I am a new TASer from China.I am good at making TAS of SMB1 and SMB1 Hacks and I like high-difficulty hacks.I made a TAS for Hard Relay Mario: http://f12.aaa.livedoor.jp/~hageo/mario/relay/ http://nightbug.net/game/index.php?%A5%DE%A5%EA%A5%AA%2F%B2%FE%C2%A4%A5%DE%A5%EA%A5%AA%B9%E7%C6%B1%C0%BD%BA%EE Here's the fcm file: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/316799608/HardRelayMario-TAS-Mars.fcm I hope you will like it.

Hard Relay Mario has been submitted before, and was rejected because the extreme difficulty isn't entertaining consistently enough. Plus, your run isn't even as fast as mushroom's first submission of HRM (I linked the second one.)

Oh, boct1584, have you even watched the movie?! Mushroom's HRM TASv3 ends up world 1 at frame 35809, Mars608's movie ends up world 1 at frame 31070, and it includes world 2,3,4. It is obviously a great run!

I have just watched Mushroom's HRM TASv3.It is much slower than mine.Even my TAS isn't very fast, but for me,a new TASer,it is fast enough, isn't it?

Actually, no I hadn't watched it; no computer with emulators to watch it on. My bad.

Here's one of my my latest projects, a Hard Relay Mario speedrun. This is definitely one of the most challenging tasks in the world, and especially for stage 1-A. I hope that I can finish it to 4-1 in this year. Here's the first WIP of the project, where stage 1-4's just finished. It's pretty closed to the limit as I see it, and it beats Mushroom's runs pretty hard (3843 frames already). http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/927061085/HappyLee_TAS_HRM_WIP1-5.fcm Have fun watching, and don't forget to bring comments, thank you.

It's not really a playaround, because the author Mushroom was clearly thinking about how to complete the level quickly, although it's not strictly aiming for the fastest time, which requires lots of techniques and TASing skills. Actually, this run does not compete with Mushroom's run, it's mainly an improvement to Mars's HRM speedrun, which is much less known here than Mushroom's run.

Well. Seems that the Hard Relay Mario speedrun is not well-received?! Some of you seem to think of all sorts of ideas to complete SMB in various ways, like maximum coins, minimum inputs, etc. However, almost all techniques shown in these movies can be found in the SMB warpless & SMB warpless+walkathon TAS. What should we show others about Super Mario Bros.? This ROM hack, Hard Relay Mario really can help. (But the run for the hack AIR2 should have been rejected as it shows nothing.) The design of Hard Relay Mario is great, and a great TAS on this hack can be produced, as there are lots of new techniques we can perform in Hard Relay Mario. You guys would argue about the lack of entertainment during the time waiting for the Koopa to come out of its shell and walk... yet you guys would definitely not say 'no' to the Lagrange Point speedrun(in that run, 4 party members spend a lot more time upgrading)? PS: I hate sarcasm. In fact, Happylee and Mars608 has been doing way better than you guys expect. PS#2: Is a thread necromancy considered inappropriate in this forum?

HappyLee, you make great SMB runs, and it seems like you used to have a great sense of humor and fun, too. But recently you seem to have gotten quite egotistical, and begun to belittle the accomplishments of others and trumpet your own. It makes me sad, because I used to be proud to be a huge HappyLee fan. I wish you would realize that your work speaks for itself, and that the success of others does not diminish yours in any way. It doesn't look so good when you go around saying that you're tackling "one of the hardest tasks in the world", and that you beat someone else "pretty hard", when you're not even directly competing with them. Just show us your great TAS! Tell us about the technical challenges you overcame, and we will be very eager to listen!

Thank you Personman for telling me that. I hate to be egotistical or something, and I don't think that I trumpet my work a lot. But I did seem to be a little too picky about the TASes here recently, because I simply don't see them worthwhile for publications on this site. If you check out our Chinese SMB forum, you'll find out that I'm actually really happy for seeing so many recent good TASes produced by new Chinese TASers. But as a matter of fact, the work simply can't speak itself, for you see, there haven't been a single comment for the WIP itself till now. When submitting a WIP of Hard Relay Mario, you have to at least put on some commercials, or no one would like to watch that. It truly is "one of the hardest tasks in the world", even I think it's the craziest challenge I ever faced, but it might be inappropriate to say it here. And I really shouldn't say this run beat someone else "pretty hard", I wasn't meaning that way, I just want to find a comparable movie to tell how much faster is my movie. I'm sorry, and thanks for pointing those out. There are technical challenges more than anyone could imagine, but unfortunately I cannot introduce them well in English, because it includes lots of glitches haven't shown in other movies yet.

Thank you for listening! Perhaps I am taking your words in the wrong light. Your English has gotten so much better, I'm probably starting to forget to think about the fact that you aren't a native speaker :) I'm still pretty upset about how angry you seem to be at Brandon's TAS, but I'm really glad you are able to take criticism maturely. We'll probably never agree on everything, but I wish you all the best - don't take my other post in the Minimum Input thread too hard ^_^

Thanks, I don't mind at all. I'd like to hear criticism as long as it's friendly or helpful. By the way, did anyone really see my WIP? I would really like to see comments for that.

I'm having trouble finding the ROM on that Chinese-language site that Mars linked to (and the first link seems to be broken). One of the links on the second page pointed to "hrm.zip", but it just redirected me to another page I didn't understand. Can you explain how I can find the ROM, or post an encode?

Those two sites are actually Japanese, which I have trouble understanding them, too. But it's certain that they are both broken. Here's an Youku encode just for a quick watching: http://player.youku.com/player.php/sid/XMzc1NzEwNTQ4/v.swf I'll try and find other places of this Hack. Edit: Oh, I've found one: http://smbhacks.110mb.com/

Within the last 2 years, some changes have taken place. The original websites, aaacafe and infoseek have suspended(?) their services. Try this link on my website: http://w7n.bob.buttobi.net/hardrelaymario.ips This is an IPS file, please patch it to the SMB ROM. The reason Happylee is angry with Brandon's movie is that it's simply dull. SMB TASers in my community has reached a consensus about that. Not that he wants to hold all records of SMB, since it's highly possible that he will break that record if the movie is published. Happylee said the run beats the old run 'pretty hard' because so it does. I have watched that video. A lot of improvements were found and used in that video. If you want to watch it, try: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMzc1NzEwNTQ4.html (Can you get access to this site?) I'll show some of the techniques in the new video. Wall jumps, and the tricky infinite wall jumps are common. One is required to go through walls in many ways, including some really tough situations like a place with little room to accelerate, to complete the level. In World 1-4, one needs to adjust his position to let the Piranha plants rise at a certain time(notice, when they disappear they don't actually disappear, they can still hurt you). Mario's jumping properties state(?) has to be controlled well to perform certain jumps, like the fast way dealing with the spring in 1-4, the shortcut in 1-8(not shown, but already proven possible). For example, normally the jumping properties state is determined by Mario's speed, but if after a certain point, you don't press left or right, and only stays on the ground for one frame every time, Mario will maintain his state at that point. That's how we get the shortcut in 1-8. PS: Ignore the words below... (Mars是没理解'Congratulations'一词的含义么......您之前说For a new TASer it's fast enough, 但是这里是TASVideos, 追求最速视频的地方, 您就算解释了快多少帧还是不免会被别人挑刺......)

I'm not really angry with Brandon's movie (well Mars seemed a lot angrier than I did). I was just arguing about whether it should be published on this site.
