After three edits, I think it's fair to make a double post. Level 8 (Microstorage isn't working for me currently, so right-click, Save File As). In this, I saved 860 frames from Mysterypea's version. The second I saw that there was only two rerecords was the second I knew I'd find a huge improvement. :\ On a side note, I've been trying to improve 2, 5, and 7 for a while now, and I simply can't seem to do it. I welcome anyone to beat any of my times. Edit: Up to level 10. Saved 975 from level 9 and 292 from level 10. I'm going to really enjoy constructing a table of the comparisons between my run and Mysterypea's, though I'm sure my TAS's optimality will be questioned in time as well. Edit 2: Up to Level 12. Improved Level 11 by 520 frames and Level 12 by 200 frames. Edit 3: Up to Level 15 (Again, Microstorage issues). Saved 932 from level 13, 144 from level 14, and 396 from level 15. As I'm 1/4 the way through, I'll be uploading a dump on YouTube shortly.

Up to Level 20. From levels 16-20, I saved 50, 156, 161, 110, and 830 frames respectively. Edit: Update. I edited in many stylistic changes, initially improving my score by 2000 points. Then, I realized I could trim off 69 frames from Level 20, but it cost me 600 of my 2000 points. Obviously, I wasn't going to trade frames for points, so in summation, this update removes 69 frames while adding 1400 points. I hope you like all of the things I did with the gloves! Edit 2: Another 5 level update. From levels 21-25, I saved 244, 169, 496, 140, and 49 frames respectively from Mysterypea's version. Also, I added 100 points to Level 8. Edit 3: Level 26. I'm uploading this early because it's probably my favorite level so far, considering I managed to get some dancing in without losing time. Saved 371 frames from Mysterypea's version. Edit 4: Up to Level 30. From levels 27-30, I saved 4, 320, 128, and 34 frames respectively from Mysterypea's version. Some additional notes:
  • No, I will not be doing the bonus levels unless it results in a faster completion time. I severely doubt it will from what I can see. Please correct me if you have suggestions.
  • I seem to understand Daffy's mechanics more than I did previously. I will review my levels with him shortly.
  • As I learned from Level 28, it's not that you can't use gloves while moving leftward; you can't use gloves while pressing left. As such, there might be some stylistic improvements I can add now.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't find the optimal path for Level 30. I kind of rushed it, but I am happy to at least improve each level of Mysterypea's.
These past 5 levels were probably the most entertaining and interesting ones so far. I still think this is a worthwhile TAS, and I will do whatever I can to make this interesting enough so that the judges will agree with me. I'd appreciate some feedback at this stage, as after I look over all the items listed above, I'll be uploading another YouTube video. I hope you enjoy! Edit 5: Revised. Link to video Please let me know what you think. Edit: Up to Level 35. From levels 31-33, I saved 28, 296, and 109 frames respectively. That concludes my work with Mysterypea's WIP. In addition, I added 2 other levels. I will attempt to do 5 levels a day until this is complete. So, if I stick to that schedule, I will be done by next Tuesday! Edit 2: Level 36. Can't imagine how to improve on this one, even if it uses a very small stall. Didn't manage to find the time to do 5 levels today, but tomorrow's my last final, so I should be working on this full force afterward. Edit 3: Level 37. Tried a few paths, and this seems to be the most optimal. Hopefully, my TAS priorities will fall into place soon, and I will have enough time to get 5 levels done a day like I said I would. Edit 4: Levels 38-45. Please, please give me some feedback before I make the 75% completion video. I must have slipped up somewhere, and I could really use some criticism for this. Edit 5: An improvement of 198 frames and 500 points. Dumping and uploading...

Rough Draft. Currently at 41:18.98. Probably can be improved. Definitely can have some more style / input display fun. I will also start adding soft subs and creating the submission text. Feedback greatly appreciated.

Then you'll sure be might surprised when you see I've shaved no less than 10 seconds from the final product. I'll be satisfied if I can get it under 41 minutes, ecstatic if I can get it under 40. Edit: Reviewed the first 50% and trimmed over 24 seconds. The current time is 40:56.90. I don't believe I'll be able to make it under 40 minutes.

I'm planning on doing a run of the Secret Levels. I finished the first level, though I'm betting it's not optimal. You can find it on my TAS repository on Google Code, which you can find on my homepage. Edit: My first run of this came out to be 3:19:37. I bet I can improve it if I put more thought into it, but a lot of other things came about at the same time, so this is far from a priority. See the latest version in my repo. Edit 2: [1845] NES The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle "Special Levels" by Brandon in 04:15.38. If anyone's wondering what's up with the change of time, I must have miscalculated it earlier. This is actually an improvement of about 15 seconds from my first draft.

NitroGenesis realized that 1 frame could be saved per level by pressing A instead of Start. He also showed that you can kill the Grey Sylvester in S2 of the Special Levels. I'd modify the existing the runs to include this fix if people thought it was worth it, but I see no reason to create a new submission just for this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry for the quintuple bump, but I got the idea of possibly rerunning this with the 60 frame improvement while trying to find further improvements. In order to avoid wasting my time if nothing additional is found, I'm thinking I could TAS Pinball simultaneously as an Easter Egg. As both games have very simple controls that don't really clash, and that I doubt we will ever have a max score Pinball run on the grounds that it'd probably be incredibly repetitive, I think this could be a cool idea. Any thoughts?

I had a crazy idea: I should make a TAS this game optimally while simultaneously beating several games in a row. I would run the input on all of the games at once, but I would only focus on one at a time. As I complete the first game, I navigate the second game to the title screen (Using death or whatever necessary), then I play that one, and this continues until I have finished Crazy Castle. Learning how to encode this would also be pretty interesting. The only question that remains, then, is what games should I complete? Any suggestions?

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Well, my thought process is that this run wasn't particularly well-received entertainment-wise, but is still technically impressive. At the same time, the number of input combinations that would complete this run in the same amount of time is enormous, so I figure that I could use this run as an excuse to TAS games not worthy of a TAS or that don't have a finite end, but are still entertaining to watch. I like your classic game list, and those would probably all be good candidates, but I wouldn't disqualify the 2-Player idea. Any reason we didn't also include Pac-Man, by the way?

An alright idea, but it doesn't exactly fall within the field klmz suggested. Also, the good thing about many of the games above is that the character can wrap around the screen, guaranteeing that it can be completed.
