Completed without collecting any emeralds, with Sonic alone.
I got hit a few times throughout the game:
Marble Garden 1 - Spikeball was in the way and I didn't want to wait for it to move.
Launch Base 1 - Needed to lose the Lightning Shield to beat the boss faster.
Sandopolis 2 - Let a ghost hit me so I could land on top of a rock without breaking it. The extra height makes it possible to reach the platform above by bouncing off the ring boxes, avoiding a really long wait for the sand to catch up.
This was mostly recorded at 6% speed so I could perform spindashes at full power in the shortest time possible, and so that jumps could be timed perfectly to gain the most height and/or speed. On many occasions I tried each jump several times, timing it a frame or so earlier or later just to find the optimal position :)
I can't see this run being improved by much without some additional shortcuts being found and used...
There's not much else to say, except that 118631 is a very big number :P

"Very well done" is selling this movie short. It's godly and you know it.

O_O' 118k very-well-used rerecords. I dare say Sonic himself would be shocked 'n' awed by the sheer PWNage of this video...

wow. this movie was so fast it gave me a headache and made me feel sick (i suffer a bit from motion sickness on some occasions) all those rerecords were worth it. i'm sure someone could shave 1 second or so off but i REALLY doubt anyone would spend the time and effort just to improve that little. damn damn good run. watch it.

50 minutes... high motion... Unless someone wants a 250 MB avi file, this isn't going to make it as AVI...

Shouldn't this be unstarred, not that it's been obseleted?

Nah. The movie's still awesome, which is why it got the star in the first place. It's just that now, there's an even faster movie which also warrants a star.

Forgive the ultrabump. I lost all my Genesis-related stuff in a rootkit-related format, so I wanted to get the encode of this run, but the page says the AVI is unavailable via bittorrent, as does the 45:55.82 version that obsoleted this one. Is there any way to get a hold of this or that movie? I wanted to watch a glitchless/less glitchy version.

Well, the movie file is linked, so you can play it for yourself through Gens, if you want.

Actually, its pretty safe as long as you don't go on a ROM site that doubles as a Russian porn site. Very late edit: My god... I actually wrote this post?

I am now a Movie Editor thanks to Sgrunt. I added a link to archive.org for this movie: http://www.archive.org/download/knsonic3-tas-sprintgod/knsonic3-tas-sprintgod.mkv The new encode is slightly smaller than the old one. You can click here to get a streaming video instead: http://www.archive.org/details/knsonic3-tas-sprintgod (not processed yet at the time of this post so wait). This run looks highly unoptimized by today's standards, but some people (as appears by the Daniel post above) might prefer it because it actually plays most of the game without many glitches.

Oh, cool. I was looking for a video of this a couple of weeks ago. Thanks.

Thank you very much for encoding this, Noob Irdoh. It's a pleasant change from the standard "walls? What walls?" that we see in more modern TASes of this game.

I also agree, it'd be interesting to see a completely optimized edition of a TAS that doesn't glitch the hell out of the game... basically, a standard run-through. Either way, I Dailymotioned it, for anyone interested. It broke.
