!!! Wiki Restructure Project

Wikified thoughts, plans, and discussions for [Forum/Topics/23197|the ongoing wiki maintenance and restructuring project]. This lists every top-level wiki page and what I think should be done with them. None of this is completely set in stone as of yet: Things that are will be moved to [HomePages/Samsara/Proposals] and more actively worked on.

Discussion below is a mixture of wiki edits and transcriptions from Discord chats. Editors, feel free to directly add your thoughts below. If you're not an Editor and would like to chime in, contact me to become one or post in the linked thread.

!! KEEP IN PLACE
* [AdminPanel]
* [ArticleIndex]
* [Awards]
* [Bizhawk]
** [user:Randomno]: Almost all emulators are a subpage of EmulatorResources. Personally I would prefer all emulators as top-level pages for ease of linking and browsing. But otherwise this "should" be a subpage.
** [user:Samsara]: I was thinking it should be kept as top-level because BizHawk is the site's flagship "product", as it were. Having other emulators subpaged under EmulatorResources makes it more clear that we're not as directly affiliated with them as we are with BizHawk. If it absolutely has to be universal, I'd sooner change everything to top-level than worry about the cavalcade of broken offsite referrals that are going to pop up by subpaging BizHawk.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: After moving most subpages' content to the GitHub repo, there won't be much left. But what is left are pages linked from important places, so while I disagree with the "flagship product" argument, I agree the page shouldn't be moved under [EmulatorResources] (without leaving a redirect behind).
* [Class]
* [ConsoleVerification]
** [user:Samsara]: This is a big thing in the TAS world, so we should probably have an official top-level page for it.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: I'm told the plan for [https://tas.bot|tas.bot] is to highlight recent and upcoming events, and to document ''historical information'' on its wiki—technical information currently living there will be moved here, including the [https://runs.tas.bot|runs.tas.bot] DB [https://github.com/TASVideos/tasvideos/issues/779|once the site is ready].
** [user:YoshiRulz]: dwango just made it
** [user:Samsara]: \o/
* [Contests]
* [Contributions]
* [EmulatorResources]
* __Emulators__
** [user:Samsara]: Not a current page, but should we have this for consistency with Games/Platforms?
** [user:feos]: I feel Emulators would be a better name than EmulatorResources but moving and relinking everything would be a pain
* [FAQ]
* [FullRecentChanges]
** [user:feos]: I'd make it a subpage of RecentChanges
* [GameResources]
** [user:YoshiRulz]: [GameResources#BySystem|Manual links] are double-redundant with the module above and subpage list below.
* [Games]
* [Glossary]
* [HomePages]
* [Judging]
* [LegacyPages]
* [Links]
** [user:Samsara]: I like what's here, but I feel like more could be done with it.
* [LiveChat]
** [user:YoshiRulz]: We could allow subcommunities to submit e.g. Discord invites to be included on an "unaffiliated TASing groups" list here. I feel that would be more helpful than the nonspecific sites on [Links].
** [user:Samsara]: I __love__ this idea.
* [MediaPosts]
* [MovieMaintenanceLog]
* [MovieRules]
* [Movies]
* [NewcomerCorner]
** [user:Samsara]: Worthwhile page to promote to new users. Should be fleshed out though!
* [NewMovies]
* [News]
* [PlatformResources]
** [user:Samsara]: Useful hub page to have. Could maybe have more general info?
** [user:feos]: I'd make it a subpage of Platforms
* [Platforms]
** [user:YoshiRulz]: Possibly off-topic—could accepted BizHawk core names and versions be added to this page? Currently, the submission rules point to [EmulatorResources], which is itself vague, and the accepted vs. not part of it feels like an afterthought.
* [Publishing]
* [RecentChanges]
* [Reviews]
** [user:Samsara]: This will be deleted once a proper reviewing system is made.
* [SandBox]
* [SiteHistory]
** [user:Samsara]: This really needs to be updated.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: Oh look, more BizHawk docs I need to keep track of. Lovely.
* [SiteLicense]
* [SiteRules]
* [Staff]
* [Submissions]
* [System]
* [TASBot]
** [user:Samsara]: we <3 tasbot
** [user:YoshiRulz]: ...but most of this is moving to [https://wiki.tas.bot/wiki/History|wiki.tas.bot] anyway.
** [user:Samsara]: doesn't stop us from <3ing tasbot
* [TASingGuide]
* [TODO]
* [Translations]
** [user:Samsara]: Keep the page for sure. Should also promote new page translations.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: Maybe come up with an order or hierarchy of which pages to translate? [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Vital_articles|Wikipedia's "Vital articles"] comes to mind.
** [user:Samsara]: This works. I feel like at some point, every single page that has a translation will be completely rewritten in English, so it's probably worth making that hierarchy and keeping it completely intact.
* [UserMaintenanceLog]
* [WelcomeToTASVideos]
* [Wiki]
----
! TRANSLATION HUB PAGES
* [DE] - German translation hub.
* [ES] - Spanish translation hub.
* [FR] - French translation hub.
* [IT] - Italian translation hub.
* [JA] - Japanese translation hub.
* [PT] - Portuguese translation hub.
* [RU] - Russian translation hub.
* [SE] - Swedish translation hub.
* [ZH-HANS] - Simplified Chinese translation hub.
* [ZH-HANT] - Traditional Chinese translation hub.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: Don't these all have hierarchies similar to the old/current base localisation, and so will need reorganising too? Also, see my comment under [Translations] above.
** [user:Samsara]: They'll need updating in ways other than being moved or reorganized, sure.
----
!! DEFINITELY KEEP, COULD BE REORGANIZED
* [ArbitraryCodeExecutionHowTo]
** [user:Samsara]: Rename to just ArbitraryCodeExecution or even ACE and give a more generalized description?
* [Commentaries]
** [user:Samsara]: Commentary module, probably useful to keep as a main.
* [EncodingGuide]
** [user:Samsara]: Leaning more towards keeping as a main page.
** [user:feos]: or maybe move those to Publishing subpages? publishing is the main goal of encoding so feels sane
** [user:Randomno]: Moving to Publishing subpage would be confusing for the aspects that aren't about publication, like Casual Encoding guide.
** [user:Samsara]: Yeah, far more people make temp encodes than publications. I'm more for keeping this as a main page just so people know they can use it for temps/casual encodes.
* [LegacyPages/FastestCompletion|FastestCompletion]
** [user:Samsara]: ---Module page---, again useful to keep as main. Delete subpages though.
** [user:Randomno]: This doesn't use any modules btw.
** [user:Samsara]: Oh, hell, I somehow managed to forget exactly what this page was while writing about it. Still makes sense to keep it.
** [user:Bigbass]: This flag no longer exists and the page has been moved to LegacyPages. Remaining subpages have been deleted.
* [GamesDoneQuick]
** [user:Samsara]: I can see this subpaged under TASBot.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: See my comment under [TASBot] above, but I'm not sure how much of this dwango wants to keep on here. With the talk of publishing the showcase runs I'd assume he'd prefer to fit them into the existing system, maybe a "showcased by TASBot" tag?
** [user:Samsara]: I can talk to him about that, but I think going forward there's generally going to be less separation between TASVideos and TASBot, so I think it's likely that stuff like this is going to stay here.
* [GamenamesEditorHowTo]
** [user:Samsara]: Should this, and...
* [GamesHowTo]
** [user:Samsara]: ...this be combined? There's a bit of overlap already.
** [user:Randomno]: The former page is an orphan, so any useful info should probably be moved to the latter.
* [Guidelines]
** [user:Samsara]: Move the current page info somewhere else and repurpose into a hub page for site/staff/contributor guidelines subpages?
** [user:feos]: what about moving it to Guidelines/TAS(ing)?
** [user:Samsara]: Could work, but we have MovieRules and SubmissionInstructions and TASingGuide already.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: A lot of the page titles are ambiguous without context :P You could use another name like CodeOfConduct for contributor guidelines.
** [user:Samsara]: CodeOfConduct implies behavior guidelines more than the kind of contributor guidelines I was thinking about, but as long as things are in places that people can reasonably expect them to be in, I'm happy.
* [MostActiveEditors]
** [user:Samsara]: Module, but maybe better belongs under a new SiteStatistics main?
** [user:Randomnno]: Probably yes. Our statistics are a bit all over the place: [HomePages/Randomno/UserStatistics].
** [user:Samsara]: You're right, this IS TASVideos.
----
! SUBPAGE FOR EASIER ORGANIZATION
* [AdminGuidelines] -> Guidelines/SiteAdmin
* [Alternative] -> Class/Alternative
* [DreamTeamContest] -> Contests/DreamTeamContest
* [EditorGuidelines] -> Guidelines/Editor
* [EncoderGuidelines] -> Guidelines/Encoder
* [Encoders] -> Contributions/Encoder
* [InputFileEditing] -> TASingGuide/InputFileEditing
** [user:Samsara]: Maybe doesn't need to be its own page, but still could be useful to categorize input file editors/information on hex editing/etc?
** [user:feos]: TASingGuide subpage?
** [user:Samsara]: Solid idea, yes. Moved to relevant section.
* [JudgeGuidelines] -> Guidelines/Judge
* [LuaScripting] -> TASingGuide/LuaScripting
* [LuckManipulation] -> TASingGuide/LuckManipulation
* [MemorySearch] -> TASingGuide/MemorySearch (or TASingGuide/RAMSearch)
* [Minimum] -> Contests/Minimum
* [ModGuidelines] -> Guidelines/Moderator
* [MovieStatistics] -> Movies/Statistics
* [MovieTagGuidelines] -> Guidelines/MovieTags
* [Playground] -> Class/Playground
* [PublisherGuidelines] -> Guidelines/Publisher
* [ReverseEngineering] -> TASingGuide/ReverseEngineering
* [RoutePlanning] -> TASingGuide/Routing
* [SiteCodingStandards] -> Guidelines/SiteDeveloper
* [Standard] -> Class/Standard
* [Stars] -> Class/Stars
* [SubmissionInstructions] -> Guidelines/Submissions
* [VotingGuidelines] -> Guidelines/Voting
----
! MERGE INFO INTO A MORE RELEVANT PAGE AND DELETE
* [AdvancedLuckManipulation]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with LuckManipulation
** [user:YoshiRulz]: This, [LuckManipulation], and [ReverseEngineering] all address RNG reversing; the content ought to be regrouped by concept rather than by audience or whatever it is now.
** [user:Samsara]: I'd imagine the concept would be [TASingGuide] here.
* [CheatFAQ]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with WelcomeToTASVideos maybe?
** [user:feos]: [Forum/Posts/524322|oh right, there's 3 FAQs now]
** [user:Samsara]: GOD I LOVE THE TASVIDEOS WIKI
* [DiscordServer]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with LiveChat?
** [user:Samsara]: Might be too many referrals to delete. Should this just be the main chat page?
** [user:YoshiRulz]: See my comment under [LiveChat] above.
** [user:Samsara]: I will reiterate that I __love__ that idea.
* [FDS]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with NES, maybe?
* [Helping]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with Contributions
* [Interviews]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with SiteHistory? Could also subpage it
* [IRCChannel]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with LiveChat or DiscordServer
* [NewcomersAnticipatedQuestions]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with FAQ or WelcomeToTASVideos, maybe?
* [WikiOrphans]
** [user:Samsara]: Merge with TODO or subpage it?
** [user:YoshiRulz]: This is done w/ a module so it doesn't need its own page, [TODO] seems ideal.
----
!! USEFUL IN THEORY, UNSURE HOW TO HANDLE
* [ForumMarkup]
** [user:Samsara]: This hasn't been updated for new site yet
* [GenericTips]
** [user:Samsara]: Not sure about this. Feels unnecessary with all the other infopages.
** [user:feos]: spread the info across dedicated pages I guess
* [MoodAvatars]
** [user:Samsara]: Useful info, but dunno if it should be a main page.
** [user:feos]: subpages for Users maybe?
** [user:Samsara]: Same as PlayerPointsAndRanks, probably works better on a general forum features page.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: These and [GamesHowTo] et al. form a user manual for the site and should be grouped together.
* [MoviesList]
** [user:Samsara]: Sure is an entirely separate list of movies. Keep I guess
** [user:feos]: rename to subpages of Movies imo
* [MovieTokens]
** [user:Samsara]: Important, but is probably more inconvenient as its own page.
** [user:feos]: rename to subpages of Movies imo
* __New(Class)Movies__
** [user:Samsara]: Subpage under NewMovies, most likely?
* [NesVideoAgent]
** [user:Samsara]: Why doesn't TVA have a page? Or is it buried somewhere?
** [user:Randomno]: [HomePages/TASVideoAgent].
** [user:Samsara]: Certified TASVideos moment.
* [Nicovideo]
** [user:Samsara]: Move into a non-English resources page?
** [user:feos]: unsure, needs some more ideas
* [PlayerPointsAndRanks]
** [user:Samsara]: Move somewhere else, not necessary as its own page.
** [user:feos]: subpages for Users maybe?
** [user:Samsara]: Not even sure if it should be subpaged, honestly. Maybe merge it with other forum things and make a new page? Maybe we could use ForumRules and shift away from the plan to make it a redirect?
* [ScreenshotList]
** [user:Samsara]: Module page. Should probably keep as-is but I dunno.
* [Screenshots]
** [user:Samsara]: Possibly move under Publisher/Encoder info?
* [TASVideosPro]
** [user:Samsara]: Pro doesn't exist anymore. Keep for archive, but it's time to retire the page :c
** [user:Randomno]: Add this and [Quiz] to AFD page?
** [user:Samsara]: Probably the best course of action. At the same time, though, an AFD page would imply we should be tracking all of our AFD jokes, and there's at least one I and BASICALLY THE ENTIRE REST OF THE SITE want absolutely nothing to do with and don't want to remember.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: Call it Legacy/Jokes and delete what's not worth keeping
* [TextFormattingRules]
** [user:Samsara]: If it's up to date with new site, it's worth keeping. Could maybe subpage it though.
** [user:feos]: I'd leave it as is
** [user:Samsara]: Literally while formatting everything to wiki markup, I realized this and [EditorGuidelines] are linked whenever any page is edited. They should probably remain entirely unchanged just due to that alone.
* [UserPages]
** [user:Samsara]: People should know they can do this, but it shouldn't be its own page.
----
! THIS SHOULD BE HOMEPAGE STUFF
* [JapaneseFantasyElements] -> CoolHandMike
* [JapaneseResources] -> CoolHandMike
** [user:YoshiRulz]: This is... part link farm, part language textbook? The former could be useful as wiki content; I grabbed one link immediately for a current project, and I can think of a couple to add.
* [LawsOfTAS] -> feos
* [Quiz] -> Masterjun
** [user:Samsara]: Or, as proposed above, subpage under a general AFD page if we decide to go that route.
----
! THESE JUST SHOULDN'T BE MAIN PAGES
* [KeepingAnOpenMind]
** [user:Samsara]: Could maybe be adapted into TASingGuide somehow.
** [user:feos]: move the info to dedicated pages? the whole thing looks very familiar so it's mostly already repeated somewhere
* [SM64TASHistory]
** [user:Samsara]: This does not need to be a main page.
** [user:Samsara]: That's not to say I don't think it should be kept. I'm wondering if maybe we could subpage it under SiteHistory, given the ways that SM64 TASing has influenced arguably the most popular speedgame of all time (iirc, 1 Star, 0 Star, and 1 key were all TAS innovations). Maybe it isn't directly related to TASVideos itself, though, and I wouldn't want to rip the credit away by saying the SM64 scene is part of OUR history.
** [user:feos]: SiteHistory subpage makes sense.
* [SMB3TASHistory]
** [user:Samsara]: Actually... This would be perfect as a [SiteHistory] subpage! Given that Morimoto's run is the reason why the site exists, the category is quite literally part of the site's history.
----
! STUFF I DON'T UNDERSTAND AND/OR WON'T TOUCH MYSELF
* [Applications]
** [user:Samsara]: No idea if any of this is current or needed
* [AwardTemplate]
** [user:Samsara]: Not even really sure what this is. Delete or subpage
** [user:Darkman425]: This feels like something meant for a summary of the annual awards. Maybe it was meant for posting in the news section or having a summary thread of the results but I can't say for certain. Either way I don't see anything like that in the forums as far as I can tell.
** [user:Samsara]: [user:arkiandruski] mentioned it was an old unfinished project. Could always just move it to his HomePage.
* [Downloads]
** [user:Samsara]: Exact same situation as Applications, unsure of the entire page in general
** [user:YoshiRulz]: The site doesn't need to recommend video players when browsers have handled that for years. Emulators have their own pages. Editors recommendations could be a couple links to alternativeto.net on whatever the "intro to TASing" page ends up being. This can go IMO.
** [user:Samsara]: Honestly, I agree. Who knew there'd be so much outdated information on a site that's been around for 20 years without a major cleanup project?
* [MassMedia]
** [user:Samsara]: I don't really understand the concept of this page. Might work under SiteHistory now that I think about it
* [Mothrayas]
** [user:Samsara]: effin yikes
** [user:Samsara]: ...should clarify that "effin yikes" is over the thought of still needing to move/reorganize/rename/etc everything on noxxa's old pages
* [XMLDataFeed]
** [user:Samsara]: Technical stuff that's probably important.
----
!! REDIRECTS, ONCE WE IMPLEMENT THEM
* [ForumRules] -> [SiteRules]
* [PlatformFramerates] -> Platforms/Framerate
** [user:Samsara]: [user:feos] thought it should be subpaged. [user:Noxxa] pointed out there are many external references to it so the original page should redirect if we move it. So right now, it's here!
----
!! FUNCTIONALLY USELESS AS-IS, COULD MAYBE REPURPOSE
* [SiteTechnology]
** [user:Samsara]: Should absolutely be a main page if it's actually written!
** [user:Randomnno]: [SiteCodingStandards] has most of the necessary info.
** [user:Samsara]: This, were it to ever be written, would likely have different information than the coding standards would.
** [user:YoshiRulz]: IMO, dev docs go on GitHub, user docs go here (though ideally they'd be checked-in too and updated by devs).
** [user:feos]: Hosting this on the repo wiki makes sense to me. Very few people will be browsing our wiki in order to figure out this stuff.
** [user:Samsara]: Once it's on the repo wiki, we can add a link in articles or on WelcomeToTASVideos or something and delete this page, maybe.
----
! COMPLETELY USELESS, DELETE

* [OtherEmulators]
** [user:Samsara]: "here's some stuff we either never supported or stopped supporting a decade ago!"
** [user:Randomno]: IMO VirtuaNES and ZSNES should be documented on the site as they have submissions.
** [user:Samsara]: I suppose. Move the info to more relevant pages and delete this.
----
!! OTHER FEEDBACK
* [user:Samsara]: Just in case anything unrelated pops up.
----
!! HANDLED ALREADY

** Subpages need to be handled soon.
