Based on the famous animated movie, Walt Disney's The Jungle Book is a platform game where you control Mowgli, the boy who was raised by wild animals deep in the jungles. Your goal is to find the human village so you may you join your kin once again.
Mowgli is an athletic individual, and can jump, run, swing on vines or climb them without any problems. Most of the animals he comes upon, however, are inexplicably hostile, so he must defend himself with a variety of thrown weapons, such as bananas and boomerangs.
To complete each level, Mowgli must collect a number of gems (how many - it depends on the difficulty levels) within a time limit.
I'm glad that we have to play on hardest difficulty on this site, choosing which 12 out of 15 gems to collect is a lot easier than 10 or 8 gems. The route selection was still the most time consuming part of this run. Lag played also a role in some levels but it wasn't too bad. New tricks found just before finishing the game made me restart almost from the beginning, twice! So, the frame count should be at least two times higher but isn't because I wanted to save some time with hex-editing.
Movie features:
  • Emulator used: Gens 11a
  • Takes damage to save time
TRICKS:
  • Shoot a projectile within 32 frames of jumping not to get stunned after a high fall. (16-20 frames)
  • Hit enemies on higher ground to bounce up faster
  • Use stones and boomerangs before double bananas to boost it's power from 4 to 14
3:18 - It's faster to dive into river than catch fuits Baloo begins to throw
4:51 - Upper monkeys take damage before they even appear
5:34 - I get one lag frame dropping the monkey but it's more fun
BOSS HP ADDRESSES
00FF7FF5 - Kaa, Monkey 1, Shere Khan
00FF80A9 - Monkey 2
00FF804F - Monkey 3
00FF8103 - King Louie

mmbossman: This looks like a dull game to play, but it makes a very nice TAS with great platforming action. A short and fun watch; accepting.
Flygon: Encoding, this will take a while, the game isn't encoding friendly at all.
Flygon: I am passing this encode to someone else for now, I am having major issues trying to encode this and Jones at once.
Flygon: Indiana is out of the way, encoding this now.

Wow, this game looks like not a lot of effort was put into making it... As for the TAS, the routes look well planned (so that collecting the necessary gems is all done basically on the way to the final destination), the movement looks optimized, and the bosses go down quickly. I have to say, though, that despite all this, it wasn't particularly entertaining to watch. Weak yes bordering on meh.

I got a desync almost immediately on this movie. First time I've used 11a, though; any settings I need to tweak to get this to play correctly?

make sure you're using the correct ROM version.

I'm having the same problem Priam is, though I did also manage to watch the DailyMotion encode (thanks Aktan!). I actually really liked this game, largely because there seemed to be a lot going on at any given moment. I had trouble keeping up with watching the character at first. It's a little repetitive, but I believe the run is definitely worth a Yes vote.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I was entertained. I liked the play around movements when you got the chance, and the routes were obviously well thought out.

Voted yes for publishing. Fast paced, non-trivial route planning, blink of an eye bosses -- good game choice and very nice execution.

Watched the encode. This is one of those games where you always have the sneaking suspicion that there is at least one gem skipped that is closer to the route than another collected gem. I can't really back it up, but it's a condition of these collect-to-go types of games. Other than that, things were fairly fast. This game really lacks a lot of entertainment, even with the action and pacing. I have to give this a Meh leaning fairly close to Yes. It's just not the best game choice, personally.

Optimized suggested screenshot. Who else thinks the screenshot is good enough? If others think it is good, I'll set it under publication underway. Edit: I am sorry this publication is taking so long, I am an idiot and attempted to write Indiana Jones and this movie into the same file.

Nice screenshot! However, I'd suggest that the quote by theenglishman not end up in the description. The quote already seems to put down the movie before you watch it. How about taking the main paragraph you have and adding the sentence: "In each stage, Mowgli must obtain 12 of the red jewels before getting to the end, where he fights a boss or wakes up his sleeping panther friend Bagheera."

Changed the description. You know, I feel rather silly. Almost every movie based game that ends up being published I have either not watched or haven't seen forever. There IS a reason I put the TODO's there editors! Put your powers to good use!

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
