this.
Super Bomberman is a game where you control a guy that has an infinite supply of bombs that explode in 4 directions (and are just as dangerous to you as they are to your enemies). In it, you either try to kill other bomber-guys in the battle mode, or you progress through an adventure mode possibly with another player's cooperation. Most people prefer the multiplayer battle mode, but that gets pretty boring if you have less than 3 people - for 1 or 2 people, the adventure mode tends to offer more fun. The goal of the adventure mode is to beat each level, which requires killing all the monsters, finding the exit under a block, and going into the exit (with at least one player).
Note that I had to be very careful never to hit the exit with an explosion, because that causes new and temporarily invincible monsters to spawn.
Because each level starts with a decently long period of invincibility, the optimal thing to do is the really cheap thing to do: lay down tons of bombs and walk around the level as a giant chain-reaction explosion before the invincibility runs out. While cheap, it works wonders and fills the screen with explosions, so I abused it as much as possible in every single level. When not invincible, a single hit from any explosion or contact with any monster means instant death AND loss of most powerups collected.
There was surprisingly little manipulation of randomness possible, with powerups or anything else in the game. Waiting a couple extra frames before pressing Start at the title screen was the only luck manipulation purposely done.
There are some awkward waits in the first few levels that are used to make sure both players get the right power-ups. For instance, one player really needs a fire power-up, but the other player is closer to it and has to stop what he's doing to prevent destroying the powerup until the other player gets there. That doesn't happen very much, though, and the main levels become really short once both players have a decent amount of powerups. The power-up distribution of some things are pretty uneven until I get far enough to find two of everything, so player 2 becomes much more powerful for a while, then Player 1 suddenly surpasses him, and they end up about even.
There wasn't much I could do with some of the boss fights, sorry about that.
About lag: The game is pretty good about not lagging, so I generally ignored it if explosions caused a little lag. Most of the time I avoided really excessive amounts of explosions to somewhat minimize lag, though.
Making the movie: I did this mostly at 100% speed with pauses and some sections of frame advance (like usual - I only rarely use slow-motion). I used a keyboard with both controllers crammed into the main keys. I used the emulator's auto-hold and auto-fire heavily, so I only directly controlled one character at a time (or sometimes neither).
I'll add more details if anyone has questions; right now I'm too tired to note all the specific things someone might wonder abou

mmbossman: Rejecting for being slower than the published movie.

I guess it won't be much of a surprise as to what made you two minutes slower than this four year old publication, which aimed for the same goals as your submission. Not using tools given to you is not a means of displaying your skill, but a good way for a submission to end up in gruefood. Read our rules and guidelines, otherwise you will be bound to repeat your mistake again.

This is what, the 10th+ submission in the last month from someone with zero posts, without reading the rules? Valsso with 2 SMB hacks, 3 from GTimekiller who ended every movie at the credits end? 2 SMB64 crap from sonicmason 2 from Arykado and dantybelmont, which were useless. 3 from charles1q2w, which were possibly just trolling. Wow, I may even be forgetting some?

This submission copies most of its submission text from nitsuja's run. I'm guessing this is because the submitter doesn't know English very well (as seen by "Manipula lock" at the top, which is not in nitsuja's comments). Most of that text doesn't apply, though, since nitsuja did a 2p run. These are the questions I have: 1. Is a 1p run worth watching over a 2p run? My guess is that it's not. 2. Is this good quality? It has a really low rerecord amount compared to nitsuja's run. 3. Is the site getting spammed by automated submissions? I haven't submitted a movie, so I don't know if there's anything like a CAPTCHA that people have to pass.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

OH. I only noticed that now. >_> I guess that renders my previous post partly invalid.

i don't think it's a bot, but more a single uber troll ( speech sound familiar...) no, what should be done with the submision is that lurkers cannot submits movies or have like 5-10 post to be able to submit, it might not stop trolls but at least it will slow them down and force user to acctualy interact with us before submiting ( would work as a kind of filter...)

Nicos' idea seems reasonable. Giving these submitters the benefit of the doubt that they're sincere, if they actually posted about their works in the relevant game threads before submitting (and then incorporated feedback), they probably wouldn't get gruefooded nearly so often.

well it is to remember that the first " lurkers can't vote" was instored after a runner created a lot of fake acount to get his run accepted ( i can't remember if it was the same one that pm'ed everybody asking for yes votes...) as the same case is presented with submitions, the same rule should be enough to solve the problem...

I was going to reject this outright, but as it's one player and not two, I'll let it ride for a little while. In regards to post count at X posts in order to submit, people didn't seem to like the idea when I suggested the same thing a week ago.

I'd say that thread was 50/50 for/against. It really isn't THAT big of a problem. Plus, the site controllers are pretty bogged down just keeping the (new) site running. If this trend of craptacular movies continues, it may be worth the effort to change the rules and code. That decision is not up to me, or anyone short of adelikat and Nach. Although, I had a few movies canceled or rejected before I became good enough to submit publishable TASes. Maybe this is just the inherent learning curve to TAS publishing. A simple copy/paste of the rules link when rejecting the movies may help slow the amount of repeat offenders. Also, address the fact that 'Being new doesn't mean that your movie is given special treatment.'

it would be enough if it was random guys coming here but it seems that we are in a case where someone is actualy deliberatly posting fake submitions so in that case the simple copy paste is not realy enough...

Hum did someone even watch the movie ? No one seems to vote on this. Shouldn't you see the movie before ? I can't watch it now, but if at least there was some no vote before rejecting a submission...

This was a little tricky to get going, but it eventually did work. If it starts level 1 with Bomberman walking into an alcove at the top of the screen, just go to the movie options and select the movie to play again. This movie is speedup-safe once it's going right. As for my thoughts on it, it should be worth publishing. No reason to punish the TASer for faults in the emulator, in my opinion. The AVI should end up being available to those who can't figure out the movie file quirk.
