Arc mentioned in the discussion thread of my submitted run, here, about an improvement to my run. I have tested this idea, and it should save 16 frames. I'll start on implementing this improvement. In the meantime, since there has been some discussion about the entertainment aspect of the boss fights in my run, I thought I would take this as an opportunity to discuss how the boss fights should look. So, how would you like the boss fights? Did you prefer Arc's version of them, or do you think I should keep them as they are? Perhaps you have a completely new idea for adding a little spice to the boss fights? Any other question/idea about the run are of course also welcome.

To be completely honest, I don't think there is a major difference between your and Arc's run during the waiting periods. I enjoyed your little show and I look forward to the upcoming run.

I think that two-player runs such as this one are particularly well-suited to storytelling. I like to see interesting characters with motivations to which I can relate in order to increase the entertainment value. But the story need not be the love story that I attempted to incorporate. I think that a good idea would be for the plot of the movie to be that Blue isn't supporting Red... Blue is chasing Red because Blue wants to kill Red. Blue is a bounty hunter, perhaps. At all times, the player (Randil) could have the mindset that, amid the chaos, Blue's goal is to kill Red. Thus, during the boss fights, we could see knife fights and perhaps other uses of weapons. Lots of jumping, ducking, near misses. Randil could make it look like Red is the one causing Blue to lose those lives (interpreted as needing medical assistance) before the last level. And then for the tragic, ironic finale, Blue finally closes in on Red, goes for the kill... and accidentally trips the mine, ending Blue's life. Pure Hollywood magic!

Well shit throw in some champagne and strawberry and let Randil make the characters fornicate with each other. Meh, do as you want Randil.

I actually support things Arc is talking about. I like seeing general ideas behind stylistics (like dancing to the music) as opposed to spur of the moment stuff, although that, of course, is still much better than twitching or doing things that are otherwise boring.

Thinking about that one mine in the way... I know that if there are many sprites on screen occasionally mines will not appear. Is there a way to manipulate more enemies on screen and this mine will just disappear? I'm for jumping whilst ducking kisses. And leg-kicking jumping kissing.

There doesn't seem to be any way to manipulate more enemies into the screen, at least not to my knowledge. The only way I can see this work is simply to keep all enemies alive as long as possible. I have not run into this glitch myself, but it would indeed be both interesting and save time if it worked, both on level 3 and 6. I'll look into this some more. I also find Arc's idea interesting, I'll give it a try on the first boss and see how it turns out.

I also have an idea for the stage 2 boss fight. When console speedrunning this game in the pas I had something interesting occur. I destroyed 2 jetpac guys and went to destroy the third. I accidentally lured it offscreen and the game declared me victorious. Since there were no enemies on screen for a brief time, it sent me to the next level. I'm not sure if it could save time, but I figured I'd mention it, If you could do something like lure one jetpac guy off the right side and one off the left and kill the remaining one, I think you'd be able to complete it faster. The current method is very fast though. I'm not sure if something like that can work.

I tried to do my idea of taking the lower route and avoiding the ladder: Link to video It's supposed to be 16 frames faster than climbing the ladder. But my movie ended up 23 frames slower at the start of the boss battle. So 39 frames were lost elsewhere. I see now that 27 frames are lost when the screen stops scrolling after Blue dies. And then I lost about 12 more frames because of unavoidable stops for enemies on the lower route. So it's not faster overall. Lower route FM2 link
