Comments
Sonic Classic Heroes is a combination of the hacks Sonic 2 Heroes by flamewing and Sonic 1 and 2 by ColinC10. The hack features the ability to choose between Team Sonic or Team Chaotix to play through the entire campaign of both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. The three characters on Team Sonic have their normal moveset, however Sonic has the ability to be able to dropdash and perform a peelout. Unlike most other hacks that add the peelout, it does not require you to hold up for a specific amount of time. It instead works like the spindash, where one press of the jump button charges it up once.
There is a secret code in the game that, when inputted into the sound test, unlocks Team Super/Hyper. This allows you to start the game with all 14 emeralds and always starts the level with all three characters transformed into their super or hyper forms. Therefore this run could be considered a "new game+" of sorts.
Glitches/Tricks
There is a mechanic in the game where pressing Start + C will kill your partners and call them back to you. This allows for favorable respawns of your partners and it also has the benefit of reducing lag in certain areas, like Labyrinth 1. This can also be used with player 2 and 3's controllers, but it will only kill the player that inputted the combination.
The newer versions of Sonic Classic Heroes fix a lot of bugs and glitches regarding terrain and collision, however this doesn't stop us from having some glitches to play with. Knuckles has a glitch where if he stops gliding on a specific frame before colliding with a wall, the game will pull Knuckles up along the wall until it can put Knuckles back into the level. This is clearly intended to prevent floor clipping with Hyper Sonic or other similar tricks, but this also allows us to skip sections of a level, or even perform a zip if we are dragged into a ceiling.
Notable Moments
Scrap Brain 4
Scrap Brain Act 4 (also known as Final Zone) is the final level of the Sonic 1 half of the game. This boss is notorious for being extremely slow, as you can normally only get one hit in everytime he comes up from the floor. However, there is a window of time where if you hit the boss as soon as possible when he starts coming up, his invulnerability frames run out before he can go offscreen, which opens up a small amount of time where you can hit the boss a second time. Using Hyper Tails' flickies, we can manipulate their position and speed to be able to pull this off repeatedly and kill the boss in half of the time it would normally take.
Sky Chase
Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are going nuts during this autoscroller cutscene! They go so nuts that Knuckles appears detached from Tails as he is being carried, and they even stop the timer in the middle of the level. This made retiming the level difficult, but it was left in for the lolz. The score, which is maxxed out at 9999990, also gets overflowed back to 8034110 somehow.
