This is my first attempt at tasing 2 players, well, all i can say its hard
This could be called a well optimized test run, it doesnt lack efforts, but the improvements are going to be hard to obtain and likely not very significiant to the final time
If this get the public attention, me and adelikat are considering doing a more refined work toward it, as a team submision
On the quality matter i want to mention that adelikat didnt finded a way to beat my stage1, can arguably say he didnt tryed to deploy all his tasing powers against it, but pretty much to say this is yet good quality and not just shitty test run
While doing this i learned that a 2 players TAS need a lot of attention, overall i think its not bad run, it is improvable tought, maybe

Notes


This is the famous NES games revisited on PC Engine system. A lots of change, yet it will feel very familliar too.
First the graphics engine was totaly changed, it seem to be the precedent of Super Double Dragon on SNES, having fairly similar bigger sprites.
The music are like all PCE CD games a complete instrumental soundtrack, the game also feature manga in between stages (skipped in this TAS)
For the rest, the control of bimmy and jimmy are intact, noticable change would be that the flying knee doesnt anymore toss you over the whole screen (and doesnt do anymore that wicked sfx sadly), double flying knee doesnt work either
I founded only 1 handy glitch (pretty crazy one tought), in stage4, i do pickup a grenade apparently at the exact moment the game doesnt like, as a result, the next ennemy spawn at the grenade location, bimmy is then litteraly having a ennemy in his hand, the idea is that trought this i can kill him faster than if he would have spawn in his original location, by killing bimmy... since in that case they both die in the process (that was messy to explain!)
A hacky LUA is available here, it does a bunch of stuff, this revision does count all kills up to stage5, so it can be used to watch until that point, yet, the hitbox are bad and not always working, i have more refined version for hitbox but it only work in stage1, i will try to fix it as much as i can but due to the hacky conception of this script, i might fail at it

I watched this run some time ago when it was made. We planned on making a v2 to improve but that never happened. However, I hope that doesn't give the impression that this is some test run quality submission. In fact, I know of no particular improvements to be made. I find the run entertaining, and more than sufficiently different from the NES to warrant its own publication. Also, I can never get enough of players beating themselves up for the common goal of getting to point B quickly ^^ I vote yes.

I watched adelikat's run of the NES version prior to watching this to serve as a basis for comparison of level of optimisation. The games are sufficiently different that I don't think such a comparison is possible. There are a few points where it doesn't look like you hit enemies as soon as possible, but those are rare enough that this is, in my opinion, worth publishing. For the two reasons that this is substantially different than the NES version and of reasonable quality, I vote yes.

The NES version was VERY different from the arcade original, whereas this PCE version is much closer to the arcade. Oddly, both the NES and PCE versions are better and more fun (IMO), in their own ways, than the arcade. The later GBA port owes a lot to the PCE version, I think. Can't wait for an encode.

There is a typo in the ending credits, someone was high and they writted "Double Doragon 2" I did putted that typo just for fun factor until someone correct it (didnt took long apparently lol) I hope there will be an encode soon, Aktan is working on the matter

Thanks for the encode, Aktan! I enjoyed the run, but the last bossfight looked kinda weird. Why was it useful to kill off Bimmy during that fight?

It wasnt usefull, the boss is very hard to hit, he keep jumping around like a retard (while invisible) and i wasnt able to hit him with both character, or at least damage didnt register for both, he have ridiculously high invulnerability timers. Edit: added youtube Edit2: another remark, bimmy is low hp because jimmy kick him before the boss fight (the bar is shit dont look too much at it), and he die simply because i dont control him much and dont avoid boss damage, probably a lack of creativity here, i can agree, this game was a nightmare to tas for me as its my first time with 2players, also, dont mind much my bad explanation on the bug, ill have to fix latter the text (and of the many other submissions i have lol)

Thanks Aktan! This version of the game actually feels pretty similar to the NES one. Certainly the fighting is different, and there are a few differences in the stages, but everything is largely a reordering of the stages in the NES version (or is the NES version largely a reordering of this?). The character jumping, with so many knees, makes me think they are Riverdancing while kicking ass. In fact, I wonder if the music of the game would be better as Riverdance; I didn't like this version of the soundtrack too much. (In fact, I don't really feel like this game offers that much new compared to the NES version, so I'm not sure there should be a run on each version.) The run looks pretty solid. You do an awesome job getting the two characters in the action pretty much constantly. However, it gets repetitive from all the use of flying knees. Furthermore, a lot of the time, enemies are down on the ground, waiting to get up and get hit by a knee again. It seems like it should be faster to have one character use standing attacks to soften up the enemy before the other knees them (you do this on the Mission 7 boss and some enemies in Mission 8). In short, I think this is good, but I get the feeling there's room for improvement (though I imagine it won't be easy to find improvements).
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... The stage layouts are the same. But the biggest difference I noticed was that this game had one chopper in the second stage while the NES version had two. Just in case this gets published, I'll vote yes on this one. If it looks improvable and you want a faster run, go for it! ^_^

Yeah, it's really repetitive. Still, I think that and the uppercut are the only good attacks to use in 99% of the instances. I stopped watching after the halfway mark when I realized that it was going to be so similar to the NES run. It's not a bad run by any means, but there were a few spots that made me scratch my head, e.g at ~5;33, couldn't you lure the enemy to the left a bit and knock him off the cliff in one knee? All in all, it's a Meh leaning towards Yes. Two players independent would be cool, since at least the characters would do more than seemingly jump in stereo.
