Submission Comments
You must run the game with TAS with your graphics card set to high performance, otherwise the textures of the paper characters will be broken, the settings in sync settings have nothing to do with this.
To do this for fixing, perform this steps:
  • Go to settings in windows, not BizHawk
  • Go to System -> Display -> Graphics
  • Click on the first blue box called "Need a desktop application?" (I'm not sure how it sounds more precisely in the English version.)
  • Search for EmuHawk.exe (it must be 2.11 for this game) and select it.
  • Click on the BizHawk window and select High Performance in GPU Processor Preference.

Version

  • This TAS uses the French version of the game, while the previous TAS used the Japanese version because it saved a little time compared to the English version. However, a few days after publication, a discussion about the speed of the Japanese and English versions took place, and I decided to test the other versions. It turned out that the French version had much faster dialogues during gameplay than the Japanese version, which is why French was used in this TAS.   • All dialogues should be included. Lakitu Centrer was overlooked due to an oversight, which means that each interaction with Lakitu saves 8 frames on a single text, which converts to 5 interactions with him during TAS. The French version saves an extra 40 frames compared to the Japanese version.
  • For information: There are two versions of the French version, French US and French EU. The texts in both versions are different and the text speed in both versions is not the same. French US loses a little time to English and they are almost very similar to each other, while in French EU the texts here scroll faster than in other versions, which gives 5 seconds, still a big time save.
  • Another difference, perhaps not noticeable without comparison by .bk2 files, is that the French EU saves 4 frames per title screen load, even during reset. Five loads, including the start, saved an additional 20 frames compared to the Japanese version.

Optimisations

  • At Peach's Castle, time was saved with even faster movements in the clip, 6 frames are lost here in the toad mission by RNG's layout.
  • In the first battle, time was saved by waiting due to a faster change in the RNG value, while in the second battle, time was saved by avoiding a drop without losing time.
  • In Toad's mission, time was saved on optimising movements before the second fight due to the enemies' position.
  • Time saved again with a faster clip.
  • In gloomy woods during clips, I saved time on movements in glitch mode.
  • In Twinsy Tropics, when performing the Toad Mission storage glitch, I saved time by using the slide at the loading zone.
  • I save time in Enemy rush thanks to better RNG. In Ninji and Spiny, the wait is a bit longer than in the previous TAS for RNG, but it's still faster.
If, when comparing the two TASes, you notice that there are additional inputs during the clips in the new TAS, this is mainly because the previous movements from the old TAS did not want to cooperate at these moments for this TAS.

nymx: When I first saw this submission, I was thinking..."Didn't I just do this game?". Yes, I did...and then I thought that a quick "turn-around" was going to happen again. I bring this up, because we have recently become short on staff and need to eliminate any burdening pressure on our publishers. After receiving assurances from the author that this discover is of an unexpectant nature, I decided to go and and continue judging. This is an improvement and no reason not to continue with any positive acceptance.
