There has not been any submission of any Indiana Jones games on TASVideos so far. I hope you can enjoy this first one (for nitpickers, yes, actually a second one).
This is a 887 frame (14.78 seconds) improvement to previous run. Truncated's trick saved 13.10 in 2nd level, in 3rd level I had better luck with flames and saved 1.45. I gained 2 frames in 4th level and 2 frames in 5th level.
Movie features:
  • Emulator used: Gens 11a
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses death to replenish health
GENERAL INFO ABOUT THE GAME
00FF94CB - Memory address of bosses
  • Punch does 2 damage
  • You can jump on enemies face for 2 damage without getting yourself harmed
  • This is so slow method it isn't used at all (intentionally)
  • Whip damage = equal to whips in low right
  • Whip reload time is about 8.5 seconds
  • Enemies have 6hp
  • Nazis have 7hp (level 4)
  • spikes have 7hp (level 1 only)
Falling: Lose 1 hp every 16 frames
At the end of level energy bar (10) = 6 frames penalty (except for zero energy I have at the end of first level is considered having 1 energy)

The Cross of Coronado:

0:20 - Here we have to drop down and lose 4 hp
0:23 - Another inevitable losing of 1 hp
0:39 - This guy doesn't allow us just to jump to rope so we have to teach him a lesson
1:00 - We have to jump to activate falling rocks and the guy denies jumping straight to rope again
1:37 - It's vital to have 2 hp left here since you hit your head to roof and lose 1 hp

Escape on Train Top

On top of a train, in addition of baddies, giraffes and holes on top of some cars, you have to watch out for poles of different height.
2:07 - Enemies have short invincibility time when damaged and you can go through their hitbox
2:09 - Looks sloppy but I take damage so I can go through enemy and I restore health anyway
2:11 - I have to wait a little before jumping to prevent hitting Indy's head to the ceiling of tunnel
2:15 - On your fourth jump on top of trapdoor you get through and teleport 4 cars ahead (Thanks for Truncated!)
At the end of level I have 2 HP left. It's difficult to lose only one HP in this level but sometimes it's possible.

Entering the Catacombs

Flames dropping from ceiling appear depending on your position at certain moment.
They are quite difficult to manipulate, but I didn't have to wait for too long.
3:09 - 27-frame-wait
3:27 - Intentional death at checkpoint. It takes 3.5 seconds to recover. Having more health allows more aggressive advancing
3:41 - Hitting head on ceiling loses 1 hp and gives us 7 frames at the end

The Ascent of Castle Brunwald

4:45 - Indy tries to mimic Mario jumping on a bullet, fails and gets hurt but allows us to take shorter route with this little trick
4:54 - I climb 5 frames higher than necessary to jump over moving sphere of light (saved 22 frames)
5:06 - Intentional damage which saves us 12 frames at the end of level
The boss can only be harmed by hitting his back. Getting hit by boss takes 4 health and I tried to go through him with 6 hp but got hit twice.
After the boss is killed you have to move to dodge the lightning. Not really a hand-shake for fight well done from programmers to players :(

The Holy Grail

Here Indy is in risk of being decapitated and de-footed but the viewers of this run are in greatest danger, being bored to death.
6:26 - I'm jumping because some blocks let Indy fall through them
6:43 - Holy Grail choosing screen (picture below) doesn't show up if it's taken too fast

It's only needed to press one frame right and C for one frame to choose the correct one

Final words

Thanks for Truncated for secret passage in second level! And of course thanks for Genesis audience for voting for submissions.

Truncated: Setting this to accepted. Response was nice for last submission and this one is even better.
Flygon: Encoding, this will take a very long time though. If someone else can encode it inside the 4 to 1 ratio and still look decent, I'll publish that instead.
Flygon: Thanks to Raiscan, this encode looks spiffing! It took forever to encode, but who is complaining. Publication is under way, I'm just waiting for it to finish getting onto the Archive and DailyMotion.
Flygon: Replaced torrent and DailyMotion link with correct encode, still waiting for Archive.org to upload (DailyMotion is still uploading, but the link is created pre-upload).
Flygon: Everything is replaced, I can finally encode The Jungle Book. People, please redownload the torrent.

Nice improvement! This game has a lot of variety for being so short, and it didn't really get a chance to get boring. The health management looked difficult for sure. Yes vote.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

I'm assuming you mean seconds and milliseconds, not minutes and seconds. This should be written as 14.37 not 14:37. I got so confused reading this.

I had some issues getting to the submission file, had to copy/paste the URL to get past a Bad Referrer error. Haven't watched the thing yet, but now that I have it I'll post again once I have. edit, addendum: Okay, having watched it, solid, interesting run. Early on I thought it was strangely similar to the C64 game of the same name, but midway through stage 2 I realized that's because they're made after the same material. There was also the key difference that this game looked...well...fun. Looked tight, looked good, interesting game with some interesting mechanics, used well. Thumbs up, yes vote.

Suggested screenshot compliments of Truncated. Already 100% optimized. I'll publish this when I either get around to making a decent looking encode (Probably tomorrow) or someone else makes a good enough encode that fits in the 4 to 1 restriction... otherwise I'd just publish Aktan's encode, which from past experience, manages to get past many of this games codec poisoning experiences. Just a note that if you go by standard mechanisms, the castle level will need a bitrate between 1500 to 3000 to look decent, as well as the fact this game has plenty of levels with parallax scrolling... which is part of the reason I am afraid to encode this game. =P

Flygooooon! I just watched the MKV file and it's the older, longer version which didn't have Truncated's secret trapdoor trick. Could you encode this again?

Are you able to double check? Excuse me for being skeptical, but uh, lets just say that this sort of thing is at the bottom of my pile right now, I have publication under way speedruns that I need to encode first. >_< However, unless someone 'fixes' this for me (Which I'd be most grateful for), this will be on the bottom of my todo list. I'm sorry. Lets just say that The Jungle Book is a book that just can't be written faster then 2 frames a second. ...nor is Indiana Jones.

Fixing an erroneous publication should have higher priority than new encodes.

Not when the new encode is currently encoding. Anyway, I have the Indiana Jones encode ready to encode. ...I'll just run it at the same time as Jungle Book, sure, I'll get a performance hit, but, whatever. Edit: This is going to take a while.

If you're doing an encode that's 'publication underway' then there's no rush; it's not on the main site/front page yet so it'll be fine. On the other hand, if there is a published movie that has a problematic/incorrect encode then it is a big problem; This is something that a large number of people are going to download and might not even notice the problem. If you don't want to waste your time by cancelling another encode, you can go into task manager and set its (x264's) priority to 'idle'. Then when you start a new instance of x264 the other one will just sit there. I'll provide a picture later when I'm on a Windows PC.

No need. They're both encoding simultaneously, at a steady 1.2fps each in fact. Except results in 12 hours. I have also put a warning in the publication text, and currently point towards Aktan's encode.

Indiana really aims for the cock in this one. I guess that's what they get for sporting mullets.
