If using WSL2 or another no-desktop distro, you need to install a desktop (temporarily) or the whole installer will fail. I recommend 'sudo apt install --no-install-recommends xfce4' which is only 86.9 MB. You can always remove it later with sudo apt remove xfce4

Download the Bzzzt GOG version 1.325F-240802 .sh installer file (MD5 a710fddc69b0dbede0f65a70368c3f32)
Open a terminal to where you downloaded the script and run chmod 777 ./bz*sh
Then, sudo ./bz*sh
Agree to the license. Remember the install directory for later. I picked /opt/GOG Games/Bzzzt
It should say (either in terminal or GUI window) that setup was successful.

Like the author said, open the game outside of libTAS first: path/to/GOG Games/Bzzzt/game/Bzzzt.x86_64
Use the keyboard and Enter to select Options. Press Left to set resolution to 1152x720. Use Enter again to uncheck Full Screen. Go Back, then Exit, Yes to confirm.
libTAS v1.4.8 will crash if it can't access the game folder and its contents, so you may need to run, for example, sudo chmod -R 777 /opt

In libTAS, the path to the game is the same as you used to open the game once before. The command -force-gfx-direct will be added automatically.
Ignore the hash mismatch error, which always pops up even if the hash is correct for this game, as well as warnings to enable clock_gettime, which will break sync.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt!

Bzzzt in 16:25.93

IMPORTANT: To sync this movie, open the game outside of libTAS and change the resolution to 1152x720. Also uncheck Full Screen so the run can start normally. The game used is the GOG version (DRM-free). For encoders, I know this isn't practical, but it might be okay to just stretch the AR to 16:9, as there isn't much cut out.

Run objectives

  • Deathless
  • Aims for fastest in-game time
  • Programing errors abused
  • Uses hardest difficulty (Insane Mode. Only hardens repeats).

Comments

  • This game is about a robot made by a professor that goes through 52 levels while obtaining several upgrades on the way such as double jump or dash. The main character, ZX, doesn't shoot anything, and all it does is dodging obstacles to reach the end point, seems like inspired by Celeste in a way.
  • For technicalities, ZX's jump is slower than walking which priorities staying on the ground as much possible. That until it obtains dash upgrades, as now dashing is the most important action, thus jumping will always be necessary to optimize dash lines.
  • You can dash as many times as possible, even mid air. Most of the game's actions are buffered, meaning you can have the earliest input at any point, so chaining dashes is not a hard task, however, there is a cool down between each dash. A cool tech is to buffer jump and dash buttons to nullify this cool down. This trick is very useful in many places, especially on the ground.
  • The only thing that annoyed me a lot is how frequent it is to not skip some cycles! You see, there are some obstacles that are in cycles (similar to frame rule, bus analogy), meaning you need to be fast enough to not wait for a full cycle to finish. Funnily enough, with how this game was designed, I faced many instances where, even if I'm so fast, I simply can't save a cycle. This doesn't mean I'm slow, but it just feels a bit bad to wait, that's not TASy :D
  • There are some small programing errors abused, like extending a jump in some rare cases to get to an area early, or gain more double jumps from ladders. These helped making the TAS look better :)
  • Other than that, we just go TAS through all available levels.
