I just wonder what policy there should be for games that need to be installed before playing. I am talking of installations that takes a noticeable amount of time. Things like copying files from multiple floppies to copying a few cds worth of content.

Does the game need to be installed every time it's used? I think the ideal situation is to begin the movie from the poweron of the system where the game is already installed.

Most would not need to be installed more than once. But some games apparently don't do full installs and need to have the installs in the middle of the game.

Such as? I don't think I've ever played a game that had more than one installation sequence.

Apparently some of the newer metal gear games does this. I don't know the details.

I can't speak for the PSP titles, but MGS 4 requires separate installations for all five Acts; the installations are of varying sizes, up to 4GB, but none of them take more than about 3 minutes to do.

That would probably be Metal Gear Solid 4. I've heard that it continues to install cinematics and other stuff on the PS3 HDD while playing to ensure it runs smoothly and to minimize the waiting time when installing it for the first time. Or something, not sure at all. EDIT: boct knew better than me.
