Oopi's Quest is a 2022 NES homebrew game that follows Oopi the alien who has crash landed on an unknown planet. To escape, he needs to collect all the nuts to be able to fix his ship. This TAS navigates all 30 levels, picking up all the nuts Oopi needs and escaping the planet in just over 5 minutes.

In terms of optimisation, there's not a whole lot to go at. Most of the levels have entirely predetermined routes that can be followed and a few present opportunities for multiple routes. For example, if multiple carts in close proximity to each other need moving into slots then it might be faster to do something a bit different than the obvious route. In these cases, I tried all the possible routes I could see.
One of the first things I noticed when playing the game was the rewind ability which allows you to undo moves one at a time and I was hoping that there could be something a little broken with this ability, maybe something that could rewind Oopi's movements without losing progress. But all my hopes were quickly dampened when I went to make the TAS of the game. All of Oopi's movements are followed by lag frames while he moves onto the next cell and you obviously can't do anything during this time. Testing multiple inputs on the same frame was the logical next step but this didn't produce any results of any kind. In the end, this run was just trying to identify the best routes through with the limited moveset Oopi has and I'm pretty happy with what I've finished with.
